But have you noticed that you describe here "mental" aging , or rather maturing?  I was looking at his appearance only. But maybe he looks different because he behaves different - as you said, more confident. Anyway, he is amazing.

I did speak about mental aging, but that tends to also express itself in a person's face. I remember this line from "the picture of Dorian Gray" that said that the more a person ages, the more his character and life style will be reflected on his face. So if you are a bad person living a corrupt life, your face will reflect it as you get older. But if you are a kind person, your face will reflect that too. I happen to love how men look at 40, I think if they live right, they will look the best then. And this is what we see with JH :) I once compared the way he is aging to the way Audrey Hepburn aged- This is her in her 40s- in her sixties she still looked gorgeous! The inner beauty shine through...

Well, no, I haven't. But from seeing the clip you posted, this is indeed akin to soft porn. What I meant, however, that it is not noly the level of explicity that matters - also the quality of emotions. These kisses and scenes in the clip look fake and staged to me. Whereas the kiss between Kate and Sawyer was to me just like two people kissing (yes, with tongue and everything) and not acting in a R-rated film. As we were discussing before, I want sexy not sex as such. Am I making any sense?

You are making sense, and what you mentioned is something I also complained about- Korean movies are maybe more explicit, but they are very lacking in developing the emotional side of the relationship. From what I've seen, those movies are mostly based on lust, not on love. I have been wishing for a JH (I really don't care about the other actors... ) movie or show that will have the combination of a good love story with a more sensual side to it. I think the closest to this type of kiss that JH did was in FTLY the kiss after the auction. That was a very passionate kiss.

I would love to see JH doing a passionate movie in the style of "Sea of love", "The big easy", "Pretty woman" (still think he would have been better than Richard Gere), , "No mercy" (another great Richard Gere movie. Actually, Gere did a lot of sexy roles in the past...)... There are a lot of great movies from the 80s and 90s of that style- a mix of love and suspense.

@Biology LessonYes I agree that he has aged but definitely becoming more charming and manly.

Don't worry about muting the clip below. I played a BGM over it.

Dont you just love how he gazes into camera..

It's almost sinful! That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw this picture yesterday- the things he is saying with his eyes...

How can he do that?!

@corey I know what you mean about kisses, but I can’t appreciate them fully if I don’t know the characters or care for them. In general I don’t find american shows are much better at being sexy, they are more explicit but I personally tend to have a hard time finding them sexy. I usually roll my eyes at their sex scenes. Like they are trying to seem so passionate and it feels/looks forced to me. I’m more impressed by romantic/sensual scenes. But at the end of the day context is all for me, if I love the couple even them holding hands will be more exciting than seeing tongue. And one of my favorite things is forbidden love, unresolved sexual tension and angst (but I don’t mean stories about infidelity and such, those bore me)

The sex scenes in Searching for the elephant (Penthouse elephant) were mostly performed by a character who was a sex addict so, there were no feelings involved. The only one who was actually in love was JHs character and his scenes were more cute than sexy.

Guys! this place has deleted half my comment above twice! Not sure why! Anyway I wanted to share this puzzling comment I found on my blog when FTLY aired

“As much as I love Jang Hyuk, there is one thing from him that has always been a pet peeve to me. Why does he always have to kiss his partners like he is sucking the life out of them ?? LOL I understand that good acting must feel real, and yes, as a viewer, I abhor those high-school kissing scenes when the two involved are as stiff as a log. But his kissing scenes have received negative responses from the viewer for being unnecessarily aggressive and making the audience uncomfortable. They even worried about how his wife may think when watching those scenes. And there is one blind rumour about how an actor took everyone on the filming set aback and sorta disgusted them by kissing the actress so passionately you could clearly hear the sound, and it turns out to be JH’s scene in Iris 2 If only he could tone it down a little bit, then my fangirl’s love for him can be totally completed. Do anyone notice this too ?”

This is funny- we complain about JH's kiss scenes not being passionate enough, and this person is complaining it's too passionate! I guess everyone loves to complain...

What is not not funny and kind of annoying is this person is claiming to speak for all audience members- saying that all the audience was "uncomfortable" by JH's kiss scenes in FTLY... I guess this is why those videos have millions of views on YouTube- because people like being "uncomfortable". Right...

The kiss in IRISII we know the story of- JH was feeling uncomfortable, to LDH's amusement...

At any rate, I put this comments at the same level of the shipping comments. People who feel like the own JH...

@Biology Lesson In total agreement with you and your unamused emoji

BTW I’m hooked on reading the comments about FTLY in the blog! There was so much activity around that drama! Ahhhh I was so happy during that time! (Although watching as it aired was also nerve racking because there is always the fear that they might ruin the drama)

I wish I could turn back time to experience FTLY all over again! But also bring you guys with me to the past! We would have so much fun!

I agree. I went over the Soompi thread of FTLY and I think it was the busiest thread for any of JH's shows. I think a couple of hundreds of pages :) It was fun seeing how people changed from hating JH being cast cause he was "too old", to starting to get excited as they saw the first pictures that came out, the naming of JH hair sweep :D, the annoyance with LG laughter, and then the slow falling in love with him, the hair and the laughter.  People were so invested in that show when it came out! I also wish I was already a fan when that show first came out. I think if the current active members of JH's thread were posting back then, we would have increased the number of pages by a hundred or two...

