I think the chess thing is refer to something such as power struggle, the one on top, the one who have the most power, etc etc. Since a game of chess containing things such a king (magistral role) along with its fellow, fighting the opposite group of people. And in the end, the winner would definitely take the crown. 
Lee Myung Woo director (the one who also directing this drama) is known through his speciality on creating such a tragic ending. Say what? What Happened in Bali, Fashion King and All In are just only some of his 9 dramas and the three ended up tragically.  X_X

About the director, i don't remember him.
When i'm looking information about Punch, i'm also searching information about him.
I just realized that i'm watching some of his dramas. Including the drama that end tragically.
From some of the comments i read about him, he's indeed famous by making a tragic end in drama.
How about Punch? Let's wait and see.
I hope 'Punch' will be good, including the end part.

After, i read your post. I have a question for myself, 'how about a satisfactory end?'
Hmm, I think @everyone has their respective standards for it.
Just like most people, i also would choose "happy ending" rather than "sad ending".
I don't mind about sad ending, as long as the end of the drama was indeed reasonable.
There's not much questions left on my head, if the drama's finished.
About Punch, because i know the hero has six month to live.
I can prepare my self, if in the end, the hero will die.

@yumenas: Yeah, I agree that everybody has a perspective about a satisfactory ending. But we all agree that a good ending is somehow related with a natural development of the story, all loose ends tide up, a natural conclusion of the story. I can manage sad endings but not frustrating ones. As I said earlier, It is up to the writer to give us a good ending. If the writer doesn`t have a clear vision from the start about the whole story, he/she could mess his own work. I am not worried about Punch. Not only I trust the writer but the story is somehow predictable.

Yes... yes...
I'm not familiar with the writer. But i read a lot of positive comments about his work, especially "The Chaser".
I hope 'Punch' will be more successful. ;

"Punch" Cast Pray For Show's Success

Kim Rae Won, Kim Ah Joong, Cho Jae Hyun, and other cast members of SBS’s new drama, “Punch,” held a ritual to wish for the show’s success on December 1 in Incheon.

The series is about the confessions of a prosecutor and his accounts of the world in which he suffered. The drama is expected to inform the audiences of the hardships and incidents that take place within the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office and the people involved in the law world.

Kim Rae Won will play the role of “Chief Prosecutor Park Jung Hwan,” Kim Ah Joong will take the role of “Shin Ha Kyung of the Violent Crime Department,” Cho Jae Hyun will play “Attorney General Lee Tae Jun,” On Joo Wan will play “Lee Ho Sung,” a warm-hearted prosecutor, and Seo Ji Hye will play “Choi Yeon Jin,” a prosecutor who seems to have everything in life.

“I hope all members of the ‘Punch’ cast will make it big, and I hope they will stay healthy and make it to the end of the series without any problems,” prayed Producer Lee Myung Woo at the ritual.

The drama will air its first episode on December 15.
