Monday Kiz star Lee Jin Sung has begun his military service. The singer posed for pictures in front of an army base in Uijeongbu, a city to the north of Seoul, where he will be begin basic training.

It was an emotional day for Lee Jin Sung, who was accompanied to the training camp by the mother of deceased former member Kim Min Su, who died in 2008. Kim Min Su’s mother even prepared a special meal for Lee Jin Sung before seeing him off at the gates.

Lee Jin Sung and Kim Min Su were the founding members of Monday Kiz, who began as a duo, making their debut with the album “Bye Bye Bye” in 2005. Following Kim Min Su’s death in 2008, the group went on hiatus, before reforming as a trio in 2010 with new members Han Seung Hee and Lim Han Byeul

About 50 fans gathered at the gate to catch a glance of Lee Jin Sung, who paused to say, “I will do my best as a Korean man in the military.” Many of the fans were moved to tears by Kim Min Su’s mother’s heartwarming gesture.

Monday Kiz will now continue as a duo until Lee Jin Sung has completed his two-year mandatory military duty, after which time he has vowed to rejoin the group.
