Is Kang Ha Neul The Next Big Hallyu Star?

Kang Ha Neul is poised to become one of the next Hallyu stars to emerge from the cast of “The Heirs.” The actor recently received acclaim for his portrayal of folk legend Yoon Hyung Joo in the musical film “C’est Si Bon.” His role in “C’est Si Bon” came on the heels of the hit office melodrama “Misaeng,” which drew attention from young professionals in Korea who were able to relate to the perils faced by the youthful cast.

Kang portrays Kyeong Jae, a college freshman who is driven to land a prominent position at a large corporation. In character photos released on February 16, the actor can be seen holding a business education textbook while exhibiting a wistful smile. The release date for “Twenty” has yet to be announced but the film is speculated to premier in March 2015.

“Twenty” follows the release of “C’est Si Bon” which ushered in the blitz of family films for the Lunar New Year. “C’est Si Bon” highlights the actor’s vocal talent which has previously been showcased through musical theater performances including “Spring Awakening.”

The actor has a similar portfolio to stars like Ji Chang Wook, who have seamlessly segued from the stage to dramas, followed by film. “C’est Si Bon” and “Twenty” are high profile projects but Kang has also shined in projects like the 2014 supernatural film “Mourning Grave.”

While his next Korean drama role has yet to be announced, the actor will also appear in the period film “Empire of Lust.” The film which is also known as “The Age of Innocence” features a star-studded cast including Jang Hyuk (Shine or Go Crazy) and Shin Ha Kyun (Mr. Baek). Kang portrays Jin in the film, which is scheduled to open on March 5.

Upcoming film Twenty, starring Kim Woo Bin, Kang Ha Neul, and 2PM′s Junho, unveiled its main trailer and confirmed a premiere date.
The main trailer, which dropped on February 23, brought out much laughter as it focused on the story of three 20-year-old students, still stuck between being boys and men. 


Twenty confirmed the premiere date for March 25 as anticipation rises on seeing the three actors let go of their charismatic images to exchange it for hilarious ones.

Kang Ha Neul talks about his close friendship with Kim Woo Bin in an interview and also about how their friendship developed. Kang Ha Neul is in two upcoming films, “C’est Si Bon” and “Twenty,” the latter which also stars his friend Kim Woo Bin. The two were also in the television drama “Heirs” together in 2013.

Kang Ha Neul talks about the development of the friendship, revealing, “We didn’t become close while filming ‘Heirs.’ I didn’t approach him often. But we got very friendly while filming ‘Twenty.’ I gained a good friend in Kim Woo Bin.”

When asked about his Christmas plans during the press conference  for “The Technicians,” which opened late last year, Kim Woo Bin shared he was thinking of having soju with Kang Ha Neul. The two friends did meet up for drinks and Kang Ha Neul says, “There aren’t too many men I would have drinks with on Christmas Eve.”

Kang Ha Neul compliments his friend as he says, “Woo Bin is honest and says clearly what he likes and doesn’t like. I like that about him, since that’s a quality I don’t have. I’m the type to say I like things even when I don’t. Because that part of my personality is different from Woo Bin, I’ve even studied that side of him. Also, Woo Bin is just a very nice guy.”

The two actors, along with 2PM’s Junho are in the upcoming movie “Twenty.” The film is about the misadventures of three best friends as they move into adulthood. Watch the film’s comedic trailer below:
