The Biography of Kim Tae Hee

Kim Tae-Hee was born on March 29, 1980 in Ulsan, South Korea. Her immediate family consists of her parents, one older sister and one younger brother. Kim Tae-Hee's younger brother Lee Wan is also an actor. Kim Tae-Hee, known for her beauty, actually grew up as a tough young girl. In an interview on MBC TV variety program "Yoo Jae-seok & Kim Won-Hee's Come to Play," on September 13, 2010, Kim Tae-Hee stated she wasn't talkative as a young child, but fought physically with her younger brother and other boys in the neighborhood. In another interview on KBS2 TV show "The Park Joong-Hoon Show," Kim Tae-Hee stated she frequently broke glass windows and often beat up her younger brother Lee Wan as a child.

Even though Kim Tae-Hee grew up as a tough child, she received perfect scores in all of her classes throughout middle school and was also very popular with the male students. MBC cable TV program "Star Secret" discovered these facts when they pulled up her school records and also learned male students in one of Kim Tae-Hee's high school gym classes would often stand next to the window to see her and scream out her name.

In high school, Kim Tae-Hee picked up the quirky nickname "Headbanger". This nickname came about because she would often study late into the night and in class would nearly drift off into sleep and then quickly snap out of it, resulting in her head making a headbanger motion - popular with heavy metal music fans.

Kim Tae-Hee then entered Seoul National University, often mentioned as South Korea's most prestigious and most difficult to enter university, to major in fashion design. The reason she chose this major was that she admired other people who did creative work. During her college days, she was first asked to model for an ad designer who spotted her in the subway station. At this time, Kim Tae-Hee wasn't sure what she would do after college so she decided to take up the modeling work as a part-time job.

In 2000, when Kim Tae-Hee was 21, she made her debut as an ad model for the product "White" (a brand of maxi-pads). She quickly turned into a CF blue chip.

Kim Tae-Hee would then make her acting debut in the 2001 film "Last Present". In the movie, Kim Tae-Hee played the middle-school aged version of Lee Young-Ae's main female character Park Jung-Yeon. One year later, she became popular enough to land leading roles in 2003 SBS TV dramas "Screen," "Stairway to Heaven" & "A Problem at My Younger Brother's House."

Kim Tae-Hee became known for her beauty and graduating from Seoul National University. Nevertheless, her acting ability drew frequent criticisms from critics and the public. Some considered her to be the top CF star, but not a serious actress. The criticisms did hurt Kim Tae-Hee personally and made her insecure about her acting abilities. By 2008, Kim Tae-Hee took a one year break from acting. In 2009, Kim Tae-Hee made her return to acting in the KBS2 blockbuster action drama "IRIS." Initial reaction to her acting was muted, but began getting better reviews as the series went on. Ratings for "IRIS" averaged 31.9%, tops in South Korea at the time, and the show would go on to become hit across Asia. In an interview with Kim Tae-Hee, she mentioned "IRIS" director Yang Yun-Ho made a comfortable environment for her to act and, through frequent rehearsal, made her understand her character's emotions. Kim Tae-Hee believes "IRIS" marked a turning point in her acting career.

After the drama "IRIS," director Yang Yun-Ho suggested to her to take the female lead in his next movie "Grand Prix." Kim Tae-Hee would play a female horse jockey and this served to be a problem, because she was afraid of riding horses. As filming went on, she became to enjoy riding horses. But there was also other difficulties in the filming process. Lead actor Lee Jun-Ki dropped out of the film, after one month of filming, due to his required military enlistment. Actor Yang Dong-Kun was then selected as his replacement. Commercially at least, "Grand Prix" turned out to be a disappointment. The movie opened #9 during the busy Chuseok holiday weekend and would go on to sell only 168,576 tickets during its theatrical run.

In the second half of 2010, Kim Tae-Hee chose the part of Lee-Sul in the SBS drama "My Princess". In an interview with 10 Asiae, she mentioned that she likes childish things and likes to imagine about girlish romantic imagery. This is what drew her to the part of Lee-Sul in "My Princess."

One day she meets an ordinary, and pretty boring, 30-year-old man who somehow makes her fall head over heels in love with him. KTH: I am a horse lover.

MC 1: You worked with Kim Seung Woo (KSW). How you think of him?
KTH: In the IRIS series he is a strong person. That made him looked  unapproachable. When he first approached me, he is someone who likes to  repeat stuff a lot. When he is alone, he will even repeat some of the  stuff to himself.
KSW: Do you find me annoying?
KTH: No. No. I don’t find people who repeat stuff a lot annoying.
KSW: Next time when we work again, I will remember that.

