[Drama 2015] Yong-Pal 용팔이

Hey guys! *walks in with sleeping bag, snackage, essentials to camp out in this thread for the following weeks* So I thought I'd settle in now since we're so close to the premiere.  

I'm a HUGE fan of Joowon so I'm super excited. Especially because he does exceptional in darker roles. I like Kim Tae Hee so I'm okay with her as a lead. ^^ The rest of the cast seems promising too.

All I ask for is good writing and cinematography. If those two are well done I can usually bypass the usual hiccups of any kdrama.

Anyways I hope we have fun watching! And ofc spazzing over joowon

Well,I have no expectation that Ms Koala will ever like Joo Won.It is normal actually.one'snions can't be forced.

But what irks me is she covers the promo of every single project that Joo Won took in the past,not just 1 or 2 posts but a few of those,saying how she is intrested although she don't like JW,how JW to change her mind,etc etc.Then when they air,the dissing starts... (here this case,before it starts)Then the cycle continues..

 

I wonder why she doesn't leave him alone and stop complaining if she dislike him...It is like showing an interest in one particular food,then throw it on the floor and start stomping it in front of consumers...the worst of all,repeat the whole process.

Confirmation bias! 

 

Anyway, I like the new poster, but I think I still prefer the first one.  The new one feels a little vague.  Very, very pretty, but vague.    Oh well.  It's miles ahead in both creativity and specificity compared to all those drama posters where the cast is just standing in a group or something.

i'm a tad bit worried about how netizens will accept this drama. i've always been worried, cant help it...

currently, SBS has two chaebol (ridiculously rich people) dramas, Mask and High Society. both have quite high ratings currently, leading up their timeslots. to follow up with Mask is Yongpal, also another chaebol drama, with additional medical and gangsters storyline. i'm quite afraid if netizens dont really accept this drama since they might be tired of watching more chaebol storyline again, which consists of power-hungry siblings arguing with each other to get their family's company/fortune.

 

anyway, cant wait for Yongpal! whatever happens, i'll always be here spazzing about this drama and the actors and storyline. good to know they have some creative people BTS in creating those awesome teaser photos and videos. so excited!!!

 

i think it should be fine.. theres some medical element involved so hopefully that would ease off the chaebol-ness alittle. 

i have faith in this drama because of joo won! none of his dramas have failed me, including the recent cantabile tomorrow. it was awesome.

This article reads like a gossip column.  I'm surprised that Hancinema chose to translate it.

That said, let's hope it's just a miscommunication or a minor scheduling conflict.  It doesn't seem like it should be that big a deal for her to promote as long as everyone knows what she's doing and when.  Her character is in a coma after all.  Might be easier to get all the PR stuff out of the way while she has more time.  And it's not like that's bad for the show either.

I was thrown off because I didn't expect Hancinema to translate gossip. 

Anyway from this, we know that her character will be in a comma for 5 episodes. This means we get to see more of YongPal's cases and a gradual build up to the main story.

@mrdimples according to a translation, they filmed this major surgery scene for 12 hours straight. kudos to the cast for their hard work! surgery scene is not easy indeed. and those various shooting angles definitely takes up a long time.

 

@irilight i have never bothered about Koala's website. she has always talked bad about Joowon, and gloated most ridiculously during Naeil do Cantabile drama. it seems like she wants attention and wants people to post on her blog, telling her to give a chance to Joowon, how good he is, etc. i've never once bothered to give her the attention she wants.

 

CANT WAIT FOR YONGPAL!!!! i'm glad to see so many people putting their trust in Joowon here. my new spazzing place~

I think JW is particular for her, she really doesn't understand why People like him and his acting, so she keeps her rants again and again. Honnestly, I can understand because sometimes i'm heavily pissed by the praise of idols, who has no talents and only looks, and how They have projects after projects just because of their 6 pack. ...

at last she talk about his dramas, and her readers don't follow her opinion blindy so it's bénéficial ?

personnaly I don't see any hotness  in Jo Hyun Jae, same for Kim Tae Hee, I'm simply waiting for their acting because I don't know their dramas. Without JW I would waiti for the ending before watching, i'm too often disappointed in the midle of dramas.

don't care less about netizens but of course, you are talking about ratings and how it will affect Joo Won and the cast. 

