Hi all. Does anyone know the name of the classical music piece they are using? It's based on a classical piece but they have re-arranged it a little. It is very familiar but I cannot remember the name. You can hear it clearly here at 1:03:20. http://www.viki.com/videos/1073236v-assembly-episode-4

Thanks! :)

If it is the classical one, it is Mozart,  Symphony No. 40 in G minor.

Perfect! Thank you sooo much!

The women have their own rivalry on the show. I like them both.

@larus  I love they rivalry and waiting to see how IK dish it back to her, assembly woman would rather keep her pride then accept IK walking over her but it's going to happen that IK will beat her at her childish games because she knows how to bend and when to bend because she see a bigger picture so she will laugh last..

Has anyone gone on a trip with a man where the man drives and the woman navigates? Man says he knows where he is going does not listen to the woman even when the woman offers to re-direct when he gets lost such as stopping at the gas station to ask for directions? That was before GPS was invented, of course. Now thanks to GPS they have become the man’s best driving companion especially since most GPS have female voices LOL. If anyone can relate to this scenario does it seem that is where IK and SP are in now? He asks, “help me show me the way” but he keeps ignoring her directions to swerves to the opposite road. He gets lost and asks again show me the way. IK even goes to bat for SP to ask BDH to have mercy and not use JPS only to be told that the reason she can’t make it beyond being an aide is because she cannot abandon her morals nor her compassionate nature. Both BDH and PSJ used JSP to fight each other since in their minds he was the easiest to discard. Now I hope JSP will at least discuss his plans with IK. JSP believes that there was honor in giving someone’s word but he will learn that a politicians’ definition of honor are what benefits him. Betrayal can be a good teacher but will JSP learn and will he now listen to IK?

As for GH, what are his plans? Just invent stories to destroy JSP? It is too sad that he decides to waste his life on a revenge plot that is not justified, he cannot bring his father back.

I want to see what JSP will do now that he is on the hit list.

@zenya22\,  Hi,  Great analogy that's just what it is IK is navigating JSP,  She did have a point give in for now until he really wants to put something in effect and he will have bargain with..

GW revenge plot will never come to bloom because IK is onto him and so will the head secretary.. I'm just wondering how long can he hold out without his identity being discovered.. What GW fail to realize is the house of the assembly wasn't cut out for his dad that's the reason he ask JSP to do it because he's young and healthy enough to go the duration of the old coots and could be of help for the welders his dad wouldn't have lasted one term..

Yes IK has a point, there is always a natural pecking order in this world we live in. But sometimes experience can be harsh teacher. Sadly, it seems JSP still thinks he is in trenches of the welder's 3 year strike. He still wears his protest clothes. BDH had tried to school him in the art of compromise, the oil of the political machine and recommended to him the best teacher, his aide, In Kyung. She is better teacher than BDH because she still has a conscience and compassion.

I can't wait to see GW's emotional meltdown when he realizes that his "revenge" was all in his mind and caused by himself.

I rewatched the episodes inorder to understand who the politicians were and the political parties they belonged to and represent and search for the meaning of words that seemed to be of significance such as

Yeouido: from Wiki: “Yeouido (Yoi Island or Yeoui Island) is a large island in the Han River in Seoul, South Korea. It is Seoul's main business and investment banking district. Its 8.4 square kilometers are home to some 30,988 people.[1] The island is located in the Yeongdeungpo-gu district of Seoul, and largely corresponds to the precinct of Yeouido-dong. The island contains the National Assembly Building, where the National Assembly of South Korea meets, Korea Financial Investment Association. Yeouido is also called Korea's Wall Street and houses many broadcasting stations, including KBS and MBC.”

The Political Parties

1.Gookmin (People’s) Party

Party Leader is the General Secretary: Baek Do Hyun

The party is divided in 2 factions the Pro BH faction led by BDH and the Anti Bh led by Park Choo Sub

2. Schwae (Socialist) Party and Cheon Nu Sui was the one from that party who first recruited the charman of the welders to become a candidate for assembly man for Gyeongjae City

3. Democratic Party and the person we see most to represent th pary is Jo Woon Gyo who is the Party Floor Vice Leader

I am not sure if I got all the parties right, please correct me if I am wrong.

