Idols Starring in Films for Second Half of 2014 Include T.O.P, Sulli, D.O, Dohee and More
More and more idols have started to make their names known through acting, also known as ‘acting idols.’ ZE:A’s Im Siwan earned praise for his role in “The Attorney,” B1A4’s Jinyoung received a lot of love for his part in “Miss Granny,” and increasing numbers of idol actors are showing their abilities to act through dramas and films.


To start off, Tiny G’s Dohee, who was first recognized for her ‘dialect’ acting in tvN’s “Reply 1994,” will be taking a shot at a horror movie for the first time through “Tunnel 3D.” She has taken on the role of a mysterious girl who constantly lingers around a tunnel, and is planning to show her abilities to express emotions using her eyes, rather than speaking in this film.
Dal Shabet’s Woohee will also be taking part in “Tunnel 3D” as the role of a club DJ. As the character named Hye Young, Woohee will be showing off her honest and sexy charms, unlike the cute image she has previously displayed on stage as a singer.
f(x)’s Sulli, who has acted in “Seodongyo” and “Love Needs a Miracle” prior to her debut as an idol, will be appearing in the upcoming film “The Pirates.” She will be playing actress Son Ye Jin’s younger counterpart as the character of Yeo Wol, and will be portraying a completely different side.
EXO’s D.O is also trying his part at acting through the new film “Cart,” which follows the story of a mega store that suddenly lays off contract workers and the aftermath of the workers who decide to stand up for themselves against the unfair dismissal. The EXO member will be playing the role of Tae Young, the high school son of actress Yeom Jeong Ah’s character. Before the release of this film, D.O will be starring in the SBS drama “It’s Okay, It’s Love,” which premiered on July 23.
One of the original acting idols, BIGBANG’s T.O.P, is also planning to make his return as actor Choi Seung Hyun. Following his previous roles in “71: Into the Fire” and “Commitment,” T.O.P has already earned recognition from the public for his acting abilities. He will be starring alongside actors Jo Seung Woo, Shin Se Kyung, Kim Yoon Suk, Yoo Hae Jin, and more in the film “Tazza: The High Rollers 2.”

EXO's D.O. has successfully taken his first step as an actor. He made his first appearance in the first episode as the fan of popular novelist Jang Jeyeol in the SBS drama "It’s Okay, That's Love". D.O. has displayed various expressions right from the first episode. Shortly after the start of the first episode, he appeared crying and painfully calling out for Jang Jeyeol in his  blurred illusions after the latter was assaulted by his brother. He (D.O) also appeared again as a supportive audience member dishing out supportive cheers for Jang Jeyeol at the talkshow between Jang Jeyeol and Ji Haesoo.

Han Kangwoo reacted to every word of Jang Jeyeol, he was happy whenever Jang Jeyeol was happy, as well. When he was pestering and pleading Jang Jeyeol to read his novel, and getting slapped in the head by Jang Jeyeol, the looks of innocence he expressed perfectly fitted the image and cuteness of a high-school student, garnering him attention.

The second episode broadcasted on the 24th saw the acting of D.O evolved from one of naivety and brightness to one of moodiness. He excitedly waved hello to Jang Jeyeol at his fanmeet, and was also pushed back and forth by Jang Jeyeol's fans. As an EXO member, D.O. who has the highest popularity, acted out scenes which were opposite of his actual life.

Before the drama debut, Han Kangwoo's personality was always a mystery. There was a mysterious scene in the second episode where he wore a school uniform awaiting Jang Jeyeol. A difference from his previous behaviour of looking after Han Kangwoo, Jang Jeyeol ignored Han Kangwoo who was following him. Han Kangwoo closely chased along with his bicycle and Jang Jeyeol did not stop his car. 

In the drama, D.O. attracted everyone with his cute appearance, gave a solid acting performance with his stable pronunciation. As his debut act was to have a role with Jo Insung, there were concerns even before the broadcast, but, after the broadcast of two episode, besides having the worries vanish, he also displayed potential as an actor. D.O. played the role of Han Kangwoo well, which also raised expectations that the viewers have towards future interactions between the characters.

