Episode 6 Comments

The episode opens with Choi Young telling Ki Chul he came there because he loves the Doctor. Young tells himself he’s just giving a plausible personal reason for going there, but don’t we all know there’s more of his heart in that answer than he admits?! On their journey to treat the sick young prince, she keeps mentioning it, half really asking if he meant it and half teasing him. He doesn’t know what to do with her, this woman who talks constantly and questions everything he says, but is vivacious and disturbing to his emotions all at the same time.

I laughed aloud at the horseback riding lesson; the actress Kim Hee Sun is very funny! In Son Ji-na’s novel she writes that Young felt he used a month’s worth of words teaching her to ride. The taciturn warrior continues to be shaken into life, not just by the Doctor’s medical skills but by her lively and demanding character who keeps intruding on him.

I didn’t like Young’s conversation in the forest with Hwa-su-in, and for that matter, much of her part to this point falls flat to me. Her fireballs don’t ever hit their target and neither does her flirty but menacing character. She’s just side candy, which is too bad; that character could have been much more interesting at this stage in the series, at least to my mind. Then there is Ki Chul and his baths. Someone earlier wondered about whether he and the fire lady were getting it on; I think not. Looking at the bare-chested boys and young men who bathe him, I think his sexual interests lie elsewhere or are entirely sublimated into his quest for power and possessions.

Meanwhile the poor King struggles on with a courageous but misguided young Queen putting herself at extreme risk, and with the ever-wily Ki Chul making the case that Choi Young is betraying him. Choi Young is my romantic attachment, but the young King gets my sympathy all the way, even when he’s done things that contribute to his difficulties, like treating the Queen with distain.

My favorite scene is when Young and Eun-soo finally arrive at Gangwha Island and greet the young prince. The prince is such a desperately lonely boy, and Choi Young’s broad smile brightens the entire room when he greets him and gathers the boy into a big hug. He clearly loves the young prince and becomes downright talkative when asked about his experience in heaven. It’s very sweet and such a switch in Young’s demeanor, revealing heretofore unseen parts of his personality. I think this also makes an impression on Eun-soo. It certainly made one on me, finally seeing those lovely dimples on Young’s face!

Sorry to cut your post @msdot  and thanks for sharing.   This episode is really packed with lots of teasing, with ES being so funniy andadorable in many scenes.   Will continue later.

Choi Young’s point of view:

The preparation with regards to her learning how to ride was no walk in the park. I usually don’t have to utter more than five or six words a day. But in my attempt to convince her, I have exhausted one month worth of words.

“Even if we don’t go by horse, it is not a journey that can be undertaken by walking. You aren’t any good at walking anyway.”

“That’s why I don’t plan on travelling all the way there.”

“I’m afraid that isn’t an option.”

“If I do go there, it will cause more problems for me.”

“Why don’t we try getting on the horse first?”

“That’s the part I like the least – getting on the horse.”

I didn’t know what else I could say to persuade her so I just looked at her, conceding defeat.

Hello my Faithlings! So sorry for my lack of participation. Been busy planning for a party and will continue to still be busy until the weekend clears out, i hope :(

i miss Daejang and all of you. Will pop in whenever I have a chance to chit-chat ;)

@Min2206 yes you can use the chibi art I shared. It’s for all of us :D

@msdot love your analysis on the episodes!! Now that I am rewatching it, my thoughts are being refreshed and upgraded. It makes me see Daejang even deeper as a character than before.

——

this is a fanart that displays Daejang’s emotions clearly. He is a serious, introvert person and even his crew doesn’t know the true emotions of his built-in wall. Yet, this is how Daejang feels emotionally inside before meeting Imja. He carries his duty while crying inside because of his past, painful memories.

also, i haven’t had a chance to watch the episodes yet but i am wondering if these are the episodes where we see his first “love” and him kiss..because I remember us Faithlings 8 years ago were not happy with him having a more intimate kiss scene with this gal than our ES  oops.spoiler alert haha.

I like to see LMH kissing regardless of who it is (except maybe Ki Chul). In Ep 5 he leans to kiss May Hee but she disappears, so no kiss is actually shown. Clearly they filmed a kiss but didn’t use it in the drama, perhaps feeling like you did.

Have a great party!

Hello dear faithlings~ like @vangsweetie637 I've been MIA for a few days too. Just got back from a holiday break, and I still have no internet connexion at home (currently maxing out my 4G connection haha).