It seems that Baek Do Hyun and Jo Woon Gyo are schoolmates of In Kyung. Both seem to be close friends and advisors of hers. It is also looking like the main wheeler and dealers are the two men of the s the Gookmin party: BDH and PCS. BDH said “a politician is someone who thinks of the nexr generation and a political hacker is someone who only thinks of the next election. I am a political hacker after all.” It was an apt description of himself. He is not even apologetic about it. It was a way of explaining himself to IK when the ditched her and nominated JPS instead. It all started when the President wanted Ko Yang Ho to be nominated for the Assemblyman representing Gyeonjae city and Baek Dae Hyun knew that his position as party leader will be in jeopardy, so he threatened, wheeled and dealt to get Ko Yang Ho off the candidate list and found himself one who in not a threat and whom he can easily manipulate in the welder JPS. But JPS surprises and stumps him all the time. So now BDH wants to make JPS the sacrifice or the payment for his wheeling and dealing. I want to see IK in action. In the preview she looks very angry.

Hello all :)

My random thots and highlights for me thus far...
Loving this drama more and more...so intriguing and yet just drives me nuts with how intriguing and sleazy politics is and can be!

Ep 2
How sad for a dad JSP to hear from own daughter's mouth that he's unable to make mom happy? But the child is so right. It's been 4 years since he has been engrossed in fighting for his ideal, and for his peers. But neglecting wife and daughter totally. Why hang on, JSP-ssi? Listen to your daughter and let go of mom.

Those bxxtards who sent the peeps to destroy the tents. They call themselves politicians i.e. the people's servers? Geez.

CIK tells JSP that politics is no joke. But why do I feel like politicians are making politics into a very big joke? LOL. The majority of them are, IMO.

Interesting advice from BDH to JSP on Life vs Politics:

  • "There's no clear answer. There's just choice. Trying to turn that choice into right answers, that's what life and politics are about. Time to make your choice."

Wow! this script is good! Scary world of politics but so true. Sadly though, we often see 'choices' made by politicians are for their own political benefit first and foremost, and then for their party/faction. Last in line of consideration is the people.

BDH to IK on why he chose JSP over her to be nominee:

  • "I realize I'm not a politician but a political hack".

In fact, I think all politicians are political hacks. They all worry about their 2nd term and so on and so forth. And why not? Living on the people's benefits and money but without any need for accountability. What better job is there in the world?

OMO! politics and perception, those JSP photo ops are such reality - with school kids, with wet market folks, with common folks -  are so hilarious but so true. LOL.

BDS character. What kind of dad is he? Kept on relinquishing his parental rights saying it's for his son KGH's sake. But that actually hurts the son more. And his impetuous ideal-seeking temperament, climbing the shipbuilding crane when he's weak and a cripple, and causing the blame and misunderstanding on JSP, geez!

So, looks like CIK will eventually be the mediator between KGH's misunderstanding of JSP. Because she knows more than either of them what had happened.

Love love love the classical music they play in the drama. JJang! And the performances of the cast, esp. the main 6 - CIK/SYA, JSP/JJY, KGH/OTY, HCM/KSH, BDH/JHS and PCS/PYG - DAEBAK!

Ep 3

Listen to the terms they use...political terrorism? political murder? LOL.
Interesting how BDH would look up to Bismarck aka The Iron Chancellor, an early era european politician. I guess all politicians of similar wings examine each other's achievement and adopt some of the moves. Will we see 'The Iron Lady' being mentioned later?

BDH to CIK

  • "Bismarck once said: Politics is the art of the possible. There's nothing impossible in politics".

Though true, 'nothing is impossible' applies not just to the world of politics.

BDH is a double-headed snake, sneaky fox who only chose JSP cos he thought he could kick him to the curbside in a year when he himself runs for office in the very same district/city. But boy, BDH will be so surprised and disappointed cos JSP will turn out into a fine and strong politician, with tutelage by none other than CIK. I have a feeling JSP will wise up soon enough with the help of CIK. And I think CIK herself will prob end up being an assemblywoman like she aspired to, and prob be talking down to HCM then. (I hope!)

This scene was pretty moving...

  • JSP tp CIK "Anywhere people lives, it's hell".
  • And CIK replies: "Politics was made so that people's power, not God, can save that hellish place."

But I disagree with CIK. It's true that ideal-driven politician, such as CIK and JSP would be, are few and far between. Most of them may get into politics to achieve ideals and will say they want to do so for the 'people's good'. But often, we see them succumbing to the powers and greed that have been there, the powers and greed that corrupt as well. We see for now, JSP has succumbed to BSH's power and experience in wheeling and dealing. While CIK who's a consultant supposedly well-versed in politics, but still have to kow-tow to the powers that are - like BDH and HCM.

What a way for JSP to show up for his first plenary session. Awesome and so full of oomph!

