Couple stills of Sword and Flower’s tragic loversby javabeans | June 10, 2013 | 1 Comment

swordflower2.jpg

Here we go, folks, the first stills of our leads of upcoming epic romance-revenge sageukSword and Flower. Playing the fate-crossed lovers are Uhmforce, aka Uhm Tae-woong(Equator Man), and Kim Ok-bin, who’s returning to television a much better actress than when she left it (her last drama series was 2006′s Over the Rainbow; she’s been doing films since then, like The Front Line and Thirst).

Uhm Tae-woong plays the illegitimate son of famed general Yeon Gaesomun (played byChoi Min-soo, pictured below right), while Kim Ok-bin plays the daughter of Goguryeo’s King Young-ryu (Kim Young-chul, below left). The fathers are enemies, the king and his family are killed by Yeon’s side, and the princess embarks on a revenge mission. Too bad there’s that whole romance angle to complicate matters, leaving our hero torn, wanting to protect her despite knowing she hates him for his family’s actions.

I would have preferred to wait for the pretty versions of these stills with colorful backgrounds edited in, because these studio shots always look so dry. They don’t convey the same excitement as the drama’s first poster, which is a lot more evocative of the drama’s revenge and its sword-and-flower motif. The titular flower is supposedly representative of love, to stand as the contrast against the sword of hate.

Also cast is Ohn Joo-wan (Twelve Men in a Year), who plays Kim Ok-bin’s cousin. He has particular fondness for her, but he receives “an offer he can’t refuse” from General Yeon and ends up betraying his royal family. As reward, he is made the next king (and Goguryeo’s last), Bojang—but then realizes that he’s nothing but Yeon Gaesomun’s puppet and faces off against him.

I think the jury’s still out on whether that’s a mane of glory or a mane of shame Uhmforce is sporting, because I can’t decide. On one hand, he wears the grizzly look well. On the other, there IS a certain very faint mop-ish quality to that wig that I can’t quite get over. I think we’ll have to see it in action—and from the looks of it, we can expect plenty of action. Here’s to hoping that the fierce fighting heroine gets a hefty slice of it. No reason the boys should have all the fun.

Sword and Flower airs on KBS on Wednesdays and Thursdays, premiering July 3.

CN Blue pretty boy, Lee Jung-shin

photo318283.jpg

Lee Jung-shin transformed into a Kokuryo manly warrior.

On the new KBS 2TV drama "Knife and Flower", Lee Jung-shin takes on the role of a secret warrior named Si-woo.

In the picture revealed, Lee Jung-shin has hair down and his clothes look plain. The pretty boy from CN Blue is nowhere to be seen but only the rebellious looking Lee Jung-shin. His tall height and strong eyes make him look the character he needs to be.

Si-woo is an orphan who wandered the streets before joining a secret group under So Sa-bun (Kim Sang-ho). He doesn't criticize his situation but says anything and everything he wants to say when he wants to. He is also outstanding in martial arts.

He is also in love with King Yeong-ryu's daughter Moo-yeong (Kim Ok-bin).

Meanwhile, "Knife and Flower" is a mellow drama about two people who fall in love although in ill fates. The tragedy occurs when King Yeng-ryu's (Choi Min-soo) daughter Moo-yeong falls in love with his enemy's son Yeon-choong (Eom Tae-woong). To be aired on the 3rd of July at 10PM.

CNBlue‘s bassist Lee Jung Shin has been cast in his second drama after the national hit, “My Daughter, Seoyoung.” He joins Uhm Tae Woong and Kim Ok Bin in the upcoming KBS drama, “Sword and Flower.”

Lee Jung Shin will play the role of martial artist Si Woo. Si Woo is a “pure” character who is normally charismatic but is infinitely romantic to his beloved Mu Young, daughter of King Young Ryu and played by Kim Ok Bin. He protects her like a shadow and has only loved her his whole life. He spent his childhood as a orphan roaming the streets but was later picked by the leader of King Young Ryu’s secret organization (called Geum Hwa Dan). Si Woo grows up to a skilled martial artist and possessing a straightforward personality and an eye for artistic beauty.

The stills released show Lee Jung Shin is his role, sporting long hair and holding a fan. His character, Si Woo,  is described as a “romantic assassin.”

CNBLUE’s Lee Jung Shin will be transforming into the Koryo dynasty assassin, Shi Woo, for a upcoming KBS drama, Sword and Flower. Shi Woo’s character is an orphan who is brought in and raised by So Sa Bun, the leader of a secret gang for King Yeongryu. However, Shi Woo is not pessimistic about his status and is blunt in his actions. Despite his rough and mischievous appearance, Shi Woo has outstanding skill in martial arts and has an eye for beauty.

Sword and Flower is a melodramatic story of a man and a woman who fall in love despite their different fates, a classic Romeo and Juliet tragedy, mixed with Korean history. The first episode will air on July 3rd.
