Jun. K Talks About Solo Album, "Love & Hate" for "Singles"

2PM member Jun. K recently gave a solo interview and pictorial with "Singles" magazine that was released on May 21. The talented songwriter and vocalist of 2PM also had the chance to discuss his first solo album.

Jun. K’s first solo album, “Love & Hate” recently rose to the number one spot on the Oricon chart. Jun. K not only composed and wrote the songs himself, but he was also in charge of the album’s production. Like any true artist, Jun. K was in charge of coming up with the music video concept and directing all elements of his stage performances.

In the interview, he said, “This album is a great and meaningful opportunity for me. It’s been about 12 years since I first starting studying and composing music. Now I feel the time is right for me to show some of that. For a long time, I collected ideas for songs on a notebook and made songs from different sections. Unfortunately, I was only able to pursue album activities in Japan…but I had fun despite struggling while making the songs. Also, I dislike overlapping concepts or images with someone else. I made these songs with the intent to show music I can do well and music that contains my personality. The tracks on this album contain songs from hip-hop, R&B and jazz genres.”

About promoting a solo album apart from 2PM, he said, “I wanted to show people what I could do. To be honest, people only know me as a part of 2PM, not as Jun. K. I felt that I never had the chance to show what I could really do. Although I’m disappointed I’ve only been able to promote my solo album in Japan, I was determined to show everyone who Jun. K was.”
