I think it was in an interview for Tazza, that was held very close to his wedding so he had problems calling his wife "my wife" :) I think he called her "the woman that is in my house":joy:

The article I read was during Midas filming but I guess he would say the same words at every interviews. Yes I remember that specific one that he called her the woman in his house. Honestly, I was (at that moment) quite annoyed. It's like hey, she has got your baby, give her a proper status - not the woman in my house.

Also, remember he was filming Chuno while she gave birth to their second son...

I can sense his "guilt" when he said this.

And finally, what we know for sure from the Dragon Club- he doesn't cook in his house or cleans :). he probably hardly goes into the kitchen considering his cooking skills. it's just recycling for him!

What is for sure is that his family is very important to him and he is trying to have what he said he fantasized about- a normal regular family.

I think this is their culture. Korean culture. The women will be the ones inside the kitchen and doing domestic chores. The men sipping beer at the sofa or watch TV.

they don't get to speak about themselves that much being busy with life and children

This could be an asian culture too. I am not saying everyone marriage is like this but I do know of many couples switching from "us" to "we"...the us somehow disappears for some good years until the children have grown. Everything is family focus instead of couple focus. I guess it is not something unusual. 3 children is a handful from top to toe to education to the list goes on.

I thought it was just me :) I was completely skipping those discussions, and it's the majority of the discussions there... But from what I did read- it seems that the show doesn't clearly explain whats happening. People seem to be completely confused about very basic things in the show, like why Hwi's father killed himself. I think the strange jump in the plot that led to the fight scene in the forest is not rare in the show...

Maybe it will be OK to discuss YBW and JH if we remain specific to his performance, even if he is a supporting character... The thing is, seeing how the number of people posting there is not that big, If we start posting there, I think we'll hijack the discussion :) did anyone here even watch the two first episodes?! I didn't... :sweatingbullets:

I did! I did not plan to do so but somehow since I was too bored on weekends so I tried it, and surprisingly it was quite watchable on the whole. Yeah I guess discussing about YBW in the drama thread is ok as long we dont start drooling over his looks there haha.

About LDW,  I tried Globin but I didnt like it too so I gave up after 2 eps. And when I said pretty, I didn't mean it as a compliment lol.. But let's try to keep discussion about other celebrities to a minimum in this thread here , because this is a public forum, I dont want lurkers to come attack us here.

Since it's impossible not to drool on all his body parts, yes ok, let's just discuss JH here.

Anyone noticed that in DB before they went for the ride, and HKM said if they are in their 2os, HKM would make sure they all have travel companions....JH smiled. I found that the nicest smile ever. It's like 1 of his best smile.

Certainly agree with you. JH is getting more handsome and manly as he aged. His aura is just so strong, no words needed just his presence. I felt this very much when he was KPJ and now as YBW.

That was my favourite Daegil kick! I wonder if ahjusshi JH can still do that kick now. I guess he is not going to like it too much that the focus is on his body instead of on his acting

Just visited My Country thread. Not many people are talking about JH (YBW). :bawling:

But I really wonder what the directors think sometimes. Like why can’t he have Pil Joo’s hairstyle in Beautiful Mind! I suppose like you said, they really wanna downplay his good looks... otherwise he will seem unreal hahahahah

They downplayed his beauty in WOL. The initial image wasn’t what we saw but stillllll he was adorable :)

I was talking about a different interview he gave, not the article you quoted.

Obviously he didn't call her that out of disrespect, but rather because he wasn't used to call her his wife. That's it.

I don't think this is a cultural thing. Remember three of the Dragon club's married guys actually knew how to cook, while in many couples that I know the husband doesn't know how to cook, and I'm not a Korean.

The same goes to couples that are married for a long time. This is something that is universal- lack of communication that stems from being busy with life. Again, I know many couples that forget how to communicate as time goes by.

But I'm not saying that that is the situation with JH. He did say that they do find time to actually talk about themselves, just not often. I remember in the "radio star" appearance he did for "Bad papa", the married MCs in the show started to talk about how sometimes they don't even lift their head when talking to their wives or that they don't take too much interest in what their wives do. If you look at JH's face during that discussion, you could see that he was completely baffled by what they were saying. It was clear this is not the situation with him...

There is nothing to feel guilty about though. His second son was born prematurely(I think more than one month earlier) so there was no way he could make it to witness the birth. He was shooting at far away place.

You guys find him pretty?! I guess it's a matter of taste :)

It's just colour of his lips which makes him pretty otherwise I think he is manly looking. I find his features handsome and unique(among K actors).

What they say in this vid is all true :) but why didn't they use more current clips? Maybe someone needs to send this article to the My County's producers... :)

Isn't it funny that they call him "Homme fatal" when we were just discussing how in real life he makes sure to be anything but that?

Well here we don’t invite guests' families to weddings of friends or colleagues too, unless it is a close friend whom the spouse knows personally.

I guess ppl in ur country dress more elaborately for a wedding? Coz it looks like these ppl are dressed pretty similar to what we see in weddings in my country too.

We invite pretty much every friend's and acquaintance's families to the wedding. Infact weddings and other ceremonies are seen as great opportunity to introduce your spouse and children to your friends and their respective families. Friends of your spouse are also naturally your friends here.

