Jang Hyuk in Talks to Play Neurosurgeon in New KBS2 Drama

Jang Hyuk might make his return to the small screen via an upcoming KBS2drama entitled “Beautiful Mind.”

According to his agency sidusHQ, the actor been offered the lead role in the drama, but they have yet to make their final decision regarding the offer. As of now, nothing has been confirmed.

If Jang Hyuk decides to join the drama, this will mark his comeback after just three months since wrapping up “The Merchant: Gaekju 2015.”

Formerly referred to as “Dr. Frankenstein,” “Beautiful Mind” tells the story of Lee Young Oh, a cold but extremely talented neurosurgeon, who starts to show interest in love and humanity after his patients start dying in unusual ways. Lee Jong Suk and Yoo Ah In were previously in talks for the male lead, but both of them turned down the offers.

“Beautiful Mind” is expected to take over the time slot of Monday-Tuesday drama “Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul Ho” ends its run in mid-May.

Jang Hyuk, Yoon Hyun Min, and Park Se Young Confirmed for New Medical Drama

Actors Jang Hyuk, Yoon Hyun Min, and Park Se Young have been confirmed to star in KBS 2TV’s new Monday-Tuesday drama “Beautiful Mind” (working title).

On April 26, an affiliate of the drama industry stated, “Jang Hyuk, Yoon Hyun Min, and Park Se Young have been confirmed to appear on ‘Beautiful Mind’ and they will attend the first script reading on April 28.”

However, the female lead has not been decided yet. Actress Park So Dam was previously courted to play it, but she hasn’t accepted the offer yet. It is possible that the first script reading will go on without her.

In the drama, Jang Hyuk will be playing Young Oh, a genius neurosurgeon who has no sympathy whatsoever. However, when he starts noticing that his patients are dying in strange ways and he starts loving someone, he slowly grows to become a better person.

Yoon Hyun Min’s character is the complete opposite of Jang Hyuk’s character. He will be playing Hyun Suk Joo, a fellow neurosurgeon who has a lot of compassion towards his patients and is a trustworthy being for all of his friends. As you can see, Yoon Hyun Min and Jang Hyuk will be playing parallel characters.

Park Se Young will play Kim Min Jae, a colleague in the department of neurology in Hyun Sung Hospital. She graduated from a different university than her colleagues, but she is an intelligent and beautiful doctor who earned her name as the best doctor in Hyun Sung Hospital.

“Beautiful Mind” will start filming soon, and it will air in June after “Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul Ho” finishes its run.

Park So Dam Finally Confirmed As Female Lead For “Beautiful Mind”

KBS2 Wednesday-Thursday drama “Beautiful Mind” has finally confirmed their female lead.

“Beautiful Mind” previously began filming without a female lead. Actress Park So Dam was revealed to be under consideration as the female lead, but her agency responded to reports stating that nothing was confirmed.

As of May 2, Park So Dam has been confirmed to headline “Beautiful Mind” opposite Jang Hyuk. Yoon Hyun Min, Park Se Young, and Heo Joon Ho have also been confirmed as cast members. With “Beautiful Mind,” Heo Joon Ho is making his first small screen comeback in nine years, his last drama being “Lobbyist.”

Meanwhile, “Beautiful Mind” is a medical drama about a brilliant neurosurgeon who is incapable of feeling emotions until a special woman enters his life. It is slated to premiere on June 20.

Jang Hyuk updated his instagram on May 23 with the caption " Good morning" wearing a white T shirt and drenched in sweat apparently after exercising, with sunlight coming in from a window behind him. His post drew many praises from fans exclaiming how handsome and masculine he is even without make-up.

Jang Hyuk tries to read emotions in Beautiful Mind’s first teaser

Honestly, it’s amazing that Beautiful Mind was even able to make a teaser at all, what with the crazy scheduling conflicts that have been plaguing it. After finally securing a leading man in Jang Hyuk (Master of Trade—Inn 2015), KBS’s new medical drama ran into new trouble when lead actress Park So-dam (Because It’s the First Time) couldn’t confirm the series because of the chance that it might overlap air dates with her other show, Cinderella and the Four Knights. In the end she confirmed, and both Jang Hyuk and Park So-dam are due to begin shoots for the drama next week. Eep, that’s only three weeks until it has to premiere!

 

Try as they might, KBS couldn’t manage to extend current Monday-Tuesday dramaNeighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho, so the 4-episode drama short Baek-hee Has Returnedwill be the only buffer that Beautiful Mind gets before it has to hit the air. Park So-dam is conspicuously absent from the teaser below, and as far as I know, Jang Hyuk is still in China until the end of the month, so they must’ve filmed his portion remotely.
