Original Netflix Korean drama ‘Love Alarm’ starring Kim So-hyun to be released in August

Netflix has finally announced the release date of its Korean original series Love Alarm starring Kim So-hyun, Song Kang, and Jung Ga-ram. The series will be made available in over 190 countries beginning August 22, 2019.

The show’s title refers to an app that alerts people when someone who likes them is within a 10-meter radius from their location. The drama is based on a popular webtoon of the same name by Chon Kye-young, one of South Korea’s most famous cartoonists.

Kim So-hyun (Radio Romance) plays the protagonist, a high schooler named Kim Jo-jo whose cheerful personality hides the fact that she is an orphan living with her aunt’s unpleasant family. Jo-jo gets involved in a love triangle with two of her classmates, played by Song Kang and Jung Ga-ram. Song (The Liar And His Lover) plays a typical starved-for-love heir from a wealthy family who takes an interest in Jo-jo when his best friend, played by Jung (Mistress), develops a crush on her. Song Geon-hee, who was last seen in SKY Castle, will also be seen in the show as a young idol star.

With a cast bursting with fresh and innocent charms, Love Alarm is expected to become popular among both Korean and international fans of the teen romance genre.

A still image of Kim So-hyun and Song Kang was also recently released. The two actors are shown intensely staring at each other as the people around them go about their business. Well, nothing signals a good romance as stopping in the middle of a busy staircase just to stare at your crush!

Directed by PD Lee Na-jeong of Fight For My Way, Love Alarm is the third original Korean drama of Netflix.

The first stills have been released for Netflix drama Love Alarm starring Kim So-hyun (Radio Romance), Song Gang (When the Devil Calls Your Name), and Jung Ga-ram (Mistress).

The drama is an adaptation of a popular webtoon with the same name, about high school romance complicated by an app that can read people’s feelings. Adding a level of transparency to romantic interactions, the app sounds notifications whenever someone who likes you is within 10 meters of distance.

The newly released stills feature the main cast in their school uniforms and give us a glimpse of the story to come.

Kim So-hyun plays the central character of Jo-jo, who is described as having a bright and spirited personality despite a somewhat lonely and difficult life. She finally gets her first break from life when, one day, she runs into Sun-oh (played by Song Gang) by chance and they both receive “like” notifications on their apps.

As a popular student, the son of a famous actor, and a model himself, Sun-oh often receives the “like” alarms go off on his phone. But, encountering Jo-jo was the first time that he caused a “like” to pop-up on the other person’s end. And he starts to pursue a relationship with Jo-jo earnestly.

However, of course, someone else has secretly been crushing on Jo-jo and he is Hye-young (played by Jung Ga-ram) – Sun-oh’s best friend of 12 years. Out of loyalty for Sun-oh, Hye-young tries to take a step back and keeps his feelings concealed. But, watching Jo-jo and Sun-oh grow closer is easier said than done.

Directing for the drama is PD Lee Na-jung (Fight My Way), and working together on the scripts are writers Lee Ah-yeon and Seo Bo-ra. Netflix drama Love Alarm is currently set to premiere next month, on August 22.

What You Need To Know About The Upcoming Romantic K-Drama, 'Love Alarm'

Social media applications are an important part of our everyday lives that even ~finding love~ online is a possibility! Love Alarm, an upcoming *next-generation* Korean drama, tackles just that. Here's what we know about the high school-centered series from Netflix so far:

1. It features a mobile application that tells you if someone has a crush on you.

The app, called Love Alarm, sends you a notification if there's anyone within a 10-meter radius who likes you. It quickly becomes a social phenomenon upon its launch, and everyone ends up using it to test their love and popularity. However, Jojo (Kim So Hyun) is not "everyone," since life itself is an uphill battle for her every day.

2. Love Alarm stars newbie actors Song Kang and Jung Ga Ram as Kim So Hyun's love interests.

Hwang Sun Oh, played by newbie actor Song Kang, likes Jojo. He seems to have it all: He looks like a model and grew up in a rich family. Lee Hye Yeong, played by another rookie actor named Jung Ga Ram, is good friends with Sun Oh. He actually started liking Jojo before Sun Oh did!

We're so excited about this love triangle, which is bound to bring us all kinds of kilig and drama.

3. The male lead role was initially offered to Ahn Hyo Seop.

In 2018, Soompi reported that Hyo Seop turned down the role because of other commitments. His latest drama is Abyss, where he stars opposite Park Bo Young.

4. It's actually based on a manhwa

Based on the graphic novel by Cheon Kye YeongLove Alarm tells the story of people who use an app to find out who likes them!

5. You can catch it on Netflix starting August 22, 2019.

Since the teaser trailer for Love Alarm hasn't been released yet, you can bask in these stills from the series instead:

9 New Korean Dramas To Watch In August 2019

43d164ec747b17a419776084a908383b?s=20&d=mm&r=g Samfann   July 27, 2019

Despite the premiere of more than a dozen dramas in July, we have 9 new Korean dramas to watch in August 2019. That is still a lot, so unless you’re a god or something there’s almost no way for you to “live-watch” all of them (especially if your now-watching list is still full of ongoing series). The first week of August is welcomed by a parallel universe-themed fantasy romance series, an unusual mystery slash rom-com with orchestral members as the main characters, and a short teen drama about growing up and suffering from pain. In the second week, there’s a romantic comedy about a trio of girlfriends in their 30s and a hip hop music-themed drama (yeah, it’s really hip hop). A mystery romance series will grace our screen in the third week and finally, in the fourth week, we get another original Netflix Korean drama, a romantic investigative series about subway police officers catching a certain “Ghost,” and a thriller headlined by Im Si-wan and Lee Dong-wook. I know that you’re most likely interested to at least check out the last one.

AUGUST 22: LOVE ALARM (Netflix)

  • Genre: Teen Romance
  • Main Cast: Kim So-hyun ,Jung Ga Ram & Song Kang

The long wait is almost over because fans will finally get to see the live-action adaptation of the popular webtoon Love Alarm. It is a Netflix Korean series and when the streaming giant first announced it in January 2017, it described the adaptation as its “FIRST original Korean drama.” But in terms of release, we know that it is not the case because we already have Kingdom and My First First Love. The drama’s title refers to a mobile application that alerts users when someone who likes them is very close (within 10 meters) to their location. The series focuses on a high school student played by Kim So-hyun (Radio Romance) and how her life is affected by the app when two of her classmates—played by Song Kang (The Liar And His Lover) and Jung Ga-ram (Mistress)—develop a crush on her. The drama is directed PD Lee Na-jeong of Fight For My Way.

I read a comment on dramabean that said her character is unlikeable in love alarm. The poster read the webtoon. It kind of worries me but then again Kim so Hyun has played unlikeable characters in the past and made them winning and loveable despite the characters having deep flaws. She makes you root for even the most unlikeable characters written in paper.

@elan1: I've read the comment* you are talking about and it worries me too. Not really for being "unlikeable" (actually, I wish KSH could take more harsh/rude/bad*ss roles), but for being just the same as Lee Eun-bi in the last episodes of School 2015. And we all know LEB started being loved by the viewers and ended... that way.

Actually, just by reading the two male leads' description and that Dramabeans comment, I can figure out the whole drama. I wish I'm wrong, but guess it's time to low my expectations about LA.

Luckily, we've got no idols this time ;)

@elan1  @angrytomato  I also read this comment  but ı didn't care. Netflix really wanted Kim So Hyun for this project and waited for  her decision for a long time.So ı don't think they will do Sohyun's character unlikeable .  ( ı hope )  ( or should ı start worrying :sweatingbullets: )
