Baek In Geol (백인걸,白仁傑 1497- 1579) was Yulgok Yi I elementary teacher

It looks like Ok San Yi Wu (옥산 이우,玉山李瑀, 1542-1609) will be the protege of Yi Gyeom since Oksan Yi Wu is known to be a talented musician, poet, calligrapher & painter who specialise in the 4 Gentlemen (사군자,四君子) which denotes the  Orchid (Spring), Bamboo (Summer) Chrysanthemum (Autumn) & Plum (Winter) under the East Asia art traditional genre of Flower & Birds (화조화, 花鳥畫). This genre generally cover a wide range of topics e.g.  flowers (plants), fish, insects, birds, pets (dogs, cats) too, in which this drama is focus on

The instrument that Yi Gyeom plays is the Geomungo (거문고), a zither stringed musical instrument that you struck or pluck the strings with a bamboo stick called a Suldae, due to the vigorous playing techiniques, it is thought to be a more "masculine" instrument although those who had seen the drama "Hwangjini", she plays the said instrument. It is a favourite instrument among the Scholars to clear & cultivate their minds usually played for their own listening pleasure rather than a listening audience

There are plenty of caption in today episode, I will have to watch the RAW & also the Taiwan version for a better perspective

Yi Won Su carry back on with a A frame carrier known as a jige (지게) what he claims it is a Hwa Cho Jang (화초장, 花草欌), which Shin Saimdang was not pleased on with the furniture, as her husband is once again been trick that it is a family heirloom. The maid Hyang corrected him that it is not a Hwa Cho Jang, as it open from the top, looking more like a rice chest (Duiju,뒤주) with painted motif

It is a common use items that represent Korean daily life. Jige is a typical Korean transportation instrument for centuries. An average man can carry 50-70kg of load on a jige that weights 5-6 kg

She promised him intelligent sons & she recite the first 2 verses of the poem Seok Juk Hwa (석죽화, 石竹花) from Goryeo Dynasty Minister Jeong Seub Myeong (정습명,鄭襲明 1076-1151) that impress him as she describe herself using the poem that she had intelligence in the classics & a lowly status didn't matter & guarantee Min Chi Hyeong that he will have intelligent sons

This is 2.3% lower than the previous episode.

Meanwhile, KBS "Chief Kim" rated 16.1% and MBC "Missing 9" rated 4.0%.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Saimdang: Light's Diary" Episode 7

Near the end of this episode, there's a brief, lovely little scene where Saimdang takes her family out to nature and uses her powers of artistic description to help them understand natural beauty. This scene is noteworthy for how horribly out of place it is. In between Lee Gyeom's detective work, Saimdang's domestic problems, and greater political struggles, there's precious little time spent actually discussing art and poetry. Which is pretty jarring considering that the whole reason Saimdang is famous is because she's an artist and a poet.

...All right, I guess technically she does also have a reputation for being a good Confucian mother. But even then we rarely ever actually see Saimdang do much mothering. We do see Saimdang beat the children at one point, and it's not completely clear whether we're supposed to sympathize with her. While that kind of discipline may have been common at the time, usually its appearance in historical dramas is shorthand for unnecessarily vicious cruelty.

The framing device is, as usual, of no help. The scene transitions are so awful it's like the production team is trying to sabotage "Saimdang: Light's Diary" on purpose. We go straight from a harlequin magazine cliffhanger to Sang-hyeon talking about the document's historical relevance? Really? It doesn't help that in the modern day so much of the conflict centers around Jeong-hak considering sinister plots upon learning how Ji-yoon soliciting the help of "that fat woman".

"Saimdang: Light's Story" is astonishingly bad. It's trying to do every possible genre except educational docudrama, which is the only genre it really needs to be doing. But worse than that it's failing. Every single conspiracy is marred by its general preposterous goofiness. The villains are all senselessly petty jerks with poorly defined motives that only just barely make sense.

Like, how is it that twenty years later Lee Gyeom and Saimdang's lives are still so utterly consumed by teenage angst? How exactly do the academic politics in the present day work? Who does Hye-jeong work for, and why is her doing lab work for Ji-yoon a problem? Why can't Ji-yoon and Sang-hyeon find any sponsors for their obviously important research? Is Ji-yoon's husband ever coming back? How did Lee Gyeom get to Italy? Does Saimdang even try to write poetry any more? And most importantly, why is "Saimdang: Light's Diary" dedicating so much energy to answering other stupid questions that no one ever asked?

