/ How China’s Love for Alien TV Comedy Lifted Kospi Stocks By Celine Ge and Sharon ChoAugust 19, 2014 3:44 AM EDT9 What do an alien love story, a boy band and the card game baccarat have in common? They’re helping to attract record numbers of Chinese tourists to South Korea -- a boon for the $1.3 trillion economy and astock market enjoying its third year of gains. Visitors from China rose 54 percent to 2.7 million in the first half, enticed by Korea’s hit television series “My Love from the Star,” K-Pop singers and an expanding casino industry. The influx of Chinese shoppers is helping shield Korea’s economy from a stronger won and boosting President Park Geun Hye’s efforts to leverage pop-culture success into thriving fashion, cosmetics and services industries. Amorepacific Corp. (090430), the face-cream maker whose ads include the female lead from “My Love,” surged 105 percent this year through yesterday, while Hotel Shilla Co. (008770), which got 76 percent of sales from Chinese visitors in 2013, rose 92 percent. The success of “My Love” in China is the latest sign of Korean pop culture’s growing appeal overseas, after rapper Psy’s viral music video “Gangnam Style” and hits from K-pop bands such as Big Bang, which appeared in a Korea Tourism Organization ad called “Imagine Your Korea” and attracted 114 million views to their “Fantastic Baby” video on YouTube.Chinese President Xi Jinping drew applause from students in Korea last month after citing “My Love” in a speech on ties between the two nations, the Xinhua News Agency reported. Views of the series, a romantic comedy about a beer-guzzling Korean actress in Seoul and a handsome alien who landed on Earth 400 years ago, have climbed to almost 2.7 billion on Chinese video-streaming site iqiyi.com.The show “got Korean drama booming again in the China market,” said Mike Suh, head of global business for CJ E&M Corp., a Seoul-based media and games company. It plans to co-produce two Chinese language movies this year, he said. Top Performers Ji Jing, a 25-year-old from Beijing, traveled to Korea this month to visit filming locations for the show and buy cosmetics worn by the lead actress, Jun Ji Hyun. She said the strengthening Korean won, which trades about 0.9 percent away from a six-year high against the dollar, was no deterrent.“I saved money for this trip,” Jing said. “I’d like to visit again.”

Posted by Haley Hwang at Saturday, August 30, 2014Kissing is on the minds of many drama fans lately! A “Showbiz Korea” news clip that aired this week highlighted “Unique Kisses From Dramas & Music Videos.” See the great news clip below that highlights the most memorable kissing scenes from “Secret Garden,” “King of High School,” “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” “My Love From the Star” and “Love Rain.”

And keep reading to find out which top stars you think have the most kissable lips!

Last month, we asked you to let us know which stars you thought have the most kissable lips. And you didn’t hold back in letting us know your favorites. We couldn’t include every name that was given to us, but we tried to include the top 12 stars that you felt have the most kissable lips. See if you agree with other Viki fans!
Kim Soo Hyun
Ever since “My Love From the Star” made this young actor into a major star, you can’t get enough of Kim Soo Hyun and his chiseled good looks. Don’t miss his sweet, juicy lips in “Dream High” and “The Moon Embracing the Sun” also!

Kim+Soo+Hyun+lips.pngJun Ji Hyun (Gianna Jun)
Jun Ji Hyun rose to stardom after her film “My Sassy Girl” became the highest-grossing comedy of 2001, but her role in the 2014 drama “My Love From the Star” escalated her to superstardom, with fans causing a worldwide shortage of the lipstick color she wore in the drama! You also can enjoy those beautifully polished lips in “White Valentine.”

photo my-love-from-the-star_zpspdxsyctv.jpgThe Unforgettable 'My Love From The Star"

The smash hit from 2014, My Love From the Star, starring Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun, is still popular and talked about not only in Korea but in other parts of the world.

Kim Soo-Hyun portrays an alien from the Joseon Dynasty who is stuck on Earth and is known to be cold-hearted towards humans and women in general. However, after several encounters with top star Cheon Song-Yi he starts to fall in love. The idea of a cute alien and a hilarious top star together is more than enough of a reason to watch the drama but the coupling of Kim Soo-Hyun and Jun Ji-Hyun make this drama a light-hearted comedy for all viewers.

