I was surprised to see numbers for Doctor John go down a bit. After all, it is a medical drama starring Ji Sung — you’d think that would promise consistent double digits.

10 Cheesy Romantic K-Dramas That Are Total Guilty Pleasures

2acf49cb041f4ba0b9a3a2846ae80ca1.jpeg?s=

Let’s be real. There are A LOT of cheesy K-dramas out there. Sometimes we watch a particular scene that we’ve seen countless times before that is off-the-charts cheesy, but we still can’t help but love it. There are various tropes or elements that usually result in a drama giving off a cheesy vibe. Some aspects include an accidental hug or kiss, an over-the-top confession, a background song, and super sweet displays of affection in the form of actions or words. And although these cheesy elements are enough to make us cringe, it still doesn’t take away from the fact that the K-drama is an absolute pleasure to watch. Here’s a look at 10 Romantic K-dramas that are cheesy but a total guilty pleasure.

Warning: Minor spoilers ahead!

9. “Kill Me Heal Me

“Kill Me Heal Me” is the hit MBC series starring Ji Sung, Hwang Jung Eum, and Park Seo Joon. Ji Sung plays Cha Do Hyun, a troubled man who struggles with multiple personality disorder. He tries to get better by hiring a psychiatric student by the name of Oh Ri Jin (Hwang Jung Eum). The two end up falling in love with each other and discover that their pasts are intertwined.

kill-me-heal-me.jpg

One of the main reasons why this particular K-drama is so cheesy is because of one of the personalities who goes by the name of Shin Se Gi. In the first scene with Shin Se Gi, he says and does things that are so cringe-worthy. But even though it is pretty cheesy, there’s something about him that totally had everyone smitten!

7 Underrated Rom-Com K-Dramas You Might Have Missed

581db5fd3cd2473182b10ac0ffc3544f.jpeg?s=

So much romance, so little time. Every year, more and more amazing romantic K-dramas pile up on our to-watch lists, unwatched. We find ourselves distracted by the shiny, buzzy dramas that everyone’s GIF-ing, and we forget about that sweet little show that once looked so promising.

Often, it’s these unassuming little shows that are most rewarding to watch once we finally give them a chance. But who has the time to sift through a million obscure dramas in the hope that something decent will show up? For your convenience, here’s a little cheat sheet: seven underrated dramas that are worth that free weekend.

Warning: tiny spoilers ahead

3. “Familiar Wife

I know, I know, how could a Ji Sung drama be underrated? He and Han Ji Min are both fantastic here, playing a husband and wife with a long history that both divides and unites them over the course of different timelines.

Ji-Sung-Han-Ji-Min-Familiar-Wife.gif

This drama is a watchable mix of fun, light fantasy, and serious life lessons learned. It may seem at first that our couple are not the greatest people. Maybe they really should break up? That’s what makes it so satisfying as we watch them change in a real, nuanced way. In the end, we’re rooting for them to get a second chance.

We may be seeing Ji Sung in a variety show soon!

On October 11, it was reported that Ji Sung is preparing a new variety show with tvN. When asked for comment, a source from Namoo Actors stated, “It’s true that Ji Sung has received the offer and is currently in the process of looking over it.”

Ji Sung has made guest appearances in variety shows over the years, but if the new show becomes a reality, this will be the first time that he’s a fixed cast member. Anticipation is rising to see what kind of show Ji Sung and tvN might be preparing together.

Ohhhh ...

Hi SasoryCantabile, NICE that you love his drama, "Dr. John" - As far as I know, CIPA is a disorder of the nervous system, which prevents the feeling of pain or temperature, and prevents a person from sweating, too.  His inability to feel physical pain does not extend to emotional pain -- people with CIPA feel emotional pain just like anyone else. A heat attack, for instance, is much more dangerous for patients with CIPA because they do not feel it, therefore do not know that they need to be hospitalized. My BF is a doctor and he said that there is still no cure for CIPA. This condition is inherited.  CIPA is a very rare disease. This can also affect their sense of taste.  Ye, right you are -  it is an orphan disease .....:P

*** JS will be part of tvN’s new variety show “RUN”.  “RUN” will follow the cast as they participate in meet-ups at various running spots both in and outside of Korea to experience “the joy of running” with a goal of participating in a marathon in Florence, Italy. It has now been confirmed that the first episode will premiere on January 2 next year at 11 p.m. KST. Please see the new stills showing (4) cast members as they prepare for the marathon in Italy. According to the staff, the (4) were often seeing running through the streets of Florence to prepare for the international marathon in the early hours of the morning. The show also released their official logo, which reads “RUN, it makes my heart race,” with a small figure of a person running. I'll watch this for JS. Something new for him. :P

SBS Drama Awards Grand Prize - Kim Nam-gil, Jang Nara, Ji Sung or Lee Seung-gi?

Ji Sung from "Doctor John" and Lee Seung-gi from "Vagabond" can't be missed. "Doctor John" only ended up with a record of 12.3% from its third episode, but Ji Sung's performance stands out. After his white-gown doctor role in the drama "New Heart", he returned as a doctor who doesn't feel pain.

“Kill Me Heal Me” is about a wealthy man named Cha Do Hyun (Ji Sung) who is struggling with multiple personality disorder as a result of a traumatic experience he had as a child. To be more specific, he has seven personalities, one of which is also in love with the female lead, Oh Ri Jin (Hwang Jung Eum).

The main reason why “Kill Me Heal Me” is so comical is because of the incredible way Ji Sung was able to portray one of his character’s personalities, the young teenage girl who goes by the name Yo Na.

Yo Na was by far the most hilarious one of the several personalities that Cha Do Hyun possessed. It was also so entertaining to see his other personalities come through on a whim. Ji Sung is such a talented and funny actor!

*** FinallY.... I'm done watching his drama "Doctor John" - I always love medical dramas. I love everything about this drama specially because they're not afraid to tackle sensitive medical cases. JS was the reason why I got into K-pop. He was the very first K-actor that I adore & still is. He still takes my breath away. JS is a super good actor. I've cried in several scenes of this drama, which is unusual of me since I'm not really a crybaby. Here, each time patients explained their struggles with their illnesses, I try to hold back from crying especially those cancer/terminal patients. Maybe because my Mom died due to cancer. The drama started off really good. I love that medical dramas can be so different & unique in its own ways. I love it so much.....the same way that how I love JS so much! Here, it makes me know about CIPA, that there's such thing about this. The show focuses on pain management. CIPA is where a patient doesn't feel pain or temperature & doesn't have the ability to sweat. Pain is always considered bad, but the latter part of the drama focuses on how important it is to feel pain. It also portrays how the lives of the doctors are affected while they treat various patients. The drama highlights how difficult it is for the guardians of the patients while supporting their loved-ones. The medical content in the drama is of great quality & educational. The relationship between the leads is that of understanding & care. This was yet another remarkable performance by JS who portrays Cha Yo Han, a doctor who stops at nothing to treat his patients. He's  tenacious indeed! The dialogues in the drama are exceptional. Despite it being a medical drama, the romance, legal & mystery aspects are catchy as well. "Doctor John" is one of the most informative drama out there! I hope they will get many awards here. It does justice to all of its genres of medical, romance & drama.
