If there’s one thing we really miss doing right now, it’s traveling! Whether you’re wandering locally or abroad, there’s something freeing about going on adventures in places far from home. If you’re feeling the quarantine blues, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

These travel-themed K-variety shows are full of cool places and fun games that will entertain you for hours on end. Here's a list of them that you can watch on Netflix and Viu:

Traveler (2019-2020)

Who’s in it: Lee Je Hoon, Ryu Jun Yeol (season one); Ahn Jae Hong, Kang Ha Neul, Ong Seung Wu (season two)

Where you can watch it: Viu

In this reality show, actors go on backpacking trips with limited interference from the producers, making you feel like you’re really just traveling with them. The first season has Je Hoon (from our new fave, Taxi Driver) and Jun Yeol traveling to Cuba, where they must manage their own decisions every step of the way. Je Hoon doesn’t have much experience with backpacking, so Jun Yeol takes the lead. Meanwhile, our travelers in season two head to Argentina. Despite only having met for the show, the charming trio eventually becomes really close, as they enjoy the food and Argentinian hospitality, and go hiking in Patagonia.

Kang Haneul

His voice is trustworthy, and his face shows its true value in big close-ups.  Kang Haneul’s heyday with a clear and heartfelt performance has just begun

Kang Haneul’s voice shines, especially in the narration.  His beautiful voice resonates on the screen through the box office hit Twenty, his representative film Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, and the recent film Waiting for Rain, and it holds the audience to immerse themselves in the movies.  Kang Haneul’s three-dimensional face reveals endless charms when it is closed up from various angles.  As much as directors covet his voice and face, the audience becomes more joyful.

Kang Haneul is a gifted actor who has been on the course of a model student in acting.  He developed his dream of becoming an actor when he was a teenager, majoring in acting at the art high school and the university.  He was recognized first in the musical world, and his debut film is Battlefield Heroes (2010), a historical comedy directed by Lee Joonik.  He played the role of the youngest son of Yeon Gaesomun, a general in Goguryeo, and skillfully performed dialect and tearful acting, drawing attention from movie officials.  He also stood out in TV dramas.  In the original webtoon drama Misaeng: Incomplete Life (2014), Kang played the role of Jang Baek-ki, an elite new employee, who was jealous of the main character but changed into a humane colleague.  Kang Haneul was praised for playing the character vividly.

In 2015, three of his films were released in a row, strengthening the actor’s position as a movie star.  In the music film C’est Si Bon, he showed off his singing talent; in the historical drama Empire of Lust, he played a vicious character obsessed with madness; he co-starred in the youth comedy Twenty.  Through those films, Kang Haneul made his characters stand out, proving that his acting ensembles with his counterparts are excellent.  Especially, he performed a slapstick performance in Twenty, exuding whimsical charms from a pure-looking model student image.  Thanks to his character, the film depicting the ‘dark history’ of three feisty guys became a box office hit with universal empathy.  That year, Kang Haneul swept the Best New Actor at various film awards and became a youth star.

Through Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet (2016), a black-and-white film about the life of Yun Dongju, a poet most loved by Koreans, you can meet the entire charm of actor Kang Haneul.  Casting Kang Haneul, director Lee Joonik revealed, “Kang Haneul’s appearance and righteous nature resemble Yun Dongju.”  And as the director expected, Kang showed a fantastic performance where the actor and the character became one.  Appearing on a black-and-white screen from the first scene of being questioned by a Japanese detective, Kang Haneul embodied the philosophical concept of ‘shame’ of a young intellectual who lived in the Japanese colonial era.

Since then, he has shown his acting talents in genre films, including the true-story drama New Trial (2017), the action-comedy hit Midnight Runners (2017), and the thriller Forgotten (2017).  After being discharged from the army, Kang gained recognition for his performance in the TV series When the Camellia Blooms (2019), which combines romance and thriller, and established himself as a big star with explosive popularity.  Through the work, Kang Haneul’s facial expression, which is lovely and shy in front of the person he fell in love with at first sight, has become his killing signature.

