Alibaba Pictures Invests $150 Million in Dadi Cinema Chain

Alibaba Pictures Group, the movies division of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, has agreed to invest $154 million (RMB1 billion) in convertible bonds issued by Dadi Cinema Construction. The move is the first by APG into theater circuits.

The two companies also struck side deals covering movie promotion, e-commerce and other film-related businesses.

The financial terms of the deal and details of the convertibility of the bonds were not disclosed.
Dadi is China’s second largest cinema investment and management company. It had attendance over 71.6 million, and box office which grew in line with national trends, at 47%, to reach $339 million (RMB2.2 billion) in 2015. At the end of April 2016, Dadi Cinema owned 313 cinemas with a total of 1,662 screens, covering 28 provinces and 150 cities nationwide. It also has more than 310 contracted cinemas set to open.

“Through collaborating with Dadi Cinema, Alibaba Pictures will extend its internet capabilities and basic
industry services to cinemas, giving them direct access to millions of e-commerce users in Alibaba’s e-commerce ecosystem, and bringing new revenue streams and a new business model to cinemas,” APG said in a statement.

“Cinemas will play an integral part in Alibaba Pictures’ operations, as the company aims to build an integrated entertainment platform for the film industry. It will not only serve as an important consumption context within the entertainment industry, but also become a core application of internet in the film industry,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of Alibaba Pictures.

In 2015, APG focused its expansion on building an integrated entertainment platform for the film industry. It made acquisitions including Yueke Software Engineering, Taobao Movie and Yulebao, and participated in the buyout of Bona Film Group from its public trading on NASDAQ. APG now incorporates film financing and investment, content sourcing and production, intellectual property nurturing, Internet-based promotion and distribution, and cinema services.

“As the Chinese film industry is constantly innovating and achieving breakthroughs, such collaboration on a capital level will enhance the synergies of both parties in aspects such as film distribution, movie marketing, joint membership management and the establishment of big data,” said Yu Xin, GM of Dadi Cinema.

APG now has a production investment slate that includes “Ferry Man,” “Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossom” and “Ao Jiao Yu Pian Jian.”  In 2015, APG also invested in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation; and in REAL, a Korean production starring popular Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun which is expected to release in 2017.

Sung Dong Il Reveals Kim Soo Hyun’s Funny And Down-To-Earth Personality 

 

Kim-Soo-Hyun-Sung-Dong-Il-Taxi.pngActor Sung Dong Il has talked about actor Kim Soo Hyun’s actual personality.

On the June 14 broadcast of tvN’s “Taxi,” actor Sung Dong Il and “Reply” series producer Shin Won Ho appeared as guests.

During the show, the MCs mention actor Kim Soo Hyun, who Sung Dong Il worked with in the film “Real.”

Sung Dong Il says, “I worked with him for the first time [in 'Real']. He’s a very uplifting person than you’d think. He’s funnier and more of a jokester than me. He has great manners; he would always bow and greet others even when someone just one year older than him appears.”

Hearing this, MC Oh Man Suk compliments Kim Soo Hyun saying, “There is a reason to his success.”

B: Soo Hyun is acting as a trouble shooter/villian/ one who stops at nothing to get what he wants and so smoking a cigarette definitely is not inappropriate.

A: If i am the director, i may even propose that he smokes a cigar.

How we wish we have such novel ideas as our taiwanese counterparts. Hopefully, next year, we can do something similar while his is in camp.

Happy Mid-Autumn festival everybody.

Hopefully,  REAL will be as big a hit in Cinemas as people around celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival.

NEWS

On the 12th , according to sources related to the film industry , the movie " REAL " has been completed . Kim Soo Hyun movie " REAL " on June 30 ended , the movie on June 30 ended , six months of filming but in order to carry out the plot , better show and better visual effects were additional shooting , the movie is expected to be released in  China and South Korea . The film is currently in post-production and release date has not been determined , but South Korea is expected to release time for next year . In addition , Kim Soo Hyun next work being careful consideration .

Using this picture because movie REAL was also shot in the coming soon PARADISE CITY where SOO HYUN is also the Spokesman.

It was revealed that a part of the Paradise City will be opened as exhibition hall for the movie REAL.

The finale of the movie REAL is when our SOO HYUN is strenuously fighting against powerful hard core criminals and that is also the most exciting part of the movie. The entire crew expended all their energy and innumerable time on this part of the movie.  There are 111 scenes in REAL and took up exactly 6 months for the shooting. Out of the 111 scenes, Soo Hyun is involved in 101 of them.

Soo Hyun revealed that the movie was his first encounter of a movie which took such a long time for the shooting. He made great effort to keep in his best of conditions. He is very close to the entire crew. It is also a very memorable experience for Soo Hyun.
