@Biology Lesson His scenes in Thorn aka Innocent Thing weren’t very tame? And I don’t think that was a body double, but I guess I can’t be certain 100%, the scene with the wife was pretty explicit but it was dark. But of course in comparison to other k-movies yes, it was “light”. Shin Ha Hyun in Empire of lust for example, was it really necessary to show that much? I don’t even see it as scandalous but rather as boring, when they do lengthy sex scenes. I’m like, ok, can we go on with the story? :D

That's what I meant- in comparison. In Thorn the scene with the wife and the scene with the student in the school both were dark. And notice that in all scenes both women were mostly dressed. The scene with the wife wasn't so explicit, I think the (imagined?) one with the student was more explicit. But we agree that all his scenes are "light" in comparison to other K-movies, or even in comparison to scenes in the same movies- I think the most explicit that he did (after the army) was in Empire of Lust, but even that was very short and highly edited, so I'd say that would be R-rated, while the scenes of the other two actors in the movie I would rate NC-17, or soft core porn. Ick! Yeah, at a certain point, it makes you go "aren't they done yet?!" :)

In Penthouse elephant the other actors had again very explicit, kinda kinky scenes, while JH had a very sweet PG-13 scene. Same goes for Five Senses of Eros...  So it seems JH gets a certain measure of control even in those scenes, which I don't think other young actors dare to exert.

Just wanna share that I started watching My Country last night..binge watched 4 eps and slept at 2am. I was hooked. Yang Se Jong and Woo Do Hwan are great actors too. But how ridiculous was it that a sword pierced thru the captain's body and he got hit by multiple arrows and he is still alive??? Also when Hwi got hit by the arrow and it seemed like nothing happened. :D

Anyway.. I will still finish the series because the plot and cinematography is interesting.

Haven't seen much Bang Won scenes yet. Hope to see more of him in the upcoming eps.

Yes the cinematography was great. Just ignore the leads invincible syndrome and u will enjoy it

Some new tidbits from another interview released today:

Jang Hyuk was nicknamed Lee Bang-hyuk (Lee Bang-won + Jang-hyuk) after his work in 'My Country'.

----

Jang Hyuk is a well-known office worker. Even when there is no work, he will still go to office every day to register his attendance. "There are times when the agency's employees are surprised I was there too early," he laughed.

"I lived in my office for about three years when I came to Seoul because my hometown is Busan. That made the office convenient. That's still the case now. Oh, I came to work  early because I took my youngest daughter to kindergarten. Haha."

------

During the interview, Jang Hyuk was seen with his long hair behind his ears. When the reporter jokingly said, "Your hair style is beautiful," he drew laughter by saying, "I always manage my hair by applying essence frequently."

First and foremost, I love how he seems to be smiling and laughing quite a lot in his latest interviews! So happy that he’s at ease and relaxed!

Ah, so our Hyukie applies essence on his hair. I wonder when he had the urban cops/WOL bowl cuts whether he needed to apply essence then too :joy:

Love how he carries out his father duties by taking his daughter to kindy! So much love.

[Jang-hyuk] Another step forward with "My Country"

I met Jang Hyuk at a cafe in southern Seoul on the afternoon of October 27. After about eight months of filming for "My Country," he looked pleased. Jang Hyuk said, "As compared to finishing the drama, it was more satisfying that I was able to play the role of Lee Bang-won again. Also, it's a pity that I have to break up with this group of good actors and directors”.

Jang Hyuk drew attention earlier by starring as a supporting role in "My Country." This is because he has starred as the lead in a number of works. But Jang said, "I don't think many of you know that, actually I've done a lot of 'and Jang-hyuk.' This is not the first time," he laughed. He added, "It does not matter whether it is a lead or supporting role, I wanted to try this character, and it was important how I could play it" he explained.

However, Jang Hyuk showed off his presence beyond the lead role. Playing Lee Bang-won in the drama, he captivated viewers with his changing eyes and charisma. Thanks to this, he was also praised as "a reincarnation of Lee Bang-won".

"I am happy to be able to work with the character Lee Bang-won. Actually, there was one thing I asked of the director when I entered this drama. I was hoping that the scene which I sit on the throne would be pathetic, and I think it was made well because the director kept his promise. A few years ago, I was also in the movie "The Age of Innocence". The acting then was limited because it was so focused on beauty and love. It is great that I could express him in a three-dimensional way this time."