Since I was bored and was already maxing out my cell phone plan anyway, I've been watching bts videos of the show. Do any of you guys remember this one:

This video doesn't have any subs, but it's during filming the early episodes, back when Eun Soo operates on Choi Young after stabbing him with his sword.

The video starts with the voice over saying: "Kim Hee Sun is looking very serious in her role as surgeon. Lee Min Ho is also deeply in character, playing the patient and isn't moving at all. Howeveeer... huh? It looks like he fell asleep."

Then KHS explains to the camera: "He fell asleep for real, because he was exhausted. Earlier we were filming, he fell asleep, and woke up startled."

And then Kim Hee Sun, the director and the actor who play Jang Bin proceed to talk behind his back (lol) while letting him sleep. Kim Hee Sun says that LMH fell asleep filming the day before too, with his mouth wide open.

Then the guy who plays Jang Bin says: "Min Ho called me afterwards and told me "hyung I think I really fell asleep yesterday while filming. I even had a nightmare to the point of being annoyed. Hyung um, was I annoying? (can also be interpreted as "I hope i didn't mess up anything")" "

KHS then says: "Min Ho called [Jang Bin] because he was worried he was being annoying"

Because he was still in a deep sleep, someone from the crew had to physically wake him up. He looks so out of it hahaha.

He then says: "I usually need 7 to 8 hour of sleep. Last night, we didn't shoot anything but I had other engagements so I barely got 2 hours of sleep."

Then the clips wraps up with Kim Hee Sun sharing candies with the cast and crew. She even set up a buffet for the crew ! She truly is a saint <3

(No but seriously, can we talk about the fact that Mr Lee literally fell asleep while shooting a scene lol)

@Thong Thin  Morning to you too and thanks for the tea-break gifs!  Lovely!

@msdot @CallieP @Thong Thin @kehrite @Lmangla  Please do share your thoughts on Epi 6.   Looking forward to read your comments.  I do go back to read your lines again, haha and then playback those scenes.  So warm-y.

I like how Dae Man was smiling quietly at the back, watching ES teasing our Daejang :D  The walk at the forest scene was  a pretty long one.   I find ES a cheery and positive person, like that spirit in her, despite all the anxiety and unknown elements ahead, being in a foreign land / era.

I love the part when CY turned to Dae Man frustrated, why of all the people I had to pick her, why?   Dae Man was amused at ES antic's when she kept asking CY if he loved her.  I loved the scene  when CY first met the young prince and smiled when he hugged him. It was the sweetest smile ever, I think this is my most favorite LMH's smile of all time.  I also thought he was cute when he was amazed at ES's singing and broke into an amused smile.  Our silent warrior is smiling more with ES around. She amuses him.

Thanks for the video and translation, LMH looked like he just got up from sleep. So cute.

Agree with your description. Yes he lets his guard down when he is the young prince and is almost like a normal person telling the young prince stories of his journey to heaven.

I like the mandu scene

Song Ji Na's Novel Excerpts credit to https:// breathlesssurvival.wordpress.com/faith-translations/

Choi Young’s point of view:

I finally found a small mandu stall and I bought her some mandu. She ate as much as what it took to feed the entire Woodalchi army. Holding mandu in both her hands, she just ate and ate.

The sun was starting to set. Crossing the river before that was going to be difficult – actually impossible given the current situation. Dae Man had not returned. Something must have happened.

“Excuse me.”

I turned around when she called me. I didn’t realise frustration was written all over my face. Across the table, I saw her looking at me worriedly. I deliberately relaxed my facial features and sat down across her.

“Please go on.”

“Let’s go our separate ways.”

When the significance of her words dawned me, I had trouble even drawing a breath. All I do could was stare at her and ask.

“What do you mean?”

“You don’t intend on sending me back to the king at this moment, right?”

“That’s right.”

“Without the king’s permission, you can’t escort me to heaven’s door, right?”

“That would be difficult.”

“That’s what I’m saying. Please just release me. Consider what we have gone through together so far, please just release me. I’ll make my way there by myself. You’ll just have to teach me how to get there.”

I felt as if one part of my heart had just dropped to the pits. She just kept on talking.

“Can’t you just tell the king I ran away? Also, you need to lend me some money. Though I can’t pay you back, it’s the least you can do. “

“No.”

“You said you love me.”

“It is not a journey you can make by yourself. Also, it’s dangerous.”