And actually some people avoided Soompi because there were too many comparisons with the taiwanese version and it was kind of annoying at the beginning (so there could’ve been MORE people). That’s why I opened the discussion on the blog (there were fewer people there obviously but the most I’ve ever had at one time and the exchanges were really fun) It’s like reliving that time again! I feel so nostalgic!

If you ever watch FTLY with subs on Viki you’ll see a similar progression in the opinions, from hating the hair and the laugh to falling in love etc

@corey I also tried watching the taiwanese version but it’s definitely not my cup of tea. In fact, before FTLY started I threw several tantrums thinking it was going to suck, based on the premise and what I saw of the original version. I was so pleasantly surprised.

About the kiss comment, MF had not happened yet when she made that comment so I had no idea what she was referring to. I asked her but she didn’t answer that.

The king of eternal monarch is by the famous “Secret Garden”, “Goblin” writer. I’ve had a hard time finishing her dramas but, I loved her “Mr Sunshine”. The king of eternal monarch does not appeal to me at all but I wish luck to Woo Dohwan. I’ve come to appreciate him due to My Country (and also for having the good sense of admiring Jang Hyuk and being inspired by him

Oh! Mr. Sunshine was by the same person who did Goblin? No wonder I didn't finish it then :) Goblin was one of the only shows that made me embarrassed for the actors, for having to act out such idiotic premise and dialogue!

Yes, I checked who the writer is before watching. I could not get past the first ep. of Goblin, because the leads were so age incompatible, almost to the point of inappropriate for me. She was a 19-year old schoolgirl with an attitute of 12-year-old and talking all the time and he was supposed to be 400 years old or something.

The girl was another sore point for me... ugh...

I hated that show, and I'm super baffled by the fact that it was such a big success. Horrible show!

He seem like a nice guy. I actually tried watching one of his shows, but I think he is too young for me. I had no interest in watching that show :)

BTW- I can report that I tried watching "Love me if you dare" and I can say the couple's interaction was an improvement compared to most Korean RomComs. It was more real with less nonsense. The guy was surprisingly honest. He was slightly odd, but not Alien-odd :) The girl was cute, but not idiotic and bumbling- she was intelligent and sweet from the start and that was what won over the guy.

The only problem- the show bored me to tears! :D I'm sorry, but it did!

At first I didn't even know why I was so bored, since I liked the couple so much, but then I realized- it's the investigations! The guy is a special investigator and she was helping him. The problem was that the show forces the viewer to watch every little detail of his process, and then forces the viewer to watch him explaining his conclusions to the cops (that we already knew cause we watched his process), and then forces the viewer to watch a recreation of the crimes. FOR EVERY CASE! I mean, I got that the guy is smart in the first case! There was no reason to prove that to me over and over again! So from a certain point I started fast forwarding, but since even that didn't help, I just gave up...

Oh, and the kissing scenes were even more tame than Kdramas! :joy:They spoke as if the weren't, but they were very tame...

So, I think I'm giving up... I'm going to rewatch one of JH's shows...

Me me me!!! I don't like the fl but I don't find the scene hot but he is hot!.  I remembered many Naver netizens commenting how can he look so hot with blood on his face.

I've seen that comment before. I think it has got to do with the kissing scene in IRIS2 right ? I really feel it is a case of filming from a bad angle that cause that misunderstanding. :confounded:

It's impossible for me to set aside the annoyance with this female character- so, I'm sorry, I can't stand his love for her ... and her reaction during this kiss really annoyed me. So, no, not sexy at all...

Talk about kiss scenes I feel bad for them during this one.  Looks so cold.

Kinda shows how unsexy the reality of doing a kiss scene really is- turn around, now crouch, turn her this way... poor guys....

It's interesting as I just went over OJH's thread during Chuno's time, and it's fascinating to see how much LDH liked working with JH. She said he always took care of her...

Edit: @dramafan33, some time ago out of curiosity I watched the beginning of the first ep. of Taiwanese drama but I really could not past the bed scene... I sat there, speechless and I tought, whoever edited this drama this way and wrote the script had really, really bad taste.

The original FTLY (taiwanese version) was a 2008 drama. At that time when it aired 12 years ago, it was the best tv drama of the year. The FL got best actress. This drama catered very largely to the taiwanese audience as almost every sentence have their hokkien dialect. Anyone familiar with taiwanese drama, know it tends to be loud (like shouting) the way they speak, & exaggerated too. However, this is not to our liking but for the general taiwanese audience, this is their thing.

I watched it when it was aired. It was a torture because me know nuts about investigations. But some of my friends like it because it's so "investigation"....lol.

@Biology LessonTry "Next Stop Together Forever". It's a 2018 drama. I'm looking for a companion to rant with me :tounge_wink:hahaha! I like this drama because it's relatable to real life. As in the FL is in her mid 30s and finding it difficult to marry due to various reasons and the ML is pulling the brake all the time due to his 2 failed marriages. Even though they eventually have feelings towards each other but he's always the one pulling the brake!! :triumph:Ok for once it's adult couple, we're not looking at 20s falling in love.
