Jung Joon-young (Hangul: 정준영 Hanja: 鄭俊英 born February 21, 1989) is a Korean rock singer, songwriter and radio DJ, who was born in Indonesia, but raised in China, Europe (England and France) and the Philippines. Jung has lived in ten different countries because his father was an international business man. He had a lonely childhood but learned how to speak five different languages such as English, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and Korean.

When he taught songs to the children in Philippines at the age of seventeen, he started his dream to be a rock star. He went to South Korea at the age of 19 and assembled his own band "Flowermist" (later "Switch-on") and performed in amateur club theatres as well as busked on the streets in Japan. To achieve his goal of becoming a rock star he worked as a model and appeared on television.

Jung Joon-Young finished in third place on Superstar K4 and since then he has been doing concerts, TV and radio programs(as a guest or a host) and modeling for cars, clothes, games and N-screen. From May 6, 2013, he worked as a DJ for MBC FM4U Close Friend until September 1, 2013. He has appeared on several TV shows including KBS2's "Immortal Song-Singing the Legend 불후의 명곡", "Happy Together 해피투게더" and MBC's "We Got Married 우리결혼했어요" and has been emerging as a versatile entertainer recently.

After signing with CJ E&M, Jung Joon-young released his first debut single "Spotless Mind (병이에요)" with two versions of Music Video(N version and S version) on Oct 01, 2013 and immediately made an impact on the country’s charts. Just an hour after release, “Spotless Mind” nabbed the top spot on Mnet, Bugs and Soribada etc.

Seems like the rocker known for his quirky “4D” personality has gone for a unique way of promoting his new album!

On October 4, Jung Joon Young spent his early morning with art university students, who helped him paint the tracklist of his upcoming mini album on a wall near Hongik University, Seoul. 

The project began early in the morning of October 3. The singer himself participated in painting the background, and attaching tapes to help guide the creation process, while the art students were responsible for tasks that require professional skills. 

Jung Joon Young, who became popular through ”Superstar K4,” is making his highly anticipated debut next week, on October 10. 

His mini album will consist of six tracks. The pre-release track is ”Spotless Mind,” and the title track will be ”Ten Minutes Before Breaking Up.” Other songs on the album are ”Really?” ”Be Stupid,” ”A Number I Know,” and ”Take Off Mask.”  

According to his agency CJ E&M, ”We have paid special attention to the sound of the album. In contrast to the mechanical sound that is currently in, we gathered some of the best engineers in Korea into the studio, and went for a sound that makes you feel like you’re listening to live music. Colorful rock music with a high quality sound is the core of this album.” 

In related news, Jung Joon Young will also be holding his showcase on October 10, and this will mark the beginning of his official activities as a singer. His first music show performance will be through Mnet’s ”M!Countdown” on the very same day.

Mnet "Superstar K4" finalist Jung Joon Young released his new song "Spotless Mind" and is going head to head with "Superstar K3" runner-up Busker Busker. Since both the singers are from CJ E&M, their battle for the top spot is a hot issue.

Jung Joonyoung has shown growth through his debut song. 

Jung Joonyoung released his debut song, "Spotless Mind", at midday on the 1st. 

The song maximizes Jung Joonyoung's vocal prowess. Jung Joonyoung has a slightly husky voice tone and often has a tendency to sing aggressively. During his "Superstar K4" days, he became known as the "Passionate Rocker" with his bold rock shouting method. 

However, contrary to one's expectation, the beginning of "Spotless Mind" had a soft and tender feeling. With this soft and tender feeling, Jung Joonyoung deeply expresses his emotions by immersing himself in the lyrics. 

It was refreshing to see Jung Joonyoung's intensity prior to his debut, however his control over dynamics was slightly lacking. For a deep and effective impact on the listeners, singers must have reversals in their songs. It is quite inconvenient to rock shout for 3~4 minutes. Therefore, it was always his homework to sing without force and skillfully express his emotions. 

From the latter half of the song, Jung Joonyoung's rocker instinct is displayed. Jung Joonyoung exhibits rock shouting to his heart's content with the strong drum beat. From the beginning of the song, he demonstrated a range of emotional expression. By altering the flow of the song to be more daring and energetic, he successfully avoids making the song tedious.

One aspect that would be credited for highlighting Jung Joonyoung's skill in "Spotless Mind" is its absoluteness. 

In the first half of the song, it sounds like a ballad then from the halfway mark it transitions into a vigorous rock style. Jung Joonyoung constructed an environment where he could present his various charms. Also, the song comforts the listeners with its melody that suits autumn and its lyrics that express the painful memories of love. In addition, although the octave range is not wide, one may infer that the purpose for this is to respect the listeners so that they may immerse themselves in the emotions and sing along instead of focusing on Jung Joonyoung. 

Regarding this song, the company stated, "We launched this project after much research on Jung Joonyoung's distinct characteristics, disposition, and voice tone. This song is a song that pinpoints Jung Joonyoung's charm, much like a song-version of Jung Joonyoung. The song almost completely matches his essence and it is a debut song that expresses him the best."

Meanwhile, Jung Joonyoung's album release is on the 10th. He will start his activities soon after hosting the Media Showcase.
