Newsie
Even though it cannot repeat the perfect score of last week, the duet “Some” between Soyu and Junggigo is No. 1 for the third straight week. This song just keeps piling up music show wins. Even before very strong competitions, this week “Some” still wins on KBS Music Bank. Odds don’t favor this song to be No. 1 again next week since we have a trio of major artists coming back and eyeing the top spot (more on that below). But “Some” has been incredibly durable in popularity and may surprise again next week. We have five new songs in the top 10 this week. Just below “Some” is our highest new song. Moving up 17 spots to No. 2 is Sunmi’s new hit “Full Moon.” Last year, Sunmi successfully came back as a solo artist with the chart topping hit “24 Hours.” Now she has released her first mini-album “Full Moon.” The title track of the same name is written by the hottest hit maker in Korea, Brave Brothers. It is the first collaboration between Brave Brothers and JYP artists. “Full Moon” has luscious brass and guitar sound combining with drum beats. The lyrics compare love to the full moon. Sunmi continues her famous bare feet dance on this song. The second new song in the top five is coming from R&B duo Vibe. They moved up 25 big spots to No. 5 with “Hae Won Dae” featuring Davichi’s Kang Minkyung. This is the title song from Vibe’s sixth album “Ritardando.” It is Vibe’s trademark emotional sad ballad telling a heartbreaking love story in Hae Won Dae, a place that lovers often visits in Korea. Last year’s top rookie female group is back in the top 10 as Ladies’ Code scores their second top 10 hit with “So Wonderful,” moving up seven spots to No. 7. This song has funky upbeat sound. Ladies’ Code members show their cute, chic and sexy sides in the song. Up 18 spots to No. 8 is Park Ji Yoon’s “Beep.” Just like Sunmi, Park Ji Yoon is another female soloist who made a strong come back last year. She has recently released a single album “Inner Space.” The title song “Beep” is another retro style dance hit like her “Mr. Lee” last year. It has a simple but catchy tune. The lyrics describe how people can sense they are about to fall in love or break up. It seems like everything Brave Brothers touch will turn into gold these days, or turn into top 10 hits in our chart! The last new song in the top 10 is also written by Brave Brothers, who has three hits in the top 10 this week: Sunmi’s “Full Moon,” AOA’s “Miniskirt,” and moving up 23 spots to score their first ever top 10 hit is hip-hop group BTOB’s “Beep Beep.” This song has an exciting beat, funny lyrics, and impressive rap that make you want to dance with BTOB. As mentioned at the beginning of our article, we have three major artists coming back. They are not in the top 10 yet this week but don’t be surprised if they occupy the top three spots next week. That includes Girls’ Generation’s “Mr. Mr.” (No. 16), CNBlue’s “Can’t Stop” (No. 22), and the double title songs of 2NE1: “Come Back Home” (No. 26) and “Only You” (No. 27). So far Girls’ Generation is ranked higher but it may change next week. Along with our three week champion “Some”, it will be an interesting four way battle for the top spot next week, our first exciting competition of 2014. Who do you think will win next week?