MC: There is just a lot of stuff we are curious to know. You are born in 1980 right?
KTH: Yeah. I am 31.
MC 1: Really? Me too. Our birthday is only a day apart.
KSW: But you are born in 1990 though. That makes you 10 years younger.
KTH laughs.
MC 1: That is fine.
KTH: Age is not an issue. But with him, then it is an issue. (Not sure which MC she is pointing to)
KSW: Your height is 165 cm.
KTH: It is actually 162 cm.
KSW: You’re so honest.
KTH: That is because a lot of people think I am not above 160 cm.
KSW: So you’re just proving to audience you are above 160 cm? Do you have any dislike about your height?
KTH: I wish I can be a bit taller which makes me more perfect.
All the MCs laugh.

MC 1 & 2: We’re guessing KTH is blood type A.
KSW & MC3: We’re guessing KTH is blood type B.
The MCs tore open the answers on the board.
All the MCs & KSW: We’re all wrong. You’re blood type O. Blood type O people get angry easily.
KTH: There is some little stuff I get angry easily. When I was young, our family had a car we all shared. One time I wanted to use it but couldn’t find the car key. I called up Lee Wan and he said he drove it away. I was so angry I wanted to show him my fist.
KSW: So when you get angry, you show your fist?
KTH giggles.
KTH: When I was little, I use force a lot to solve problems.
KSW:  So that is how you are back then. What about now? Do you still throw your fist at people when you are angry? I guess you can’t because you’re a public figure.
KTH laughs. I just keep it to myself and swallow it if there is something that upsets me.

Then they went to the next topic on the board. It says head banging.
KSW:  What does head banging mean? Does it mean rock and roll? Or does it mean you bang your head on the desk a lot from falling asleep in class?  Yet, you still got into Seoul University?
KTH: Yeah I did fall asleep in class a lot. I stayed up late studying so the next day I get tired.
KSW: Is there a flaw or a bad habit you want to get rid?
KTH: There is one recently.
KSW: When we are filming IRIS, we see you are a food monster. You want to cut that habit!
KTH: Let’s discuss that one later. Giggles.
KSW: Is it your height you want to change then?
KTH: No that can’t be changed.

MC 2: Among the male costars in IRIS, who is most sociable or easy to start a conversation with?
KTH: Jung Joon Ho.
MC 2: Did you develop any good feelings for Lee Byung Hun when you are making the drama?
KTH: Yes. (I think she is referring to friendship, not love)
MC 2: In reality, if your boyfriend gives you a candy kiss scene, what will be your reaction?
KTH: I will accept it.
MC 2: Having so many kiss scenes with actors, who will you say have a sweet mouth*, Lee Byung hun or Yang Dong Guen?
I am not sure what they mean by sweet mouth. Maybe they are saying they have a nice mouth or saying the kisses they give are sweet.
KTH: Both have sweet mouth.
MC 2: Only can choose 1.
KTH: Yang Dong Geun.
KSW: When will you visit Lee Wan in the military?
KTH: When he asks me to.
KSW: Has he ever introduced any guy to you?
KTH: No.
KSW: How many guys have you dated after entering the industry?
KTH: 1 – 2.
KSW: When is the longest you haven’t washed your hair? Honest answer.
KTH: 3 days.
KSW: Which part of your body do you like the most? Face? Hand? Nose? Or your S body figure?
KTH laughs. She is mumbling what's S body figure? Time is up. She has no time to answer. Question panel passed to MC #3.
KTH: Some of these questions require some time for me to think.
60 second begins again.

MC #3: You are dubbed as the prettiest Korean woman. Who do you think is the most handsome Korean man?
KTH: Kim Seung Woo.
KTH was also asked which Korean actress she wants to resemble. I don’t know her English name.

