@gerrytan8063 I am really glad that she was able to derive some modicum of comfort through the novel, and have it as a platform to share her work as she intended, before edits and more edits changed it. It must have been so distressing to see her labour of love transformed into a hack job, far removed from its original conception. Seeing the international version, while far more cohesive, is still quite different from the novel... I do wonder whether at least that version has her stamp of approval despite its changes from the source material. I assume that it does, since she spoke of working on a 30-episode script.

Come to think of it, I remember reading that there was similar controversy with Black's scriptwriter Choi Ran:

Choi Ran, the writer of OCN’s drama “Black,” recently posted a blog entry about the drama.

Titled “Saying Farewell to Black,” Choi Ran revealed her affection for the drama as well as her complicated feelings about how her script was portrayed on air. She wrote, “‘Black’ is a project like my own child that I had in the works for a while. I felt sad and had mixed emotions as I watched the drama on-air. I was very upset the story I wished to tell was portrayed differently on air against my will. I worked hard, but think there was a lack of communication.

Wow... talk about blatant disregard and disrespect for the scriptwriter's vision. Is this a rampant practice in the drama industry? How much say does a scriptwriter have in the final product?

Thank you for the information regarding Queen Seondeok. The KSCPP booklet is truly an interesting read, and I noticed have been introduced to 3 of the 4 historical characters through dramas that I have loved - Sejong (Tree with Deep Roots), Saimdang and Yulgok Yi I (Saimdang). Have not watched The Great Queen Seondeok (62 episodes!) but might try it one day when life is not as hectic.

@plainenglish Thank you for sharing the details about Different Dreams. There appears to be no mention of her co-stars yet. Is it too much to hope that we see a reunion of SSH and LYA in her new drama? Revisited the finale again the other day and I realised just how much I miss seeing them together...

@gerrytan8063 Thank you so much for the kind offer - I truly appreciate it. I found the full 62 English subbed episodes being posted on MBCClassic Youtube channel here so for now, that should be sufficient. If it is no longer available by the time I do watch, I will ask for your help :)

Listening to the Saimdang OST today and the feels come flooding back all over again...

And this beautifully made FMV of OST Part 9 - Anda's "Without Anyone Knowing":

Listening to "Amnesia"+ reading the prologue or Epilogue = tears by thinking in Gyeom's suffer. What great OST this drama gave us!

@Ana Paula Lima I agree. The songs and instrumental soundtracks are so evocative... moving me to tears often, as I associate them with the scenes they accompanied. It is a shame that of the 10 songs, there were only 6 official MVs, and there is (at least not that I know) none for Part 1 (Back on that Day), Part 3 (Going to You), Part 9 (Without Anyone Knowing) and Part 10 (Half).

When we think about it, the love story of Saimdang is one of such restraint, with physical contact reduced to the barest minimum... yet their abiding love, brought to life by LYA and SSH's incredible chemistry, sears the soul and remains in our hearts long after.

Totally agree, @liddi

LYA and SSH performance and this OST saved this Drama, because those SBS edtions took away the intensity and even the meaning of several important scenes.By their acting we could feel it and keep their story with us. They never kiss each other in 23 eps of scream time ,they only kissed when they were soon to be engage in the firts 5 eps,  but this don't make it sound less romantic, they show in how many differents a couple that really love each other can demonstrate affection.

For me, one of the strongest scenes was after  Saimdang's confrontation with her husband and his lover,  she created that intense red painting deep in pain, when Gyeom saw it immediately detects that her soul suffers... Then we have The Scene when Gyeom paints a beautiful peony, as if he were bringing a balm to her sorrow.

@Ana Paula Lima That scene exemplifies their relationship - understanding, comforting, always mindful and respectful. Her indescribable pain reflected in the red of the painting, his peony as a symbol of solace and support, and finally.. her butterfly which is drawn towards that springwell of hope, and derives comfort from what it offers. Beautifully, poetically done.

On the topic of OSTs, I can identify scenes where most of the songs are featured. However, try as I might, I can't pinpoint where the following songs are played -

Just One Love (ISU)

Amnesia (Kim Bum Soo)

Song of the Star (MelodyDay)

Half (Moon Hyung Seo)

It is really frustrating because I know them so well, but now I wonder if I knew them from the soundtrack, or from the drama itself. Do you have any idea?

Huum let me see.. Just One Love plays when they say their finally good-bye,  here in the minute 45 of the ep plays it (the complete scene goes from 40-46 min).// It also plays after Gyeom Lee read her letter to him at Mt. Koomgang in the last minutes of ep 24

*Half is the soundtrack for SJY at this link here they show SJY picture [but I can't remember the scene]

*Song of the star - This one I really don't know

Watching those scenes make me wonder againg about WHY they at least they didn't add a scene with SJY and Rade lider's talking with each other in Italy it would be great </3

@Ana Paula Lima Ahh... in the international version, the parting scene at the pier (Ep29) features ZIA's "Why", not "Just One Love".

Meanwhile, Kim Yuna's "Yeon" plays in the scene when Gyeom reads her farewell letter on Mt. Geumgang (Ep28).

That photo should be of SJY tailing behind Saimdang and Gyeom in Siesta di Luna. However, in the international version (Ep30), what is playing is "When Spring Comes" by HowL. In the SBS version, "Yeon" plays, followed by "Just One Love". I don't think "Half" is featured at all...

Now I really wonder if I have heard Amnesia in the drama. Gah!
