this story is about a woman (Cha-Yeon) who grows up in an orphanage with her friend Ho-Tae,

and chayeon has a child out of wedlock, but the son, Duri, becomes terminally ill.... to earn money to save her son, Cha-Yeon does whatever she needs, and agrees to marry the rich Dong-Ju who uses Cha-Yeon to create a scandal, so his current wife Seung-Hye would divorce him. Dong-Ju and Seung-Hye did not marry out of love and after endurng a difficult marriage they agree to divorce, and after divorce, Seung-Hye begins to fall for Ho-Tae who is irresponsible but charismatic in his own way.... to add complication to the mix, Yoo-Kyeong is attracted to Dong-Ju for his wealth and status, but Dong-Ju begins to fall for Cha-Yeon whom he married on paper just to get out of his marriage..... meanwhile, Seung-Hye's sister Eun-Woo is a patient at the hospital where Dong-Ju's brother Dong-Hyeon works as a medical resident....

This looks pretty exciting. I cant wait to watch Dong-Ju fall in love with Cha-Yeon. I wonder if Ho-Tae have any feelings for her? Maybe he does but since he is irresponsible he hides his feeling from her so she can go on with her life. I wonder if Dong-Ju knows up front that she has a child, I doubt it, so it proberly be a scandle when his mother and grandmother finds out. What about the wife (*Yuri finally got her a man!) what made the marriage so unbearable? I wonder if Seung-Hye is as miserable as Yuri was.

Also, isn't the younger brother the older brother of 1% of Anything?.

I like Friday Nights especially since there are two episodes back to back! Besides as you mentioned they are more provocative!

for a friday night drama this one has a pretty big budget.

the drama was filmed on saipan island. well parts of the drama.

from what i read seung-hye's love died and then she became a cold person.

and i suspect dong-ju was having a love affair w/ the actress but his family forced him to marry seung-hye?

kim ji-yeong is a great actress. very underrated.

wang bitna always plays a b!tchy character. she did in 'love sympathy' the first series of the friday night series. and she will play ha jiwon's rival in 'hwang jini' this oct. be interesting to see what her role is like in this drama.

Just finished watching the first two episode it was really great. The main actress is so beautiful that each time she came on screen I would say.... Wow she a pretty/beautiful woman. I wonder if she is a nice person in real life. I have been known to pick up with accuracy the aura of kind/good people even from still pictures. Regardless. She looks like she is a pretty nice person.

ya she's more charming as you watch her. she got married in 2004 i think, and this is her first drama since she got married so hopefully it will do well. nevermind i forgot she was in kbs dramacom 'old miss diary' last year.

for this drama, they say many of the staff memebers played cameo roles. like travel agency guide and such.

What an interesting premise this storyline has. Definitely unique although i seriously hope that this drama keeps me in tune on fridays.

love the characters so far and i agree about Kim Ji Young, she is pretty underrated but who did she marry again?

EDIT: thanks dramaok for the info. I think i mistaken her for someone else because she looks so incredibly tan in this drama. I thought she was hilarious when she came out on the YSMM episode. Who knew you can play 7 degrees of separation. I never would have thought that she was his mother.

I love the drama so far, its actually quite refreshing and im loving the dialogue. And quite surprisingly doing well in the ratings compared to the rest of the stuff that is out right now. Im very impressed.

and yes duri is really cha-yeon and hotae's son. but duri calls hotae 'uncle' not father. i'm not sure if duri knows hotae is his father. and i think chayeon and hotae were once married but they've since divorced.

yes 2 episodes back to back. starts at 9pm and ends around 11pm.

friday night dramas on sbs has always been in this format (2 per friday) since it started last year.

and usually these dramas last around 20 episodes.

Wow! thats some storyline! I thought it was the typical story.... you know... just the husband cheating with the actress. But wow! the wife cheated and the guy killed himself now everyone in sufferring!!!!! That really IS a suffocating marriage!