“Isn’t there someone you can trust to be my escort? A friend or a fellow guard. I just need someone to stick close to me and I’ll be fine.”

“No. There isn’t someone I trust enough to escort you.”
Though I have no idea why I gave her that answer, that was how I replied.

“If you are done eating, let’s go. We have a long journey ahead of us.”

I started to stand as I was talking to her. I walked off and stood aside.

My heart felt as if it was still dropping – and plus now, it was throbbing. According to Jang Bin, my body hasn’t fully recovered yet. It must be my weak body pulling my heart down and making it fragile – it seems to be feeling a lot more and is quickly getting more intolerant to getting wounded.
“Let’s go our separate ways. I can make the journey alone.” She says those words so easily.

I did my best to control my feelings and raised my head. If my heart doesn’t regain its previous state of nonchalance soon, I will definitely start losing my ability to wield my sword.

Eun Soo’s point of view:
We had to go our separate ways as soon as possible. When he came to find me this morning, with the smell of blood permeating from him, I made up my mind not to return to the palace. Even without the threat of being beheaded, even without been badgered by things surrounding me, my personal antenna keeps pointing towards him.

I want to know what he is thinking at the very moment, I want to know what he thinks of me as he looks at me. I want to know everything that matters to him. Because I want to look at him, because I want to hear his voice, I keep talking to him. His honest responses, his awkward gazes, everything about him makes my heart flutter. Whenever he stares straight into my eyes, I cease to breathe.

I must be crazy. A person from another world. A man who kidnaps and kills as easily as drawing a breath. More than anything, he is someone who is mentioned in textbooks. He is not a man from some one-night stand. That’s what I’m trying to say. If I enter into a romantic relationship with this man in this world, will I also be mentioned in textbooks?

Exactly. I am crazy. No matter what, before it is too late, even if for just for one day less, I think it is best this man and I quickly go our separate ways.

Isn’t Eun-soo’s confrontation of Ki Chul delightful in this episode?! I love how she gets right in his face and shakes her finger while cursing at him.

she was indeed amusing to watch; @Thong Thin @CallieP it was hilarious that her cursing was taken as a literal curse by ki cheol's brother/assistant and others of the court. was giggling when ki cheol mentioned the 2 things she had insulted him with -- first, she says that she knows when he will die but won't reveal it -- okay, that is sort of witch/shaman like... and secondly, she asks how old he is -- bwahahahaha. apparently our villain is sensitive about his age. is that why he spends his time getting massages? and yet again, we see him soaking in the tub shirtless - the guy has a lot of abs scenes. LOL. ^_^

I loved the metaphor of the frozen lake to show us Choi Young’s inner emotions. As he drifts further away, the ice forming all over him perfectly conveys what is happening to him. And then when he feels her tears drop on his face and he hears her calling him to keep his promise, the ice breaking up on his cheek shows that he has grabbed that slender lifeline to keep his word to her. Wow! Just wow.

was surprised at how well done it was @Min2206 @kehrite -- the GFX is obviously quite low compared to today's tech; however, it is the emotion of the moment that hits and so rather than rely on fancy technique, PDs and actors need to look at how to build that emotion.

my fav character in this episode -- doctor jang! he just continues to shine and love how he is not intimidated by all her modern knowledge and they can talk as physician to physician. she is in some sense has become cynical. like choi young frozen in this lake, she has become marooned by her cynicism and unwillingness to engage with people or life. she chose to become a plastic surgeon to earn money but does she even know what she wants to do with that money? is it for living? to prove something. so in some sense, she was also stuck just like min young. it is interesting that doctor jang cuts through all her noise and simply asks if she has ever lost a patient and basically whether she can handle it...

my least favourite character in this episode -- the king continues to annoy me. okay, you are young but do you think the seat means automatically everyone should trust and obey you? he is then upset that no one trusts him. hello, the last king made a mockery of his guards -- so obviously they don't trust the king's judgement. and as for the queen, he can't seem to decide whether he likes her or hates her. him having a jealous prissy fit was kind of funny - - the guy can't decide whether the queen is concerned for him or whether she secretly likes choi young better -- well, he is taller, good looking and can fight! hahahha... the king needs to learn that trust is earned and to earn trust, there has to be communication, not top down commands especially when the old management was so awful.....