Love the ending...misguided or misunderstood KGH wanting his revenge for dead dad? Wait till he hears the voicemail dad left for JSP before he climbed up the crane and fell to his death, not by suicide, but by accident due to weakness and his handicap leg.

Ep 5

I love the script. It's awesome!

Another interesting convo:

  • JSP to BDH "Is a politician not allowed to speak his conviction?"
  • BDH replied "A politician's word must hold one more thing besides conviction. A margin left for compromise.".
  • JSP "That's just smooth talk. what you're saying is to leave a hole to back out. That's cowardly."
  • BDH "The essence of politics is compromise. There's no correct answer in politics."
  • JSP "There may be no correct answers. But I am certain what you're asking me to do, it's an incorrect answer."

Ep 6

That leak of list D...did CIK do that? Is she trying to wake up JSP's senses of being a slave to BDH cos of seeking a nomination for next term? So, JSP is in effect assimilating BDH as a political hack?

Love this drama...not a dull moment yet. The performances of the main 6, esp CIK, JSP and BDH are awesome! Dying for KGH's bubble of hatred and misunderstanding to burst and splash right back on his face. I hope he wakes up soon and be an ally to JSP instead.

Can't wait for more to unfold.

@ jadecloud, thank you for the short episode recaps. Yes, I have to pay attention to the dialogue because that is where the meat of the story is. BDH is a snake alright. As a leader of the party he even assigns his subordinates to lead the meetings he does not want to attend if he thinks it will put him at a disadvantage. I agree, that it could have been CIK who leaked the richard simmons list to shake JSP.  ahhhhhh can't wait

Been binge-watching this drama until it occupied my rest time. Thanks @zenya22 for your take and explanation regarding the plot. I've been enlightened for sure. It's never easy for me to follow any political drama despite seeing several that highlighted the genre (The Chaser, Daemul, Yawang) maybe that's because I was in just for the drama.

And I just love that they don't make JSP to be outright hero; he has his own flaws and he clearly struggles to understand the gist of how politicians work, just like common man might feel if they suddenly assigned to be the representative at assembly.

There's only thing that I question, what's the aim of the drama? Are they trying to portray JSP's transformation into competent politician (his struggle, his journey)? or will it full of twist and highlight KGW gets back at the 'murderer' of his dad? Taecyeon won't be full-blossoming baddie, will he?:tears: I've been spoon-fed about the storyline from the other dramas (they are pretty obvious and blatant about the storyline; take Daemul for example, it will show GHJ's struggle and attempt to be the first female president) whereas I can't completely read what this drama aims to show to the viewer.

Anyway it's intriguing and compelling to see the dynamic of JSP's team. I don't know if all of them have the sincerest motive to help him succeed; even CIK (who's the closest to him) seems has her own doubt on assisting JSP, or just do it half-heartedly. Another compelling factor is CIK-JSP's dynamic, yeah god forbid myself to hope there's a tint of romance between them, but I just.can't.help.it! This is the second time that I expect to see the almost-platonic-but-there-is-more relationship after JJH and SEK's unexpectedly relationship in Scandal: A Shocking and Wrongful Incident. I have to remind myself to not put any expectation to any drama though since it has tendency to disappoint when the viewers start to get excited.

finally got around to watching 5 and 6 ~ was kind of feeling a little annoyed watching IK. it seems like everyone underestimates JSP and all want to use him as puppet for their own devices including IK. as he asked, is he a robot? but no one is asking JSP what he is actually after and don't think even IK understands his motivations really well -- he just wants to make laws that will prevent future Dal Soos, that is what his heart wants and sadly no one gets that.. so while it was kind of embarrassing to watch JSP become a slave and learn the ins and outs of politics the hard way, you still get the sense that he is a loose cannon who is operating by his own logic and actually cannot be controlled at all... so it will be interesting to see what happens with the hit list... the fight with the anti-BH factions guy was hilariously funny with mentions of avatar and failed drivers license, but it showed JSP has a flair with language and can hold his own once he learns the rules..

wonder what is the deal with IK, assembly woman Hong and BDH -- he is married and yet these two women seem to be constantly wanting to please him. he has some strings but he is not all powerful. so what is the deal? it almost feels like a triangle with these three..

it was bit of a relief to see JSP reach out to his wife however awkward since it lessens the chance for some romance with IK (so don't want to go down that route); somehow, it was very touching that she donated money even though she is not earning much. so it seems a bigger deal that she still believed in him enough to send some even though she is filled with doubts to actually pursue a relationship with him again..

so will JSP' teenage daughter develop a crush on KGH? wonder if she will dig up info on him to learn more about her crush and in the process learn about his connection to Dal Soo.. or maybe it will be secretary Oh who first recognizes him -- she already seems to find him familiar... it was interesting that we seem to have a parallel with KGH, just like JSP with IK, he has the secretary who is supporting him in the back though he does not seem to realize it...

