Live Action Bakuman Set For Next Year

by Sanjay Parbhu

A live action adaptation for the popular manga series Bakuman has been announced and is set to release in 2015. The film will be directed by Hitoshi One with the two main protagonists, Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi, being played by actors Takeru Satoh and Ryunosuke Kamiki.

The Shonen Jump title (created by the same guys that did Deathnote) revolves around two aspiring mangakas and the challenges they face when creating manga for Shonen Jump Magazine. The series began in 2008 and finished in 2012 on its 20th volume, since then three anime series have been adapted from the manga.

Not only does the plot of the series fit well in a live action setting, but all of Mashiro’s drawings will be done by the original illustrator of the manga, Takashi Obata. While Obata will be part of the staff, at the time of writing it has not been announced whether or not Tsugumi Ohba (co-creator of Bakuman/Deathnote) will have any involvement in the adaptation.

Live Action “Bakuman” Planned for 2015

by Jeno

tumblr_nn7bsjjJVU1u0s9l5o3_540.jpg

Fans of Bakuman listen up! There is going to be a live-action adaptation for the series, and it looks like they have started work on the principal photography!

A earlier tweet went circulating around that filming was taking place in Hachioji. The official announcement soon followed, for a live-action movie based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Bakuman Shonen Jump series in 2015. The duo were also responsible for creating the Death Note series.

A quick jump start to anyone who might want to look into the series: the storyline revolves around how Akito Takagi found a notebook with drawings done by Moritaka Mashiro, and from there on, Takagi tries to convince Mashiro into creating his own manga. After citing some reasons (his uncle died from overwork) and being all discouraged, Takagi arranges for Mashiro and Miho Azuki (Mashiro’s crush) to meet, where they find out that Azuki wants to become a voice actress. They then made a proposal that the two of them should marry if Azuki gets to become a voice actress for an anime adaptation of one of their mangas.

As incredulous as it sounds, it actually happens at the end – they share their first kiss together. As for the journey and how they went about achieving it? Well, that’s for you to find out! There’s like a number of volumes to keep you company. (20 to be exact)

Hitoshi Ōne, (Moteki live action) will be directing the movie. Takeru Satoh (who plays Kenshin in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin) will be acting as Mashiro and Ryunosuke Kamiki (live-action Kenshin’s Sōjirō Seta) will take on the role of Takagi.

By Frontalspy

Bakuman is a manga series that started 2008 and ended in mid 2012. The series is written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the same duo behind the original Death Note manga. The series ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump for a total of 20 volumes. To date the manga has sold over 15 million copies. The manga follows two students who wish to become manga artists. An anime adaptation started airing in 2010 and was produced by J.C. Staff. Two sequel seasons aired in the next three years. A video game based on the series released on the Nintendo DS in 2011.

Here is a synopsis of Bakuman from MAL:

Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi are pretty much foils of each other. Mashiro, an average 9th grade student but talented artist, and Takagi, an overall advanced 9th grader and aspiring writer. After great convincing, Takagi convinces Mashiro to join him in becoming the greatest mangakas Japan has ever seen. Takagi, with his gift of writing, hopes to become a successful mangaka, and Mashiro, with his gift of art, hopes to marry the girl of his dreams, Azuki Miho.

The live action film adaptation of Bakuman will be out in Japanese theatres next year. More information about the film will be released in the upcoming months.