There were a few scenes on the frozen lake - 1st one where CY was asked by his father whether he still loves MH - he said yes.  He was hurting bad, so loyal.  He could not let go.

giphy.gif

2nd time was when ES was disturbed, so shaken when Dr JB mentioned that Daejang, as her patient, might "die" in her hands.  Doctors will try their level best to cure their patients, no matter what.  Depends on many circumstances, some make it , some don't.  But here, he is not just her patient, he is the man who kidnapped her to this world, the man who she has grown to have feelings for, the man who she depended on and trusted , also the same man who she stabbed and "killed" if he dies.

He did stop breathing, right?  Dr JB stopped ES to do the CPR on CY.

3rd one was how @msdot described it so well - that one teardrop that cracked the ice.  He heard her cries. remember his promise to her, the reason for him to live.

giphy.gif
bts clip - sbs

I didn't know that the scenes were done indoor.  Whoa, I was surprised to see so many manpower .... the production crew and all - -amazing!

yea, he seemed like he did stop breathing for a bit and doctor jang wanted her to stop doing CPR as it seemed pointless...

at this point, she seems him more like her patient but it is also interesting how he is the only one that feels familiar to her in this strange world. she is slowly building ties to others like doctor jang but he is the only one who she sort of recognizes as completely on her team -- on some level, she trusts that he will keep his word he is only one capable of sending her back...

I didn't see this connection earlier (ES-JB pair), now that you pointed it out - interesting!  Initially I thought they might have something going on but it was on a professional level.  He cares and treats her equal.   Thanks again @Lmangla

I’m re watching Faith again (only my fave scene between Daejang and imja) after finished it a month ago. Some of you are right Daejang is becoming more and more swoon worthy towards the later episode and I can’t handle. Why?

on episode 18 the sat under the tree and Daejang motioned to his shoulder as a command to rest imja May head on his shoulder.

and then when imja told the king that the queen lost his baby, and He came in front of her to hold her hand and so that she rest  her face on his back. The look on his face

there are many more....

It's adorable that he thinks his heart beating rapidly has something to do with his recent injury. Oh Choi Young, my sweet summer child. It's called falling in love. It has nothing to do with your wound.

In hindsight, it's hilarious reading his POV, because if he thinks this is it, he's dead wrong. Our girl Eun Soo is about to put his heart on a rollercoaster ride

Also super interesting to see her POV in the book. She's started to fall for him too, and we don't really perceive that during the scene in the show.

I'm just... I'm in love with their love.

Ep 6 - Part I

I love the way King Gong Min  paces the hallway to and fro, with his guards in tow.

It's cute & funny !

I can understand Queen Noguk frustration & feelings, she wants to do something to help the king, but she can’t, she has no fighting skills, no doctor skills, a King who telss her don’t speak without permission – basically she is just a doll there sitting and look pretty.

If only King GM would just put aside his pride and confide Queen NG fully and sincerely.. I mean King GM was ever so ready to enlighten Court LC (whom he has not been in contact for so long) with each of his plans and intentions regarding ES; why he let KC took her, etc.

Whereas, King GM should be telling all these to Queen NG !  He kept yapping about him being he King of Goryeo and that would look pitiful if he had to put a request to KC, a citizen of his, though her, the Princess of Yuan.

On a lighter note, I love every single moment of ES and CY here, she is a chatterbox !

When he taught her how to ride a horse, when he told her to sleep right next to where he sits so he can protect her.
I was quite taken with the scene where she tells him her name too. Do you notice how he mouths her name silently after she "introduces" herself? A pity she does not ask him to call her by her name.

ES : So.... you love me ?

        I really didn't know !

CY : I only said that because of the situation

ES : You can't even look at me in the eyes ( hehehe, keep moving left & right trying to look into CY eyes)

CY : Look earlier when I said I love you..............

ES :  Are you embarrased for confessing ?

However when ES touched him on the shoulder he  just snapped.

Look at how CT vent his frustation on Daeman, poor puppy .

Haha, never under estimate DM, he might look innocent &  cute BUT he can be naughty tooooo.

ES was somehow insensitive towards CY when she told him how he can’t be married because no girl will like him cause he kills people. CY seemed so sad. I bet he thought back at his time with his ex, who committed suicide. When ES told him how her parents are probably worried about their only daughter, he asked her to shut up and sleep because he felt guilty for bringing her into this mess and knowing more about her life would only make him feel even guiltier. When she asked him to keep his promise and take her to the heavens door again I felt so freaking sad for him .

As a doctor, ES still cares for CY as her patient .