Time is up. Question panel passed to MC #2.
MC #2: How is your alcohol tolerance?
KTH: I can handle one to two glasses.
KSW: You said you are a violent person back then.
KTH: When I was young, I liked using my leg as a weapon. I liked to lie on the sofa and kick Lee Wan.
KSW: Have you kicked other guys besides Lee Wan?
KTH: Yes. My neighbor guys. In one incident, a guy who is two years older than me living downstairs was making some very annoying noise with a bicycle that I could not bear. I went downstairs and punched him to the ground. His nose was bleeding. The next day I bought him a bicycle to make up for what I did.
All the MCs went wow.
KSW: Over here, it says something about shattered glass. What is the shattered glass issue all about?
KTH:  Well, Lee Wan was on my nerves one day. He ran up to the roof and hid behind some glass and made all these funny faces at me. I was so frustrated I used my leg and broke through the glass and shattered it to pieces.
KSW: Did your leg get injured?
I think she didn’t answer the question.
Then they went on talking about shows she found meaningful.
KTH:  When I was a kid, I watched a lot of documentary films. It also helped with my English. When Lee Wan came into the room, he was shocked by what I was watching. He thought he saw a ghost.MC #2 reading a question from a female fan.
MC  #2: I remember seeing KTH in a CF doing a bootie dance back in 2007. I tried to imitate her. My boyfriend broke up with me shortly afterwards.  What did I do that is different from KTH?
Then they played the 2007 CF video where KTH dances, shaking her bootie with a cell phone. The MCs went up to imitate her dance.
 KTH: You dance better than me.
 KSW: At first you said Yang Dong Geun has a sweet mouth. Did you get along with him when you are filming with him?
 KTH: In the first half, I was not very used to his acting. But I did get used to it in the second half.
 
The MCs started to ask YDG some questions.
 MC #3: Who do you think is the prettiest, Kim Tae Hee or (they named a few actresses but I don’t know their names)?
 YDG: Kim Tae Hee.
 MC #3: Which woman you keep thinking of when you are in the military?
 YDG: Kim Tae Hee.
 then they did another dance. Kim Tae Hee and Yang Dong Geun sang.
 KSW: What are your views of Kim Tae Hee?
 YDG:  I never used this term before. Kim Tae Hee is a very good co star and co worker. She alleviated a lot of my stress during the filming process.
 KSW: What are your views of Yang Dong Geun?
 KTH: He felt like a co-star I have worked before. In the beginning, I was not very used to his acting but later I did. I felt got closer to him.
 
MC: Among the guys you have dated, is there any one of them is an actor?
 KTH: (Smiles) If I say no, will you believe it?
 MC: You really did not date an actor?
 KTH saying it very seriously: Yes, I never dated an actor.
 MC: If you are interested in a guy, how will you show it?
 KTH:  If I like a guy, my face will be really obvious (she exaggerated a bit  by saying she will blush), the other party should feel it very  blatantly.
 MC: Has a man ever feel hurt because of you before?
 KTH paused a few seconds and said, "Yes." I supposedly there is.
 MC: Has a man ever kneel and cried before you?
 KTH: Kneel? Why will there be such a man?
 MC: Did a man cry before you?
 KTH: Yes
 MC: Has a man ever taken the initiative and leave you?
 KTH: To be honest, yes. Everyone was startled.
 KTH: After that person left me, I tried to salvage the relationship but it failed.  
 
The MC asked KTH who do you think is also pretty in the industry besides yourself. KTH says we all have beauty in some forms. I recently watched Shin Min Ah's drama (My Girlfriend is a 9 Tailed Fox) and I think she is pretty. MC asked her why you think she is pretty. Is it age? KTH said I like her body.
 
Then they went on talking about IRIS and Lee Byung Hun. KTH said that LBH  eyes and pantomine show a lot of expressions and feelings. Even if he does not move his eyes can talk. Later she talked about the candy kiss  scene. It was White Christmas in Japan so LBH decided to have that scene  added to the drama. She also said there was some problems finding a  candy for half a day. They ended up using a lollipop. They didn't NG  that many times but just had to refilm the scenes at different angles  several times. Because they were scarce in candies, they had to reuse  some of them by rewashing them. KTH said she proposed the scene in  episode 1 or 2 where KTH's leg was chained to the table after LBH  touched her leg. 
In the last half of the show, the MC invited  KTH's friends to the show. Her friends said that KTH is a very  hardworking and diligent person. Despite her tight filming schedule, she  was still able to attend classes and get A's on every test. Her friends  also confirmed for the MC that she did graduate from Seoul University.

KTH was asked why she cried so hysterically at 2009 award show. She said  that is because people finally recognize me as an actress. I have won a  lot of awards before like popularity award, CF award, etc but none of  which gives me a rewarding feeling. In fact she feels negative about it.  She questions whether she receives the award is due to her looks or did  she truly deserves it? 