Actor Kang Haneul, who has a pure and sincere acting style, is giving a great boost to Korean cinema.  Following the retro-sentimental melodrama Waiting for Rain, the action blockbuster series The Pirates 2, the star-studded romance film Happy New Year, and his solo starring thriller Streaming are lined up.  Developing his strengths steadily so far and entering his 30s, Kang Haneul’s heyday is starting now.  And it’s an honor for us to witness his era together.  Jung Yumi

  • gm4queen changed the title to Kang Ha Neul 강하늘 ♥ Best Actor (TV) @ BaekSang Arts Awards 2020 | [Upcoming Movie: Rain and Your Story / Drama 2021 : The Moon Rising River 달이 뜨는 강

*** I’ve watched his movie “Forgotten” and it just blew my mind. It’s a suspense movie. It’s scary and a violent film. It’s a brilliant film making, though. ... Koreans know how to write a twisted plot... Loses steam a bit at certain points after that police station scene, but it will keep you engaged right up to the very end. First it seems like a horror movie, the nightmares, the pills and you can't figure out what's real and what's not. It has left me puzzled and I think that if they had tried to simplify it and leave some things out, it could have been a good thriller. I was left with was just sheer confusion. It keeps you guessing who's the bad one? Well, it's still a good movie for me.  :Megathanks:

*** The competition to be the Most Sought After K-Actor in Casting Calls in this article survey on which actors are currently the most coveted among industry casting agents. Casting agents & production directors were asked which actor in 2021 currently is their no. 1 choice when it comes time to cast a project. (6) votes went to PSJ in 1st place, followed by Gong Yoo with (5) votes and then Hyunbin got (4) votes. Top 5 are Kim Soo Hyun & Kang Ha Neul who each got (3) votes. Seeing KHN slowly climbing his way up from being 2nd male lead to top most sought after in casting is really a proud moment for me. Joo Ji Hoon & Ji Chang Wook got (1) vote & other actors......... BTW, there's an actress version of this as well, too. This is interesting but there are many omissions, which surprised me, though.  :heart2beat:

10 Korean Dramas That Portray Healthy Relationships

With the landing of the Korean wave all over the world, people in the remotest places of the globe can now connect to and relate with the stories portrayed in Korean dramas. Among all the genres that K-Dramas are popular for, romance dramas are the most beloved and for good reason too! They portray beautiful relationships, very human situations and provide healing to the soul. However, the relationships shown in these dramas don't always portray happy relationships. Here are

10 Korean dramas that give us shining examples of healthy relationships!

"When the Camellia Blooms"

This drama, starring Kang Ha-neul and Gong Hyo-jin is a refreshing change in the K-Drama romance world. 9 K-Drama Couples That Have Healthy Relationships

It can be surprisingly hard to find a good depiction of a healthy relationship in a K-drama. Although the feelings might be genuine, having a strong foundation, healthy courtship, and maintaining a solid relationship is actually not common in the fictitious K-dramaland. Although we’ve visited this topic in the past (see this feature here), here are some more main K-drama couples that have pretty healthy and solid relationships.

Warning: Minor spoilers ahead!

4. Hwang Yong Sik and Dong Baek in “When The Camellia Blooms”

“When the Camellia Blooms” stars Kang Ha Neul and Gong Hyo Jin as two lovers who live in a small town. Dong Baek (Gong Hyo Jin) has a lot of baggage as a result of being abandoned by her son’s father. This doesn’t stop the enigmatic and passionate Hwang Yong Sik (Kang Ha Neul) from falling deeply in love with her and her son. Hwang Yong Sik’s infectious positivity is an attribute that Dong Baek finds solace in despite the hardships of being a single mother.

Kang Ha Neul as Hwang Yong Sik is everything. Just when Dong Baek had given up on love and swore her life to her son, Yong Sik comes into her life like a ray of sunshine. He doesn’t let her give up on love and is willing to show through his actions how much she can trust him. He makes sure to keep his distance and give her space while she tries to figure out her life and is happy just being there for her. His honesty and innocence could make anyone love him!