@zenya22 I too loved your analogy of the GPS and thank you so much for doing the research and sharing with us about the political parties.

@larus, I too like both Song Yoon-A and Kim Seo-Young here.

@jadecloud, thank you for brief recap of the episodes.

When I first started watching this drama I thought it would be like a Kdrama version of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." Then we saw JSP fall flat on his face, and turn around and become what seemed like BDH's puppy, and I thought to myself - maybe the Kdrama version of "The Candidate" or "The Seduction of Joe Tynan" instead.

Then I went back in my head, and thought about this scriptwriter, and his drama "President" and thought, he just wants to show us the political process, and how corrupt it is on one hand, and the fact that in politics there are no gains without paying the price for them.

The truth is regardless if IK fully understand him, JSP needs her badly (even if he is not aware of it."

He hired one of the best and yet he is not taking advantage of her knowledge and brains.

I expect in the next episodes he will be framed as someone who has taken a bribe (that watch, which again, he did not bother to tell IK about it.)

@Lmangla, I agree with you that he is a loose cannon. He has been unemployed fighting a lost cause for several years - a fight that took its toll on his family life. He was shamed by many of his co-workers who perceived him as being a traitor to them and the cause. He is eager to show he can make a real difference in the life of the working people, but he has no understanding of politics and the ropes in the National Assembly.  He was so thrilled by his short fame after his initial speech and all the support he got from the public, until he realized that he has no ally in the Assembly and he cannot accomplish anything without an ally. In fact, he has manage to alienate most assemblymen, in the short time he has been there.

@averena, after reading your post I was wondering to myself, what is the purpose of the drama. Is it just to show us the life in the National Assembly and how politics work, or is there more. I noticed that both Hancinema, KoreanDrama, and AsianWiki state under the plot:

"With the help of his aid Choi In Kyung, Jin Sang Pil is able to become a honorable national assembly member."

I was actually relieved to see that.

While I do not welcome romance between JSP and CIG, for the reasons stated earlier, I think it will be cute to see KGH with romance, as long as it does not take front seat to the political story and our leads (and probably will help the ratings too.)

In a way both JSP and KGH are sort of on their maiden journeys into politics. It will be interesting to see what each one of them does with it.

@valsava      I though CIG was too easy on KGH when she caught him with the camera, but I do give her credit for being smart, so I think she will keep an eye on him.

@irilight I guess we just ought to bear with the story... It's somewhat difficult to predict or foresee about this drama's storyline. I also wondering if they're going to make the 'grey' characters or downright black and white. Especially KGH. I don't mind if they serve us with platonic relationship between JSP and CIK (hey platonic relationship filled with respect is equally beautiful with romance!;) and this drama isn't made for romance either, but I slightly want to see deeper professional relationship between them. As up until now, CIK has only witnessed things that made her doubt JSP's ability and credibility. Like in every episodes, (to me) it feels as if she's always been on the verge of giving up on JSP LOL well from JSP's point of view, it's also hard for him because he has to play by the rules to contribute something and prove himself. Not to mention, he has to face with savvy and educated politician while he was only a welder.

DH -- he is married and yet these two women seem to be constantly wanting to please him. he has some strings but he is not all powerful. so what is the deal? it almost feels like a triangle with these three..

Maybe the ladies aim for the nomination? or maybe there's another story between BDH and CIK? They seem really really close as hoobae-sunbae (it's not strange though) but at one point, she flashed his graduation photo. And in order to achieve the coveted nomination from the 'mighty' secretary general, they have to showcase their loyalty. This what caught on my eyes too! Glad you pointed that out. Why do I always think that PCS has more influence than BDH?

Waiting for the subs but so much happened in this episode, BDH does not look good in this episode and am just wondering if he got entangled in the web he wove. I am liking that GW looks like he changed, the way he blocked the men who tried to touch IK and drag JSP. Now his police training and his martial arts will come in handy. That really surprised me but also made me happy that maybe he is changing his mind about JSP? Now I think IK and JSP are starting to gel as political partners. She does the wheeling and dealing to get JSP some help and JSP does what he does best fighting in the trenches for what he thinks is good for his constituents. It seems that IK has abandoned BDH. I don't know what she said but BDH looked shocked as if he could not believe what he was hearing. Anyway be back after the subs. This is getting good.
