The 7 Best K-Drama Couples of 2013-2014

Recommended Posts

No matter the genre of the drama, romance is often, if not always, the most important component of the storyline. Accordingly, in the romance at the center of the drama, there must be great chemistry between the two main characters.

For the past two years, with great dramas we have seen great couples and love stories, through which we’ve been able to vicariously fulfill our grand and unfortunately unrealistic desires: a love story that transcends worlds and planets, one that transcends the gap between the rich and the poor, one that takes us back in time.

So which are the greatest on-screen couples of 2013-2014? Through the research panel Tillion, 10,853 netizens voted on their favorites. Think you can guess what they are? Go on to page 2 to start at number seven!

i can hear your voice

7. SBSI Can Hear Your Voice

Lee Jong Suk (Park Soo Ha) and Lee Bo Young (Jang Hye Sung)

5.3% (571 votes)

It was a concern before the beginning of the drama if this couple would have good chemistry, as they are ten years apart. But with each episode, their chemistry became stronger and stronger and viewers’ love for the couple grew more and more.

Lee Bo Young played the selfish government lawyer Hye Sung, and Lee Jong Suk played Soo Ha, a high school student with the power to read other minds. It was the little things, Lee Jong Suk using his powers to get a seat for Lee Bo Young on the bus, him walking Lee Bo Young home at night, and their little antics living together, that made them a fun couple to watch.

empress ki

6. MBCEmpress Ki

Ji Chang Wook (Emperor Ta Hwan) and Ha Ji Won (Empress Ki)

5.9% (644 votes)

Ha Ji Won as Ki Seung Nyang and Ji Chang Wook as Ta Hwan. The two actors, nine years apart, also show great chemistry, even while portraying a strained relationship.

Ha Ji Won strategically marries Ji Chang Wook to take revenge on the family that killed her parents, but after time, with Ji Chang Wook’s unconditional love, Ha Ji Won starts to give him her heart.

master's sun

5. SBS “Master’s Sun

So Ji Sub (Joo Joong Won) and Gong Hyo Jin (Tae Gong Shil)

6.0% (648 votes)

He is cursed by his first love, and she sees the spirits of the dead. So Ji Sub’s character, the CEO of a big company, is intrigued by Gong Hyo Jin’s quirky charisma and innocence, while she by his ability to make ghosts disappear for her. While he tries to push her away, and tries to pretend that he doesn’t like her, they are inexorably drawn to each other.

the heirs

4. SBS “The Heirs

Kim Woo Bin (Choi Young Do) and Park Shin Hye (Cha Eun Sang)

6.3% (681 votes)

A couple that had just as many fans as the main couple of the drama. Kim Woo Bin, the classic rich bad boy, approaches Park Shin Hye to bully her, but ends up falling in love instead. A bully to others, but a kind and warm heart to her, Kim Woo Bin was often her knight in shining armor, despite the fact that she had eyes only for another.

reply 1994

3. tvNReply 1994

Jung Woo (Sseuraegi (‘Trash’)) and Go Ara (Sung Na Jung)

10.3% (1117 votes)

The couple most likely to be living next door, Jung Woo and Go Ara. This couple was especially loved by the youth of that era, now in their 30s and 40s. Particularly fun to watch was the couple’s progress from a sibling-like relationship to a loving couple.

the heirs

2. SBS “The Heirs”

Lee Min Ho (Kim Tan) and Park Shin Hye (Cha Eun Sang)

12.0% (1307 votes)

The heir to the country’s largest company, and the daughter of that household’s maid, Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye were the main characters of this modern Cinderella story.

Throwing away his status without a care for love, this couple quickly became the fantasy of women all over Korea.

man from the stars

1. SBS “Man from the Stars

Kim Soo Hyun (Do Min Joon) and Jun Ji Hyun (Chun Song Yi)

32.4% (3521 votes)

At the top of the list is the 400-year-old alien Kim Soo Hyun and top celebrity Jun Ji Hyun. No doubt because of the extreme age gap that they’ve overcome. In reality, the couple is just seven years apart, Kim Soo Hyun born in ’88 and Jun Ji Hyun in ’81.

The combination in this drama of the seemingly apathetic but deeply caring Professor Do and the lively and blunt Chun Song Yi was most definitely a match made in heaven and a delight to watch.

Soompiers, what say you? Do you agree? Are there any couples that you think should have been on this list?

I think folks must love delusions, Young Do and Eun Sang were not a couple. I know kdramas are great to watch, but the fans are easily deluded by what they choose to see rather than what is presented. Even, Young Do was too uninform to realize he was in love with someone else's girlfriend.