BTW - what happen after the bed room scandal? How did she wind up being his date? Did they come up with some kind of contract? How did the boyfriend wand up being the actress date?

ep. 1:

cha-yeon and hotae who grew up in orphanage together somehow end up as partners working all kinds of odd jobs on the island of saipan. they live together but not as lovers, and cha-yeon's son, duri, lives with them, but duri is ill and in order to have a chance for survival he needs surgery but hotae and chayeon don't have that kind of money, and even though hotae cares about chayeon and duri, he is a loser and irresponsible most of the time.... duri's father abandoned cha-yeon and duri before duri was even born.

cha-yeon tries very hard to earn whatever money she can, mainly by entertaining tourists from korea through singing, tour guides, and even massages. meanwhile a big family-owned company DS entertainment is investing money in a new movie and DS entertainment's ceo is dong-ju who comes to saipan island to watch the film shoot. dong-ju's wife of almost 10 years, seung-hye comes with him but the two are obviously unhappy together. at the resort dong-ju is warmly greeted by the leading actress of the film he's invested in, actress yoo-kyeong. dong-ju and yookyeong are actually lovers having an affair and seung-hye already knows this but won't divorce dong-ju like he wants because she wants to be responsible for a marriage that she chose years ago, at the request of her father and dong-ju's father, as a business liasion. at the time seung-hye forsake her true love who is also dong-ju's friend, and the lover committed suicide heartbroken. after this seung-hye carried on with the wedding to dong-ju, and the two have been living with guilt toward the dead, and mutual frustration with each other, in a marriage that neither is happy about. cha-yeon gets a job call to massage a vip guest from korea, and cha-yeon starts giving seung-hye massage. but cha-yeon starts going through the garabage and eats food in the room while seung-hye is not watching. dong-ju who comes by sees her eating in secret and dismisses cha-yeon as a low-life. later in a conversation with seung-hye in which dongju asks for divorce, seung-hye says she won't divorce him for someone like yoo-kyeong, and if he's desparate enough to go after someone like the masseu (chayeon) then maybe she will agree to it finallly. dong-ju airs out his frustration at his assistant who is also his long time friend.. and the assistant is worried about dong-ju's feeling of suffocation in the marriage. so the assistant gets the idea to hire hotae to seduce seung-hye so they can create proof her cheating and thus dongju can finally get his divorce without being the one to be blamed by his family.

ep. 2

so ho-tae pretends to be a doctor and treats seung-hye after she is poisioned by the assistant in secret. ho-tae then runs into seung-hye later in a bar and pretends to be interested in her.. meanwhile yoo-kyeong is frustrated that dong-ju seems stuck in his marriage and their promised future together is going nowhere.. so she goes on a yacht ride with ho-tae who helped her once when her car was stuck on the road. yookyeong thinks ho-tae is a rich doctor and doesn't mind spending time with him since dong-ju is busy without her.. on the boat ride she falls off into the water and hotae saves her. afterwards she kisses ho-tae, and ho-tae who is a long time fan of hers is smittened. seung-hye is quick and catches on that ho-tae isn't the rich doctor he pretends to be and realizes dong-ju had set him up... dong-ju gets the idea to create a scandal using cha-yeon and gets her drunk, then he undresses her and himself, and makes it look like they had sex so that next day the reporters can come and it will be all over the news. after this incident seung-hye agrees to divorce him finally and wishes cha-yeon goodluck being married to someone like dong-ju. seung-hye gets ready to leave for korea, while dong-ju has a party and announces to everyone that he's about to get a divorce, and marry his true love, cha-yeon. even though she knows this whole thing is strange, cha yeon who is desparate for money agrees to have contract marriage with dong-ju for 3 years afterwhich they will divorce, for the amount of 1 million dollars.

dong-ju and cha-yeon agree to the terms of a 3 year marriage with divorce to follow.

cha-yeon returns to korea with dong-ju, and is met with hostility by dong-ju's family from first day on....

preview ep. 4:

cha-yeon is happy to see ho-tae and duri, but she is heartbroken that she has to keep duri's identity a secret.

cha-yeon passes each day busily trying to please grandmother-in-law who sufferes from severe memory paralysis and her mother-in-law who disrepects her.

Thanks for the summaries . I am so glad the love affair with the best friend happen prior to them getting married. For some reason that lessens the impact of his sucide. But that must be miserable to be joined together under that situation. At anyrate.... They are finally freeing themselves. So they basicly going to swap mates with cha-yeon and ho-tae. This should be very intersesting!