She was asked how she planned to enter  the entertainment industry. She said she never thought of entering the  showbiz world. When she finished her career she was unsure what the  future holds for her major. She was someone who people find off the  street to do CF. One day when she was at the subway, some people gave  her business cards about joining the entertainment industry and another  fashion designer gave her her business card. Her career began just like  that. 
The MC asked her about her acting criticism she received  since Stairways to Heaven. She said some people think I am not evil  enough in that show. She received praise on everything since she was  little and suddenly she was bombarded by so many criticisms in her adult  life. Of course it was not easy for her to take. She said she did have  pressure because she graduated from a brand name university and she has  beautiful looks. The MC then asked her if you were a bit ugly, will the  road be more smooth for you? KTH said if she is a bit ugly, there might not be the possibility she will have much job opportunities. MC asked her did you watch Jang Dong Geun, Hyun Bin, Joo Jin Mo's interview? They all said having good looks give them pressure. KTH said I don't agree with that. I know my flaws. Being able to act well and have fans' recognition is good enough for me.

She was very hesitant in accepting IRIS as her project. She already made preparations in being criticized. In doing so, she will not feel that unhappy if she is attacked with harsh words. She said she never has received so much praise in her acting career. Being able to gain even such small amount  of recognition already made her feel content. The MC asked her if she can reverse the hands of time, what will she like to change? She said she hopes to learn more about acting.                                                                                                            
MC said Lee Byung Hun is very blunt sometimes with his speech. KTH said yes. His words actually did hurt me before. When I was wearing high heels, he said I look like a primitive person/ Flintstone. I am also glad in a way he dished it out early on the show.
Some of you probably remember the part she says who cares if she has kissing scenes with LBH or with YDG. She just wants to experience passionate love and stop making kissing scenes. She said this in the beginning and she is reading off of something that looked scripted so I don't know if she really meant it or not. I think an article said she  was reading off a poem she wrote so I am not too sure. 

As we all know, YDG was cast at the last minute in Grand Prix.
Tae Hee did admit she had some worries about the main guy in the movie  because he is supposed to act like a prince charming and she worries he can not bring it out.

Host: How did you end up working with KTH?
YDG: I received a text from the director to work with her and I agreed.                                  

Host: What do you do during break? 
KTH: Catching up and meeting up with friends to have dinner and go biking
Host: How are you like in your 20s?
KTH: I am king of impulsive. I will just charge ahead and plunge into things without looking back. Host: What do you think of KTH?
YDG: Quiet, reserved. When we eat dinner together, she is quiet throughout the whole time. 

Host: How do you feel about YDG? 
KTH: There is nothing I really care about him. (Joking)

Host: After the show is over, will you leave contact info?
KTH: Yes, of course then we can frequently keep in contact. 
YDG: The type of frequent contact you are thinking is not the same as what I think. 
Host: O you guys mean dating. (Joking)

Host: What happen if you have rumors with KTH? What happen if KTH expresses some feelings to you?
YDG: I want to marry her. 

Host: How is your alcohol tolerance?
KTH: I can handle 4 glasses of wine.

Host: Do you have any hangover effects?KTH: I become more sentimental of a person. If I hear anything said that is touchy, I will cry. 

Host: Have you called up your ex and cried to him after drinking?
KTH: No (Joking)Host: Was there any incident that caused you to break down and cry?
KTH: When filming IRIS. I took an artistic break from filming for a year. I had a lot of stress and pressure. We had a drink one night and the director said that if I do well in the drama, then all will go well. I didn’t find it funny. I went back to the hotel and cried. The next day, I went up to the director and the director said he was just joking. When I bumped into LBH, he asked whether I cried and I just started to break down into tears. I consider myself a strong person. Maybe I sound like I am boasting myself.

I haven't been on Soompi close to a week yet this topic jumps three whole pages. You gals are doing a fabulous job at keeping the love for Rain and Kim Tae Hee alive! There may not be many supporters now except us, but I have a good feeling that people will eventually realize how amazingly compatible BiHee / BiKim truly are and come to love them as well.

To avoid interruption, I am resuming the updates of Rain's activities since his discharge.  After his Mentholatum promotions in China, he was invited to make a special guest appearance on the final round of Chinese show "Honam"  (Super Boy) a TV's popular live audition program on Sept. 27, 2013. Said program was seen by more than 400 million people in China last year.

In China, singer Rain (his real name, Jung Ji-hoon) made the local audience and TV viewers go wild by making an appearance on a famous TV audition program.

