Eating out for "lou sang"  this year, I think will be practically nil cause lots of restaurants are sceptical to dish

many are doing it at home.. the restaurants have started the promo for takeout options and collection at restaurants nearer the cny dates. but the sad thing is, we won't be able to do it for co department.. it was a tradition for all to gather and feast for a better year ahead.. my colleague in the corporate comms dept is having headache over the annual orange distribution and red packets for everyone in the co.. i dunno how they are going to manage it this year.. e-oranges? lol

We might get employees to self collect the oranges  at the designated store and for the red packets, we might implement e-wallet. Still waiting for approval.

The restaurants over here also have started the promo for takeout, am ordering the "pun choy" and few dishes

for CNY eve.

@MayanEcho  good morning.

I thought you were in bed that is why I never greet you.

Over my side here, normally deep fried with yam, sweet potato coated in rice flour, or cut into bite pieces

cook in coconut milk together with yam, sweet potato and sago.

Last year batch of Nian Koa still sitting inside the freezer, LOL

@MayanEcho what type of CNY cakes you get over your side, any pictures.

@Nodame  - I speak Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, a little Punjabi and little Mandarin.

Thanks to my Kdrama watch, I read and understand a little Korean.

How's the taste like wrap in popiah skin and fry.... never seen or taste before.

Hi @Lmangla  -  Good Morning, we are talking about CNY foods.:w00t:

omo, omo @kokodus ~ the clips for last few days for emanet are totally daebak! like YT fans, am wondering what bad twist will come on friday. hahahahah...

like someone on YT said, this week is like 101 ways to say "I love you" without even saying the words! these two are on fire. so in this clip, she found he has written some shares/inheritance to her and she is all mad. if my brain was working, I would find the right words to fangirl. hahahaha... so much emotion. "none of this matters with you!" -- omo, seher. and his response "I trust you, you are the only woman I trust" wahahahaha... he also totally knows zuhal and ikbal are snakes which is why he just tolerates them. kekekek...

which episode are you on? am only on ep 21. :sweatingbullets:

@Thong Thin @sadthe1st @Min2206 @Nodame and everyone else who celebrates chinese new year, have a good one! so what is the new year animal? will it be a good year unlike 2020? I wonder if any astrologers got it right for last year. there was a whatsapp forward that was going around where all the astrologers who predicted on tv 2020 will be an amazing year got trolled. didn't know whether to laugh or shake my head. :sweatingbullets:

@sadthe1st  We hardly bake nian gao (chinese sticky rice cake)  - not easy to make.   Usually my family will buy a few for prayers.   We either steam it soft , eat it on its own, or fried with egg batter, just like @MayanEcho mentioned.  Many ways to eat it.   Its texture like mochi.

For @larus @joccu and whoever interested - This cake is considered one of the most important cakes eaten for Chinese New Year. It is made with sticky rice or glutinous rice flour, and is symbolic of family cohesiveness. In Chinese, this cake is called “nian gao,” which symbolizes increasing prosperity every year. For New Years, people greet each other “‘Nian Nian Gao Sheng” which means “advance toward higher positions and prosperity step by step.”

Hi @Nodame  @Thong Thin @iksunijini again
And thank you @Lmangla for the early CNY greetings.   Our Chinese New Year celebration begins on 12 Feb this year.  Chinese Zodiac Sign 2021 – Ox.

ah it is next month; sorry, brain bit zapped. I know it is something around this year and thought thats why you were discussing snacks. it is harvest festival here. so mom is cooking some related dishes....

I take the predictions with a grain of salt but def interesting

yea, I find them interesting even though I don't take them seriously. more like curiousity I guess. in one astronomy show on discovery channel, these scientists were saying that our star sign is actually wrong because the stars have all moved one constellation from their position in the sky when these star signs were figured in ancient times. that made me laugh. :D

Oh !... another way of eating the Nian Guo is by steaming it then coat with shredded coconut with a little salt !

So yummy !

@Min2206 do you eat this way. I find is better then deep fried.

Thanks @Lmangla for the advance CNY greetings.
