Hi Vo Ki Trieu, thanks for sharing the photos. He looks sexy & HOT in the pictures.  I'm looking forward to this upcoming movie since Siwan will be playing a character, 'Minjae' that he's never really done before! He's a good actor & so far he seems able to pull off whatever he's given. In the movie, he plays a college student who looks innocent but after he's recruited into a group of con men, he turns into one of the best con men.  The movie will start playing in theaters at the end of March. I hope they could release more stills. Can't wait!

On February 20, the tvN show “The List 2017” picked eight actors who fully embodied their original webtoon characters in the onscreen adaptations.

3. Lee Sung Min and Im Siwan

Lee Sung Min Im Siwan

One of tvN’s early and most surprising hits, these two actors moved audiences in the highly relatable drama adaptation of “Incomplete Life (Misaeng”). Lee Sung Min’s performance was a worthy addition to his veteran career, while idol actor Im Siwan would go on to be cast in many other high-profile projects as a result of his work in the drama.

one line drops trailer

oneline.jpg?w=620&h=883

Jin Goo is back on the silver screen with Im Si Wan in a movie about scamming. Ha. What’s new but I’m excited to see these two actors together in a movie. The Koreans really love their frauds and scams since there have been so may movies centred on that dicey theme. Im Si Wan’s unasuming manner and acting style continue to be be his strength, which also him extremely watchable and likeable onscreen. Jin Goo is Jin Goo and is ever charismatic as ever… and well, the trailer speaks for itself. Let’s just say if Im Si Wan was scamming me, I wouldn’t know it based on that boy-next-door charm. The movie premieres in March.

Im Siwan may be making headway on finding a new agency.

Recent reports claimed that the actor was discussing with Plum Entertainment, which represents actors like Kang Sora, in order to sign an exclusive contract with the agency. However, it appears the reports have jumped the gun.

A source from Plum Entertainment stated, “It is true that we have reached out to Im Siwan, but we have not had any specific discussions about a possible exclusive contract nor have there been any decisions made.”

The source reiterated that although they did contact the star with the interest of signing him on with an exclusive contract, their initial discussion has not led to any developments.

Meanwhile, all of ZE:A’s contracts with Star Empire ended back in January, and some members have reportedly been looking into other agencies.

[Herald Review] ‘One Line’ tries to discuss money, falls short

image
Im Si-wan stars in “One Line.” (Next Entertainment World)

New bank fraud thriller “One Line” traces a very specific type of crime that ran rampant in 2005.

By that time, Korea’s economy had recovered from the 1997 Asian financial crisis, and the global economic crisis of 2007 had not yet struck. Thought to be stable, it was a period when the wide gap between the rich and poor solidified and stirred up anger among those with less.

It was during this time that a group of scammers began to “rob” banks, according to director Yang Kyung-mo, by helping “the common people” who did not qualify for loans falsify documents so that that could borrow money from banks. Acting as brokers, these scammers receive a fee after their clients obtained their loans.

Lee Min-jae, played by Im Si-wan, is a helpless university student in need of quick cash. He seeks out loan brokerage services when he is unable to apply for a loan.

The head of the operation Jang Seok-goo, played by Jin Goo, is eager to help. Exuding charisma, Jang dons the mask of a gentleman. “I like doing things peacefully,” he says, distancing himself from thugs who take money from the poor. He prides himself on handing out justice -- he only helps the less fortunate claim what is theirs from the big bad banks.

Jang’s weapon is a book that contains the details of banks’ loan products, which allows him to find the perfect product for each client. If Jang is the brain of the operations, his right-hand man Park Ji-won is the id, played with chilling force by Park Byung-eun. Park is more violent and more ambitious, single-mindedly pursuing money and power.

Jang helps the seemingly innocent collegian Min-jae falsify his job status -- complete with a suit and fake office number -- and score a loan.

However, it turns out that Min-jae has been scheming to cheat the crooks -- he gets away without paying his brokerage fees. He has been amassing a large sum, running his own scam operation with the help of an art student friend adept at forging documents. In a turn from his role as the heart-of-gold rookie office worker Jang Geu-rae in 2014 TV series “Misaeng,” Im here plays a con artist who takes full advantage of his honest face and those who trust him.

Jang, seeing potential in Min-jae’s skills of deceit and calculation, invites him to join his operation. When Jang is outed by the police, he retires with his bags of cash into a warehouse, vowing to keep his head low.

Min-jae and Jang’s former colleague Ji-won end up competing for prospective debtors, the former using the budding online system, personal charm and emotional manipulation, and the latter linking arms with the heads of big banks.

Intermittent scenes show that Min-jae comes from a poor, struggling family and is determined to escape it. The character transitions from a student to a shrewd con man, then grows a conscience when he sees how his scams have affected people’s lives. Some, unable to pay off their debts, hang themselves; others hurt themselves to repay debts with insurance claim payments, and still others have been tortured into paying by the ruthless Ji-won.

Director Yang met with such scammers. “I was struck by how they believed they were helping people. It was their way of helping those who couldn’t get loans. I wanted to show the reality of the big system.”

But just as handing out loans to people cannot address the fundamental reasons of their poverty, neither does this movie arrive at the systematic problems of the Korean economy at the time. It does struggle to examine the nature of money in a capitalist society. For some, like Min-jae’s family, it is a means for basic sustenance; for others, like Ji-won, it has become the means and the end, the blind purpose of life.

Unfortunately, the film circles back to the dichotomy of the poor and the rich, the good and the bad. It seems to want to probe deeper into the foundation of the Korean economy, but comes up short.