 

Rain sang his hit song 'Hip Song', making a guest appearance on the final round of the program, '快樂男聲' (Quairangsung) that was broadcast live on the afternoon of last 27th. (local time)

 

Sporting his white jacket and sunglasses, Rain heated up the stage by showing off his stunning and charismatic stage presence. When Chinese fans filling the studio saw Rain, who had been rarely seen in public recently, singing passionately with their own eyes, they went wild at the performance.

 

After his performance, Rain greeted his fans, speaking fluent Chinese, and then he introduced the finalists to the audience, which attracted attention.

 

' 快樂男聲' (Quairangsung) has been one of the most popular audition programs since it began in 2004. It is '快樂男聲' (Quairangsung) that has catapulted the audition participants 'Leeuichun' and 'Sangryuhap' to superstar status.

' 快樂男聲' (Quairangsung) has been popular among fans due to its star-studded guest list and the large scale of its investment programme.

 

In particular, the program seen by more than 400 million Chinese people in last season's final, was biggest-ever audition event. It has received more attention than ever before due to the current appearance on the final round of Rain viewed as a leader of Hanryu.

 

Before this, Rain met his thai fans at Sonic Bang, the biggest music festival in Thailand, last August 24th and thereafter he did a commercial promotion in China's Shanghai last September 2nd.

 

Meanwhile, Rain will hold a fan meeting at Kyunghee University's Peace Hall on October 12th at 4:00pm. Three months after his discharge last July 10th, he's going to make his first public appearance at the fan meeting. As he is to meet his domestic fans for the first time in a while, it is expected that there will be a medley of his hits and many interesting programs during the fan meeting.

I could think of some possibilities, though. 

1.   At every Rain's concerts, there is a special designated seat for KTH. (hmmmm, there goes without saying, right?)

If she chooses to stay up at the seating gallery, she can blow the vuvuzela, shake the pom-pom, to cheer her bf while he sings his heart out and dance to the delight of all his fans and his gf. Here is the possible picture:

2.   If there is photoshoot, it is an unwritten rule that a distance be kept between KTH and her male counterparts. If Rain is not physically present to check the distance, the men are presumed to be imaginative, i.e. of the imaginery Rain sandwiched in between. This is the likely picture   =))

Hot Dude Of The Day: Rain Travels Around The World With Dapper MCM Accessories

So Rain is basically a pop singer GOD in Korea (and in our office, too). He’s kiiiinndd of like our Justin Timberlake. He sings, he dances, he acts, he even cares about FASHUN just like JT (his clothing line is called Six to Five. Obvi you can’t read anything on the site unless you know Korean, but STILL.) So we’re WELL AWARE of his hotness and his, um, ability to seduce us.

Luckily, Rain’s fans (who call themselves Clouds! AWWWW.) posted his latest campaign with German accessories house MCM, which OOZES of luxury travel. We can just imagine him rocking all of the next looks in different cities around the globe.

In his first ensemble, he’s totally Manhattan-ready with huge TRUNKS full of outfits for his weeklong stay in a Soho hotel. (What? The guy needs OPTIONS.) His studded leather vest makes him downtown cool, but it’s not too heavy for his summery long-sleeved white tee and cuffed khakis outfit. He finished his look with some comfy burgundy sneakers, which is perfect because, um, hello, you walk EVERYWHERE in NYC, and he’s being totally practical AND cute. The only bling is his amazing platinum watch and the sheen from his perfectly combed hair. With a vest that intricate, it’s best to keep it simple!

Next, Rain is off to Brazil in his smooth buttery-beige leather jacket, white tee, khakis, and printed high-top sneakers. This outfit screams South American adventure. He could go from off-roading in Jeep through the uncharted mountainous terrain and then directly to the poshest nightclub in the city and never bat an EYE at the possibility of switching up his outfit. We’re in to the all-around accessibility of this ensemble. Oh, and Rain’s all-around hotness.

Rounding up his tour around the globe, he lands in Italy. Of course this means he has to bust out ALL the high-end shiz he’s been holding back in these other cities. He’s got literally every type of luggage in existence (even including a leather DOG, apparently) and arrives ONLY in a black three-piece suit with a mauve tie and matching pocket square. In fact, he’s so EXHAUSTED from carrying all of his designer clothes into the hotel lobby, he takes a breather among all of his luggage (because he refused to sit on their nappy non-designer couch, obvi) before he heads up to his penthouse. Even though he’s sweating, no one can tell and his hair still looks flawless.
