10 Things about K-dramas that make no sense (but we love anyway)

by Lauren Jinkerson on Thu, Apr 16, 2015

Ever have that moment when you're watching a K-drama and you think "wait....what just happened?". Sometimes our eyes are strained from all the rolling and our voices hoarse from all the screaming. But some of the things that make the least sense (I'll use piggyback rides to the hospital as an example) are the things that make us the most deliriously happy when it happens on the screen. Here are 10 things in K-dramas that we often find ourselves rolling our eyes at but that we secretly love.

8. Piggyback rides

What is the obsession with piggyback rides? And why do so many K-drama characters think of it as a convenient form of transportation? Sometimes a character gets hurt and needs some help. Other times it's because a character is too drunk to walk. But often I feel the character gets drunk or hurt just so that there can be a piggyback scene to bring more romantic tension to the K-drama.

I like that there's an autistic character. I hope it will bring more awareness to it. Just started watching when a friend recommended knowing I have AS and would be interested. So far so good.

The adaptation is finally happening

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/bates-motel-star-freddie-highmore-topline-abcs-david-shore-drama-979368

A&E's Bates Motel just kicked off its final season but star Freddie Highmore is already plotting his next move.

Highmore has been cast as the lead in ABC's medical drama pilot The Good Doctor, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Based on a South Korean format, the drama centers on Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with Savant syndrome who is recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. The question will arise: Can a person who doesn't have the ability to relate to people actually save their lives?

Highmore will star as Murphy, a young man with autism, who is awkward at the best of times, isn’t good with social interaction but possessed of an engaging honesty and directness. A medical savant, Shaun has survived a troubled childhood to become a talented doctor. Unable to access emotions but brilliant and intuitive when it comes to medicine, Shaun is up for his first job as a surgeon at the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital, where his mentor and good friend, Dr. Ira Glassman, supports his hiring with passion and determination.

The role marks Highmore's follow-up to Norman Bates in A&E's Psycho prequel series Bates Motel, which just kicked off its fifth and final season Monday with Rihanna in the famed Marion Crane role. Repped by UTA, ARG and Fred Tozcek, Highmore's credits also include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and August Rush. The actor has also directed (and written) multiple episodes of the A&E drama and has developed with Bates co-showrunner Kerry Ehrin.

The Good Doctor is being written by House's David Shore, who exec produces the Sony Pictures Television drama alongside Daniel Dae Kim, Sebastian Lee, David Kim and Erin Gunn; Lindsay Goffman serves as co-exec producer.