@dhebbie2t yeah... this tread dedicate to Do Kyung Soo as an actor not singer... And please cheer this tread too as much as possible... Kyung Soo make an unforgettable debut, so lets support him together ^^

Just want to share a little about his acting debut.
At first I didn't want to see this drama, except for Kyung Soo, every time I want to see it, I'm holding back, I don't like the female lead actually. but last night Kyung Soo made me see this drama... I just watched Kyung Soo part and I got attracted to him already as an actor. On 1st-3rd episodes, I didn't see his acting much, just very short time act. But at 4th episode, I fall for him again, fall for his acting... The last scene gave deep impact on me, It beautiful, and warm scene I feel ever. When he and JIS together I can feel such deeper connection more than any connection on that drama... the running scene, I can feel my blood flow with his running pace... I can't even tell clearly how I feel.

Right now, without saw that drama completely, I know how the story goes. And for the poster teaser when our five man lead hugging each other, I know what it mean, everyone give 'front hug' to JIS except our Kyung Soo, he's shadow (Hallucination JIS made, I think). It will be interesting to see how important Kyung Soo role here actually.

IOTL's: Short but Intense, New "Acting-dol" is Born!

Although D.O. only appeared shortly in IOTL, he is being recognised as an acting-dol for captivating audience's attention with his acts of showing anger and crying.

The episode for IOTL broadcasted on the 7th showed a scene where HKW (Do Kyungsoo) and JJY (JIS) went home together. While returning home, HKW witnessed his father assaulting his mother, upon which he, in shock, shouted and ran towards his father. Despite him trying to fight his father, he ended up being beaten up. As HKW picked up the rock while staring angrily at his father, JJY appeared to calm HKW's emotions, saying "Kangwoo wake up, get your mother and run". HKW's eyes were filled with tears of rage but he eventually took JJY's advice and ran away.

D.O., despite having few lines, perfectly portrayed the emotions of rage with the look in his eyes and his expressions. Although his appearance was only a mere 10 minutes or so, D.O acted as if HKW had taken over his body, which was a stark contrast to his cuter appearance in the earlier episodes, and raised the expectations that the general public had towards HKW. All these may be the crucial factors to overcome the earlier doubts towards his acting, giving the green light to the emergence of an acting idol.

Actor Jo In Sung explained that he comfortably acted a person who could see illusion.

A press conference for SBS drama <It’s Ok, It’s Love> was held at Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, in Seoul on August 6. At the event, lead characters Jo In Sung, Gong Hyo Jin, and Lee Gwang Soo attended.

In the drama, Jo In Sung meets his fanboy Han Gang Woo (played by EXO’s D.O) which turns out to be only his illusion. He said “It wasn’t that complicated to act since I could see Gang Woo”.

At the end of episode 4 aired on July 30, it was revealed that Han Gang Woo was actually part of Jang Jae Yeol’s self-reflection. When Jang Jae Yeol and Han Gang Woo ran together, the drama only showed Jang Jae Yeol running implying Gang Woo is actually non-existent and presented hair-raising scene.

Jo In Sung said “I acted as thinking that I have a younger brother whom I can share my feelings with. When I thought D.O is just an adorable sibling, I could naturally act. D.O and I have 12 years of age gap.”

In the drama <It’s Ok, It’s Love> is a romantic comedy portraying Jang Jae Yeol, a best-seller novelist and a host of radio show, falling in love with Ji Hae Soo, a psychiatrist  who looks aloof but has warm heart. The drama airs Wednesday and Thursday at 10pm on SBS.

Korean Film 'Cart' Officially Invited to Toronto International Film Festival



The movie ‘Cart’ has received an official invitation to Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)’s ‘City to City’ section. With this occasion, the movie’s distribution company has released it’s international poster.

The movie tells the story of a department store employee who got fired unfairly. The poster presents Seun Hee (interpreted by Yeom Jeong Ah), mother of two children, the only member of the family that brings money home, during the morning assembly of the employees, with a tired and gloomy look on her face.

This year it will be the 39th edition of TIFF, one of the most famous film festivals in the world, together with those from Cannes, Venice and Berlin. Every year, the ‘City to City’ section designates a representative city and presents to the public the artistic view of movie directors who actually live in those cities. For 2014, Seoul has been designated as representative city.

‘Cart’ is currently in post-production works and will premiere somewhere around the end of the year.

The female MC asked what they think of D.O's acting and the male MC said he didn't know he's an idol at first. During the scene with Jo insung when he's running, crying and laughing tgr, those expressions... It's very difficult/complex acting. He thought he's some newbie actor. And they concluded SM has a birth of an acting-dol!