Jang also constantly talked with his fellow actors about his work for a high-quality performance, creating new ideas. Every time he gets interested and understand something new, he describes it as "fun."

"I'm still full of passion for acting. I enjoy playing new characters in my works. It's always fresh because the contents are different. And that's why it's so prolific. Since I'm not that young anymore, I hope to make more appearances and leave more behind.”

So far, Jang Hyuk has appeared in more than 40 works, including 23 dramas and 20 movies. Among them, various works such as the drama ‘Chuno’, ‘The Deep Rooted Tree’, ‘Iris 2’, ‘Shine or Go Crazy’,  ‘The Merchant’, ‘Voice’ and ‘Money Flower’ were loved by viewers. In particular, Dae-gil from ‘Chuno’ has become an inseparable character from Jang Hyuk.

"The director said at the end of ‘Chuno’ that it will be hard for me to do my next film." At that time, I knew what the story was and I worked hard. It's the same now. But it is the way people looked at me rather than trying to offset the road in ‘Chuno’. So I thought, “You can be scolded while you're working but don’t be scared. I can do it again in the next work. So instead of trying to erase it as much as I can, I'm trying to build it up step by step".

Jang Hyuk is a well-known office worker. Even when there is no work, he still goes to the office everyday to clock his attendance. "There are times when the agency’s employee was surprised I was there too early," he laughed.

"I lived in my office for about three years when I came to Seoul because my hometown is Busan. The office is more convenient. That's still the case now. Oh, actually I came to work so early because I took my youngest daughter to kindergarten. Haha."

Jang said he will also look at scripts of younger actors in his office. This is to broaden the scope of looking at works. He will also be constantly agonizing and thinking about acting even when he was resting.

"I'm always thankful for my works. The filming site is good and there are a lot of things to learn on the spot. And when you encounter a certain occupation, you get experience it and meet the people there. It's going to expand my spectrum."

At this time, Jang Hyuk was seen with his bobbed hair behind his ears. When the reporter jokingly said, "Hair style is beautiful," he drew laughter by saying, "I always manage my hair by applying essence frequently."

Jang valued self-improvement throughout the interview. Always venturing and challenging new things seemed to be his attitude as an actor. "For example, if you use the right side, you should also know how to use the left side. You have to use both sides of it. In the same reasoning, that's the way for actors to expand their genre. I think the way to improve is to keep on trying new things, and this had been my thinking since I was a rookie. You have to move forward because you don't know. It is the human nature to ponder, but even so, I have to move on."

I guess in this sense, Sidus sounds good for JH because they seem to let him have the freedom he wants and he seems to have full control of his life and his choices of roles? (At least now, at this stage from what we know.)

After having been in Sidus for so long, plus his celebrity status now, am sure he more or less calls his own shots in the company.

Also, re: social media - I remember saying in the recent interview when asked whether he has a soc med account, to which he replied he does, but he just isn't active because "he needs and deserves his own time". That to me sounded like a very firm, confident and assured answer from someone who would not let the addiction of social media or the need to please fans get to him. I think he said last time that he was hooked on IG for awhile, but I'm glad now he's made the conscious decision to practice soc med detox as necessary so that he can live his life. Unfortunately for many others (me included), we're still super hooked onto our gadgets, IG etc. so much so that we choose to interact with our phones during meals or gatherings rather than with each other.

I definitely agree, me too. Like these days without the hp cannot survive! Terrible me!

But I make it a point, no hp during meal times. Because I forbid my children to use hp during meal time, I also cannot use. :tears:

JH seemed very firm once he decided on something.

I've seen many comments talking about how most actresses in kdramas are very stiff and unresponsive in kiss scenes.

I think is the directing. I've seen not once but many times (sometimes browsing drama here and there) that the actresses kiss like a bamboo. They don't open their mouth, they stand still and with their eyes wide opened. I think this is the direction. Even some actors also, literally is just plastering their lips to their co actress that's all.

Quote

We know that JH doesn't like to do such scenes, and I noticed that his scenes are rather tame compared to other movies or even other scenes in the same movie. So it seems like he has more control over what he will and will not do. What most young actresses and actors don't have.

I think he's more tame in drama compared to movie. But that's just my guess. His kisses in drama are to me, considered tame too. I think he's very mindful of his marital status when doing kissing scenes. I read of some C actors, actresses have "complained" that (they) kiss with tongue without letting the actresses know beforehand. And some were uncomfortable.

