Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2014 – May Week 5

Recommended Posts

The top two songs exchanged place from last week, with Junggigo’s “Want You” moving up a spot to No. 1 and EXO-K’s “Overdose” dropping to second.  It was another close battle between these two songs as they were separated only by nine points this week. Junggigo was able to win it this week as “Want You” has stronger showings on all independent charts, despite “Overdose” sweeping the music shows for the second week in a row.

Junggigo becomes the first artist to have two No. 1 songs on our chart in 2014.  His duet “Some” with Sistar’s Soyu spent four weeks on top in February and March.  “Want You” is his first solo No. 1 song.  Congratulations to Junggigo.

K-Pop promotions are back at full swing as there are many changes in the top 10 this week.  The highest one is at No. 3 where we find Wheesung’s “Night And Day.” This song is from his mini-album “The Best Man,” which is his first album since returning from his military enlistment. “Night And Day” is an electronic guitar filled R&B song featuring Wheesung’s soulful vocals. The lyrics are about a man who wants to be there night and day with the woman he loves. This week it moves up 12 spots to No. 3.

The second new song in the top five belongs to IU, as her remake of Cho Duk Bae’s “My Old Story” moves up 14 spots to No. 5 this week. This song is the title track of IU’s special remake album “Flower Bookmark.” The original song was released in 1986. IU’s version features her refreshing sweet vocals that blend well with the romantic feeling of the song.

Secret’s leader Hyosung has her first solo top 10 hit with “Good-night Kiss,” moving up 14 spots to No. 6. It is the title track from her first single album “Top Secret. It features a trap music sound and a catchy chorus.

Moving up 16 spots to No. 7 is Seo In Guk’s “Bomtanaba.” Seo In Guk has become a rising star in dramas and movies but he still finds time to return to his roots as a singer. “Bomtanaba” features acoustic guitar and refreshing bass sounds. The cute lyrics compares the thrill of being in love to the simulating effect of caffeine. It is a song tailor made for spring.

Ballad trio 4men scores their latest top 10 hit with “Erase,” moving up 16 spots to No. 8. “Erase” is one of the three title songs from 4men’s fifth full length album “1998.” This is a retro style R&B ballad about unforgettable love. 4men’s strong vocals leave a lasting impression to this song.

Moving up nine spots to No. 9 is G.NA’s latest hit “G.NA’s Secret” (Pretty Lingerie) This is the fifth song by Double Sidekick in the top 10 this week. It has an upbeat piano and brass sound. The lyrics describe how a woman feels when she is in love and wants to appear beautiful to her boyfriend.