I can even go uninvited given that my friends or relatives or neighbors have an invitation.(lols:P)

Yes people in my country dress elaborately but I was not making comparison in this regard. It seems Korean celebrities don't even bother to dress formally for the ocassion.

Yes, technically there is nothing to feel guilty about. His 2nd son was born premature and he was in some mountain area filming Chuno. But as a husband and a father, not being able to be there to witness the birth of your child, having your wife to go through it alone, more or less, there would be some guilt feeling. I am not sure if the english subtitles and the chinese subtitles matches (since I am not korean) but according to chinese subtitles which I saw the programme, he said he felt "sorry" about it. While saying it, I could sense his feeling of guilt, that is what I meant.

The director of FLU said JH is a super affectionate husband so yes, this not looking at his wife doesn't apply in his situation.

Maybe I could be mistaken but I based this on my friends who married japanese husband. And they don't step into the kitchen or help with chores. So I have always thought it is the same with korean culture.

I think it is also different people with different parenting styles. In DB, CTH said he spoke to his wife alot and let his children run around. But JH said he only has time to talk to his wife when all 3 have gone to bed. They are so busy looking after their running around children and they get tired. Just different parenting styles.

Also don't forget that these are JH's children. Fearless JH seems to have fearless boys :)  He said that when they want to go from behind the couch to its front, instead of simply going around, his kids will vault over the couch  Also there is the picture he's shown of his first born while he was still a baby hanging from the kitchen counter... He has told the story that when he offered to babysit, his kids antics stressed him out so much, that he hid from them to get a break... :joy:

Yes - fearless JH. He hang on the rail on the 14th floor....his 1st son obviously takes after him or maybe both sons. Good for him to experience babysitting. And both are 1 year apart. What a handful! At least he knows it isn't easy on his wife and appreciates her. Heehee! Most husband don't even know that babysitting is difficult.

Wow, I didn't check on this forum in one day and there are so many interesting posts from you all to read! Love the livelihood here.

@budgerie @Biology Lesson, thanks for sharing your views and comments on JH's personal life and his past interviews/mentions of his wife and kids. I believe he cherishes his family and it is a wise choice not to intentionally expose them to the evil eyes of the public. If he treats work as work and family is family, there really is nothing for his wife to be upset or jealous about when it comes to his work requirements.

Initially I was a lil upset when I watch DB where he said he and his wife don't get to talk much (or at least not about themselves) and that they don't say I love you often to each other. But having watched that conversation a few times, I come to understand that it is partly due to (1) his parenting style with his wife, (2) his kids are young, seemingly very active and noisy, (3) perhaps also relationship style with his wife, so on and so forth.  Fortunately in the same scene in DB, he said he still get butterflies when his wife is around, which means a lot for a man to say this to his good friends (and we know him to be an honest person).

In the past when I read about how he fell in love with his wife as he walked past her in the gym, I felt it was such a cliche story. I mean, what is love at first sight? However, I find that he has never denied the 'love at first sight' statement whenever interviewers bring this up. As recent as Old Mom's Diary, he nodded his head when one of the hosts made this statement of JH falling in love at first sight. Hence, it is very believable that he really was attracted to his wife at first sight, and this attraction grows as he joined her classes, and the feelings continued far enough to date her, marry her and the rest is history. It really is a nice love story, especially when they had to be apart while he served in military and they are conscious they need to start a family soon.

By the way, does any of you know why JH's agency and family initially did not approve to his decision to get married? I understand his agency may want to protect his popularity and fame, but why would his parents disagree too? Are they also worried he is too young to get married during his peaking popularity? I hope this is the reason and not that they did not like his wife.

I agree that it is just different parenting styles.  Personality matters here too. I remember CTH mentioned that his wife doesn't like him to be in kissing and revealing scenes but JH mentioned during an interview that since his wife used to be a professional dancer, she understands what acting is about and knows it is  all about work. Hence, she is not very jealous. He also continued that his wife's way of cheering him on is  very unique. For example, in some works,  he may be required to do some kissing or bed scenes. Instead, his wife will tell him not to limit to visual effects. She is someone who is relatively more open-minded in his acting career and so he is really very grateful to her.

Translated from the excerpt below:

他的妻子又是怎样看待的呢?「因为妻子曾经跳过舞,是个知道什么是演戏的人,也明确知道这都是工作,并不会很嫉妒」;接著张赫也表示妻子为他加油的方式也很独特,「她很支持我,诸如有些作品中必须要有吻戏或是床戏的,她反而会跟我说要我不要只限於视觉上的效果,在我的演艺生涯中是个比较放得开的人,因此我很感谢她」。(Source : https://www.koreastardaily.com/sc/news/8144)

The regulars here will know, I’m very boring.

i watch only JH’s productions and knows only him by name and etc. The rest I don’t know and not familiar, can only recognise by face because they appear together with JH. I think I’ve literally combed thru his variety shows, dramas and movies. There were some I have yet to find a good source to watch though, such as ‘the client’ which I’ve heard very good reviews.

no time for others.

but for JH, any time :)
