Based on the smash hit novel of Kawamura Genki, “If a Cat disappears from the world” was made into a movie and will be released in 2016. We will share the synopsis, cast and related information.

The inspirational film “If a Cat disappears from the world” is expected to be a hot movie topic in Japan.

From a novel serialized in Line to a movie adaptation.

The novel “If a Cat disappears from the world” which was first serialized at Line and was later released as a book that reached a cumulative number of copies, was made into a movie that will be released to the public in 2016.

Kawamura who was more popularly known as a film producer, wrote a novel for the first time and this was “If a Cat disappears from the world”

“I still want to live!” The synopsis of “If a Cat disappears from the world”

A 30 year old postman was diagnosed with “brain tumor” and was told that he has a short life expectancy. One day, a devil who looks like himself, suddenly appears and offers him a deal to extend his life.

By erasing something from this world, he can extend his life by one day.

It is a human drama that depicts his daily life, wanting to live while confirming ties with his former lover, friend and family.

Popular cast and staff gathered

Original movie producer, Kawamura Genki

Producer of such movies as “Train Man”, “Confessions” and “Parasyte”, in 2011 he was awarded the “Fujimoto Award” which is given to outstanding filmmakers, making him the youngest awardee. In 2012 he wrote the novel “If a cat from the world disappears,” which became a bestseller and was nominated for the bookstore’s Grand Prix.

Up-coming director Nagai Satoshi

He directed the “suntory Boss zero” and “Calorie Mate” commercials and has won numerous advertising awards both locally and internationally. In 2014, he made his feature film directorial debut with “Judge!”.

Takeru Sato plays the dual role of the hero and the devil

In 2014, he did “Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto Inferno” and “Rurouni Kenshin The Legend Ends” and in 2015, he did the movie “Bakuman”. This was followed by the hit drama “Emperor’s Cook”. He has done a lot of movies with a wide range of roles. He had his drama debut in 2006 and became popular in the Kamen Rider series.

Aoi Miyazaki was cast as the main female lead

It will be her first time to co-star with Takeru Sato.

A talented actress who has appeared in a lot of movies such as “The Chart of Love” and “The Vancouver Asahi”. As a film actress, Aoi Miyazaki has also been active in a wide range of roles. Aoi Miyazaki was originally a fan of the novel. She said in a comment how delighted she was to be cast in the movie.

Prior to the movie

The book which was released in 2012 was made into a radio drama in 2013 that featured actors Tsumabuki Satoshi and Shihori Kanjiya.

It has also been released as an audio book.

In 2015, it has been released as a manga series in the Hana to Yume comics.

Location is from Hakodate to Argentina

Takeru Sato and Aoi Miyazaki went on a trip together in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It will be the first time that the Iguazu falls will be filmed since 1979. The shooting as well as the splash of the water from the tourist attraction will make a fantastic video.

Sato Takeru and Miyazaki Aoi films at Iguazu Falls for “If Cats Disappeared From the World” Movie
12/24/15

Check out the first teaser trailer and visuals released for the new movie “Sekai kara Neko ga Kieta nara” (If Cats Disappeared From the World) starring Sato Takeru and Miyazaki Aoi. The visual and the trailer of the movie features World Heritage Site Iguazu Falls in the border of Brazil and Argentina. The movie is slated for release on May 14, 2016.

The movie is based from a serialised novel written by film producer Kawamura Genki and distributed in LINE in 2012.  The movie will be directed by Nagai Akira.

In the film, Sato plays a mailman who learns he has not long to live. A devil then appears before him and offers to extend his life in exchange for something in the world that will disappear. Sato plays the dual role of the postman and the devil while Miyazaki plays the former lover of the postman. Hamada Gaku plays the postman’s friend.

In the upcoming movie “If a Cat disappears from the world”, Takeru Sato will play a dual role, as the hero who is a postman and as the devil who will offer the hero a chance to extend his life by erasing something in his life.  His role as the devil is characterized by having longer fingers which was created using special make up techniques.