Lee Young-ae's 'Saimdang' rating plummets to single digit

 

 

SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Yonhap) -- SBS TV's high budget series "Saimdang, Memoir of Colors" saw its ratings drop below 10 percent despite efforts to salvage the much-hyped Lee Young-ae show, data showed Thursday.

Episode seven of "Saimdang," which aired Wednesday night, recorded 9.7 percent nationwide viewership, according to Nielsen Korea. KBS 2TV's "Good Manager," aired during the same time slot, stood at 16.1 percent and MBC TV's "Missing 9" picked up 4 percent.

The 30-episode fantasy period series centers on Shin Saimdang (1504-1551), Korea's maternal icon associated with raising the Korean Confucian scholar Yulgok of the Joseon Dynasty. The series made headlines for bringing Lee of the famed show "Daejanggeum" back to TV for the first time in 13 years.

"Saimdang" initially started strong, with the first two episodes scoring 15.6 percent and 16.3 percent in nationwide viewership, respectively. But it suffered losses for three-straight broadcasts until seeing a slight uptick in episode six.

The show owes its underwhelming reception to what viewers say is a slow and discombobulated plot, which even Lee's glowing screen presence and the series' high production value apparently can't make up for.

To stop the bloodletting of viewers, SBS TV has scrambled to re-edit the entirety of the series for a much more engaging and impactful viewing experience. But whether it can ultimately salvage the show remains to be seen.

Jeong Min Seok finds his way to Miseon Gallery office then goes to the laptop/notebook & run a series of password & got into the computer & download the files on the USB thumb drive. In the nick of time, he managed to complete the download all the files just as Director Sun & her husband Chairman Heo comes into the office & Jeong Min Seok had to hide but was able to eavesdrop on their conversation over Chairman Heo complaining to his wife who had spend their slush fund on a fake Geumgangsan although Director Sun insist that she will make the Geumgangsan authentic. Director Sun warns her husband not to make the matter as an issue as she is keeping the Double Entry Accrual Bookkeeping ledgers. The relationship between husband & wife is warring. Director Sun mentioned that he had every woman in the numerous neighbourhood of Seoul. While they argue, Jeong Min Seok phone vibrate, Chairman Heo tells that it is not his & Director Sun checks hers & find that it was not hers & raise her suspicion whether someone had been to her office. She goes to look at her office table only & touches that her laptop/notebook is warm then proceed to investigate, only to have a staff rushed in to tells that some had the reporters had damage the gallery artifacts in their bid to cover the story. Director Sun went out with the staff to deals with matter, follow by Chairman Heo. Jeong Min Seok breathe a sign of relief

Seo Ji Yun while sleeping on her desk, had a dream thagt An Gyeon Geumgangsan being burnt by Yi Gyeom in Tuscany, Italy. Shin Saimdang/Seo Ji Yun? running at the corridor of Siesta De Luna, then Seo Ji Yun woke up & tell herself that the dream is too real then asked what is this happening to her

Miseon Gallery the housekeeping was vacuuming the Director Sun office to find the piece of password that Jeong Min Seok left behind in his haste to hide. The staff place the paper on her table as Director Sun walks into her desk to find the piece of paper & recalls last night suspicion, then Director Sun asked her staff to look into the address on the paper Ogin Gil Ro, 240 (it is in Seochon)

Seo Ji Yun goes out to meet with her husband junior to find her husband whereabouts & assures her mother in law that all is well

Eun Soo finds his grandmother ironing her son shirts as Eun Soo asked that his father in not around, but Mrs Jeong assures Eun Soo that his father will return home soon. Mrs Jeong mumble whether her son had a decent meals out there

Seo Ji Yun looking at her family picture on her phone, then her husband junior sits on the next table to avoid notice & convey Jeong Min Seok that he needs to leave his family in order to secure the safety of his family. Seo Ji Yun asked whether her husband is well (health) as the Junior assures her. Seo Ji Yun convey to the Junior to tells that Jeong Min Seok that all is well with the family & needn't worry

Yi Mae Chang, Shin Saimdang's daughter reads the versus written by Yi Gyeom & Shin Saimdang on An Gyeon Geumgangsan painting & tries to identify the Biikjo seal as some bird. When Maid Hyang calls out for Yi Mae Chang. Shin Saimdang asked Yi Mae Chang where are her brothers & she replied they are off playing what else & asked her to find them & bring them home

Preview Jeong Min Seok meets with Seo Ji Yun & tells that the Geumgangsan was bought by slush fund costing 50 billion. Jeong Min Seok gives Seo Ji Yun the application  for divorce (for their safety)