My worry is always story. Then directing and the rest. 

Koreans will never tire of their chaebol dramas but more importantly this isn't really chaebol centric like say Mask. I don't know anything about High Society. Still, I will like to see the writer taking digs at the rich people and their "rich" problems.

Yes, i worry about ratings. But as you said, storyline is important in garnering people's interest. As long as the storyline is good, then it should gain viewer's interest. No reason to worry about it now, so i guess i'll just go with the flow.

So far, i'm satisfied with the casting. And i've watched the writer's previous work, so i kind of trust him/her. The directing worries me now. I dont like a small aspect of the first teaser, though it's beautifully executed. The 2nd teaser was much better, showing the gazillion emotions Joowon can carry. i've just completed the director's previous work, and there were a lot of clumsy directing and editing. So it worries me if the clumsiness remains. Of course people gets better with every project, but when i see the 1st teaser... Anyway, i really wish for the best for Yongpal.

can someone tell me who's responsible for the final product of the teasers? I think this latest one isn't exactly a teaser but perhaps the opening for each ep? In any case, I detect the same flaws as the 1st teaser. Weird editing. Anyone wants to shed some light on this? 

I actually laughed when I watch this latest bit, then I held back, waited for 1 hour and I still get the same reaction Ok, I get that it's a matter of style, Joo Won and the jerky movements. I see that often enough to know it's deliberate. But Kim Tae Hee? I can't even......You need to have more shifts in her pose and bigger movements to get the intended effect. When you do it this way, she looks like she's shaking her....neva mind. I will just try my hardest to imagine she was shrugging her shoulders or something. I sincerely hope whoever's in charge of this is not the one responsible for the drama. 

And what's that music? I am really bad with recognizing songs or the type...how would you categorize this music? Only the one in the 1st teaser was good. What to make of this one? I thought I heard someone saying Aaaarghhh in the background? Those with better ears, pray tell. 

And @farbarri, are you referring to Modern Farmer? That was a comedy, this is not. So, those weaknesses will be magnified. How can such PD stay and slay more projects? Let's see what he makes of YongPal.

I don't know if I am biased or what.....I don't think I have seen this particular look or stare....I mean Joo Won has his fair share of stares in his dramas but this look is different....something akin to...."I don't care what you think" attitude and cockiness....so....hello, Kim Tae Hyun!

Joo Won shares a photo of himself in a bloodied doctor’s gown for ‘Yong Pal’

 

 

Actor Joo Won recently updated his Instagram with a photo from the filming of his new drama ‘Yong Pal.’

In the photo, Joo Won is seen wearing a surgical mask and a operating theater gown, and one could clearly see blood all over him. But Joo Won cut a comical pose for the camera instead, as he wrote, “SBS TV Yong Pal will premiere on August 5th at 10PM, please show lots of support.”

Joo Won will take on the role of ‘Yong Pal’ in the new SBS TV Wed-Thu drama, where he will play an elite doctor who will operate regardless of patient or venue for money.

My mom totally spazzed when she saw Yongpal's 1st teaser on tv.  it's been a while since we last saw Joowon's drama together. She has been comparing/imagining him acting out other actors' characters.

@mrdimples i dont know if it's just me, but i kind of like the songs so far. There seems to be a touch of light hearted humor in the drama, from the songs played in teasers 2 and 3. Teaser 2's song indicates minor humor wherease teaser 3's song fits for revenge, action, melo and some other emotions. I hope there will be a really beautiful ballad accompanying Yongpal's struggles.
