Hyun Bin’s ‘Confidential Assignment 2’ sells 1.73-M tickets; No. 1 for 4 days

Korean actor Hyun Bin’s new movie “Confidential Assignment 2: International” has sold 1.73 million tickets at the Korean box office in four days. 

Boosted by the Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) holiday weekend, “Confidential Assignment 2: International,” released on Sept. 7, sold 532,766 tickets and grossed $.399 million on Sept. 9, and 688,429 and $5.28 million on Sept. 10 to bring the total admissions to 1.73 million, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

"Confidential Assignment 2:International" released during the Chuseok holiday with no competitor captivated audiences.

According to the integrated network of movie tickets by the Korean Film Council on Monday, "Confidential Assignment 2" attracted over 2.09 million audiences topping Korean box office.

The number of audience constantly increased during the holiday, 532 thousands, 713 thousands, and 852 thousands. The movie ticket sales reached 75.9%

Cumulative audience number is now at 2.61 million, on the brink of reaching 3 million, the estimated break-even point.

"6/45," starring Go Kyung-pyo and Lee Yi-kyung, placed second but garnered only 304 million for three days. 

"The Black Phone, starring Ethan Hawke and released on the same day as "Confidential Assignment 2" places seventh (32 thousand audiences), and re-released "Aladdin" ranked eight (28 thousands)

For the second series, an additional US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent was thrown into the setting of the first series, in which North and South Korean detectives chased North Korean criminals together. Scenes and the humor both have been upgraded, and it attracted audiences as it has been rated as a good movie to watch for killing time with family on holidays.

The previous film was released in time for the Lunar New Year holiday in 2017, and the final number of viewers was 7.81 million.

As "Confidential Assignment 2" ran solo, the atmosphere has become dreary. The total number of movie theater audiences for three days was about 2.76 million, lower than the pre-pandemic holidays when the daily audience number exceeded 1 million

'Cooperation 2' takes over the theater district on Chuseok... 1st place with over 2.6 million

The movie 'Cooperation 2: International' (Director Seok-Hoon Lee) occupied the theater district on Chuseok. 

According to the integrated computer network for movie theater admissions by the Korean Film Council on the 12th, the movie 'Cooperation 2: International' mobilized 852,576 audiences nationwide on the 11th and maintained the top spot at the box office. The cumulative number of spectators was 2,611,265. Since its release on the 7th, it has not lost a single place in the number one spot and has surpassed 2.6 million viewers. 

This is more than double the record of 1,153,989 people in the first week of release of the first film, 'Cooperation'. It also easily beat the first week records of 'Top Gun: Maverick' (1526,263) and 'Hansan: Appearance of the Dragon' (2,269,575). 

'Cooperation 2: International' is a reunion of North Korean detective Lim Cheol-ryeong (Hyun Bin), South Korean detective Kang Jin-tae (Yoo Hae-jin), who met again to catch a global criminal organization, as well as New Face overseas FBI Jack (Daniel Henney). Hyun Bin and Yoo Hae-jin are the lead actors in this movie about the unpredictable triangular cooperation of detectives.

The film 'Confidential Assignment 2: International' has amassed more than 3 million admissions just 6 days after release. 

 

According to CJ ENM on September 12th,  'Confidential Assignment 2: International' has officially amassed 3 million admissions as of 12:50 PM KST. The film is attracting moviegoers at a faster pace than 'Hansan: Rising Dragon', which previously had a record of amassing 3 million admissions 8 days after its premiere. 

To celebrate the feat, the main cast of the film posed with placards thanking the audience for their support as shown above.