I don't think Thorn uses a substitute, same for Frozen Flower or Forbidden Quest or Empire of Lust...unless of course their cut and paste is superbly done.

The scene with his onscreen wife in Thorn was.....can't see because it's so dark, can only hear their panting and voices. The scenes with the student (imagination) was .....can't see because it was red. But yes, JH intimate scenes are considered mild compared to what I've browsed through before.

In EOL, his scene with the prostitute was a mess. And her scene with the other guy were lengthy and uninteresting. I must say not just EOL but in those k movies that I've browsed, their sex scene is "terrible" more "put off" than anything else. If you've watched The Concubine movie, their lovemaking scenes are equally bad. K directors think that the actors/actresses have to make alot of noise to make it interesting I think?

Oh yes, Penthouse Elephant that actor seemed to be doing quite many explicit scenes. I've watched another movie he did (browsed through the movie actually) there was many lovemaking scenes and lengthy that it gets bored. I guess it's alright if the actor isn't married because he doesn't have that "burden" unlike if JH was to do such scenes like touching a woman breast, or even kissing a woman breast (I saw in Frozen Flower), I think he will have that "burden" because he has a wife + children + his parents + his parents-in-law.

Really? Brighten up can see something?? Hahaha! I just left it as it is, er...so dark, can't even see a thing. When I watched EOL that time, when the prostitute (so she was supposed to be in english subtitle) was lovemaking the other guy, my daughter happened to walk in and she exclaimed "mummy you watching porn"!! My my, got me so embarrassed and said no, it's a movie, it's a movie about korea prince. :sweatingbullets:

Yes yes, he does that. Remember in DB he mentioned that he brings his daughter to kindergarten and I guess his car might have a small tv screen because his daughter will be watching Frozen cartoon or something. And how she liked Elsa transformation or something....can't really remember details now.

Probably his wife will leave the children to his care when he's at home so that they can have father-sons, father-daughter bonding.

"Director kept his promise" again shows that the final say still depends on the Director. EOL focused on love? More on LUST.

Since he enjoyed acting so much, next time he could open a drama school. Train the new blood. Or be a Director, direct the new blood.

In my opinion, I think K reporters are still mild as in they don't bombard with personal questions unlike C reporters or T reporters. Or you probably don't see K reporters shoving their camera infront of your face when you're walking unlike the C or T reporters.

(I've been following the news of GG death because he's 1 of my fav celebrity and I cannot take it the T reporters).

He had always been manly. Even in young days he doesn't look like a flower boy unlike now, some of the actors really look like flowers. Not manly & not handsome too! But all these young girls will like.

Hey, this papa can make hotdog, can make toast, did'nt he say milo and toast? Can cook instant noodles + 1 more dish which his wife taught him, some rice cake stuff. Not bad ah. He also said he is incharge of showering his children but I think now is only the girl that needs him to bathe her. Bathing his daughter is also a good father-daughter bonding session (hahaha).

Exactly! Does he even sleep at all? He watched movie & drink beer at midnight when his children had gone to bed. Probably wife might still be awake :P (let's be adult about it), hahaha, esp if he just returned from 8 months of filming...he wakes up 2 hours earlier than everyone else to exercise. Doesn't his rope jumping wake the household up? So how much does he sleep?

Hihi I remember on youtube for Happy Together someone said he's like politician good at 90% lie, but tell it like truth.  Which is funny because also have this pure, innocent and aloof image too at times.  Sometime I think variety shows are an experiment for him to test things out like he does with acting.  Like JaeSuk said in family outing how many personality is he going to show that day.

I don't why you'd think JH doesn't use products for his hair. This is a guy that treats his body like a tool for his profession, and as his friends joked in DC, he always wears makeup when he is doing a shoot, so why are hair products so unbelievable? Also, don't forget than in one of the recent fan meetings in Japan he spent like ten minutes talking about his hair, and, after I saw MC, I understand why. He's made manipulating his look for a role into an art...

Exactly! His sense of humor is unique in that it is unexpected. And sometimes he will tell what I would call "dad lies" :) the kind of lies that dads tell their little children to tease them. Lies that are so absurd and outlandish that only kids will believe them. Like saying that the trick he does when he moves his eyes individually is dangerous cause once his eyes almost got stuck like that   or when he was suddenly attacked, saying that he defended himself when he clearly didn't move.

This is why I wish I knew Korean cause I'm sure I'm missing a lot of the nuances of what he says in translations...

I love the exchange at this point...