Proving its worth of a drama not only to the viewers but also to the panel of judges they received first place in the Excellent Korean Drama Category.

However, not only was the plot of the drama wonderful but so was the acting and music and it was proven through the obtainment of awards in these categories: Outstanding Korean Actor (Kim Soo-Hyun) and Outstanding Korean Drama OST (Lyn's 'My Destiny').

Now that the award season has just begun many are looking foward on how many more awards My Love From The Star will recieve.

Although the drama has ended the love for the show and characters will never dissappear.

If you still haven't seen this popular Korean drama, My Love From The Star is still available to watch (with English subtitles) on Dramafever!

hh-800x450-800x450.jpg

It has just been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that the hit drama series “Man from the Stars” (also known as “My Love From Another Star”) has an American version in the works by broadcast station ABC.

As you probably already know, the original Korean version had 21 episodes and aired between December 2013 and February 2014. Starring Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun, the drama was a huge hit in Korea and all over Asia, especially China.

“ABC’s take is described as epic supernatural love story about a world-famous pop star, Lark, and her anti-social neighbor, James, who happens to be from another planet. Disillusioned by the pettiness of human nature, and a resident of Earth for the past several hundred years, James has a centuries-old rule that he will never use his abilities to intervene in the lives of the people around him. But when he gets a premonition that the infuriatingly self-centered but compelling Lark is going to be murdered, James finds himself drawn into her chaotic life and falling deeply in love — just as he finally has the chance to return to his home in the stars.”

The original writer of the drama Park Ji Eun will be an executive producer alongside HB Entertainment’s Moon Bomi. This US remake by ABC will be produced by  HB Entertainment and EnterMedia Contents in association with Sony Pictures Television.

This adds to the trend of Korean shows being remade for American audiences. It was also recently announced that broadcasting station CBS was working on a remake of “Good Doctor” and NBC was working on a remake of “Grandpas over Flowers.”

What do you think of an American remake for “Man from the Stars”?

ABC Adapting Hot Korean Drama 'My Love From Another Star' (Exclusive)
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/my-love-star-abc-remake-733887
The format is a hit in China and Korea, where it has set viewership and streaming records

my_love_from_another_star_promo_art.jpg

The network has handed out a script commitment with a penalty attached to a remake of the Korean hit, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Based on the Korean format, My Love explores why a superhero has to save the world and asks why he can't save just one girl. ABC's take is described as epic supernatural love story about a world-famous pop star, Lark, and her anti-social neighbor, James, who happens to be from another planet. Disillusioned by the pettiness of human nature, and a resident of Earth for the past several hundred years, James has a centuries-old rule that he will never use his abilities to intervene in the lives of the people around him. But when he gets a premonition that the infuriatingly self-centered but compelling Lark is going to be murdered, James finds himself drawn into her chaotic life and falling deeply in love — just as he finally has the chance to return to his home in the stars.

Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain (CW's The 100, 666 Park Avenue, The Vampire Diaries, Dollhouse) will pen ABC's adaptation and exec produce. Ji-eun Park, creator of the original series, is on board to executive produce alongside Bomi Moon from the flagship's producer HB Entertainment, which owns the format. The ABC adaptation will be produced by HB Entertainment and EnterMedia Contents in association with Sony Pictures Television. EnterMedia Contents' Sebastian Lee and David Kim will also produce.

Airing in December to February in Korea, the fantasy romance earned star Jun Ji-hyun the highest award for TV at this year's Baeksang Arts Awards. The series ranked as Korea's favorite program in a Gallup Korea poll in February after captivating an average viewership of 24 percent. The show drew record viewership in Korea and China, where it became one of the most-viewed streaming shows on Chinese platform iqiyi, collecting more than 2.5 billion streams during the three-month window.

The show's viral appeal also ignited food, fashion and book crazes in China, with fans of the series rushing out to buy clothing, snacks and literature featured in the series.

Writing duo Craft and Fain are repped by Bloom Hergott.

This marks the latest Korean format to be adapted stateside this development season. CBS is also developing a medical drama based on the South Korean series Good Doctor and NBC is readying an unscripted show based on Grandpas Over Flowers.
