Newsie
Sibling duo Akdong Musician (AKMU) is the big story on our chart this week as their song “200%” jumped all the way from No. 17 to No. 1. In addition to that, their other title tracks are at #8 and #17 this week, giving them three songs in the top 20. Winner of K-Pop Star Season 2, AKMU was subsequently signed by YG Entertainment. Last year, the duo had songs “I Love You” and “Bean Bing Soo” in the top 20, and this is the first time they hit the top 10 and immediately having a chart topper. AKMU’s folk pop style provides a fresh stream to K-Pop and is definitely a group to watch out. Congratulations to them. “200%” is the title track of AKMU's debut album “Play.” Written by male member Lee Chan Hyuk, the song is about those who have ever had a crush on someone but couldn't muster up the courage to tell them. The upbeat and rhythmic folk pop melody and the witty rap highlights the song. “200%” is only five points below a perfect score this week and will be the favorite to repeat as No. 1 next week. Carrying on YG's successful strategy of multiple title tracks from a full length album, there were three title songs from AKMU’s album “Play.” The second title track “Give Love” also makes it to the top 10 moving up 11 spots to No. 8. “Give Love” is inspired by the phrase written on a love-heart that is used on a smart phone game. The song shows AKMU’s creativity and unique ideas. Their third title track "Melted" is at No. 17 this week. Last week's No. 1 song "Mr. Chu" by A Pink drops one spot to No. 2 this week. Rounding out the top three is Mad Clown's collaboration with Hyorin, "Without You," moving up four spots from No. 7 last week. Besides AKMU, there is one other new song in the top 10. Moving up 18 spots to No. 5 is a collaboration between IU and new male quartet HIGH4. Their song “Spring, Love Or Cherry Blossom” is tailor made for the spring season. IU wrote the lyrics herself. The real instrument sounds, funky rhythms and addictive melodies of the song makes listener feeling the crisp refreshing taste of spring.
