[Drama 2012] A Wife's Credentials 아내의 자격

@Auntie Mame:  Thanks for the recommendations.  My daughter has already urged me to see School 2013;  she wants my input about precisely what you mention.  As soon as I can, I'll see it.

She had also recommended Fermentation Family last year and I watched it.  (She's to blame for getting me "hooked" in the first place.  Hahaha!)  Enjoyed it, and what I remember the most, besides the FOOD preparation so lovingly presented, is the father's "pilgrimage" (I LOVE Kang Shin-Il even more after seeing The Chaser).  And I think it was with FF that I started to notice how often the ex-con-trying-to-live-straight appears in kdramas and movies.

AWCs is definitely a drama that I would download and/or purchase.  I just signed in to a site that promised a drama I wanted to see and it turns out it wasn't available, and I really can't (or don't know how to) download at all!  Where in the soompi forums would I go to learn how to do this?  I downloaded Daemong at the very beginning of my affair with dramas, but don't remember where I went or how I did it. O_O  Thanks for your help.

Ryu Seung-ryong gets top Paeksang Award

When the nominations for 49th edition of Paeksang Arts Awards were revealed last month, many guessed actor Ryu Seung-ryong would take home the Grand Prix last night.

“Gomawayo,” said Ryu, which means “Thank you” in Korean, in a tone of the intellectually disabled man, Yong-gu, whom he played in the melancholy movie “Miracle in Cell No. 7” as he went up onstage to receive the prize.

Although Ryu, 42, was relatively late in making a debut - in 2004 at age 35 - he rose quickly by starring in three hit films in the past year, “Miracle in Cell No. 7,” “Gwanghae” and “All About My Wife.”

Despite a few drops of rain last night, celebrities walked down the red carpet in their best or worst dresses into the Grand Peace Hall of Kyung Hee University in central Seoul, smiling and waving at cameras and fans in hopes of taking home one of this year’s Paeksang Arts Awards.

Organized by JTBC and Ilgan Sports, this year’s Paeksang Arts Awards seemed to have found charms in “social drama.”

“The Chaser,” an SBS television drama series about a grieving detective father who seeks revenge against corrupt power and JTBC’s “A Wife’s Credential,” that deals with the forbidden romance of a married man and woman but also the zealous private education craze of Gangnam District, took home major awards. In the movie category, “Gwanghae, The Man Who Became King,” that depicts the intense aspiration of a leader, stood out among others, taking home the Grand Prize Picture Award {Grand Prize went to Ryu Seung-ryong (Miracle in Cell No. 7)}, as well as the Director Award and the Screenplay Award {Screenplay Award won by Jeong Byung-gil (Confession of Murder)}.

The Paeksang Arts Awards, the country’s leading awards that encompass the realms of film and television, was established for the morale of the development of Korean pop culture, art and artists in 1965. Yesterday’s Paeksang Arts Awards, which was emceed by actress Kim Ah-joong, actor Joo Won and announcer Oh Sang-jin, was aired live via JTBC from 6 p.m.

In the television category, comedian and TV host Yoo Jae-seok won the Grand Prix. Yoo has been winning grand prizes in numerous awards for being the best in the business. His No. 1 spot for this year’s Paeksang Arts Awards is also for his accomplishment in the SBS variety show, “Running Man,” which secures the No. 1 spot in its time slot with viewers’ ratings, reaching the 20 percent mark each time.

Best Actor and Best Actress in the television category went to actor Son Hyun-joo, 48, from “The Chaser” and actress Kim Hee-ae, 46, from “A Wife’s Credentials.” Son’s 21 years of acting on small screens, followed by impressive acting skills, should’ve given him showers of honors, but he’s been unlucky when it comes to awards. Last night, he finally fulfilled his “long-cherished desire.” On the other hand, this year’s award was Kim’s fifth award at Paeksang since its establishment. She had previously won the Best New Actress, Best Actress and two Grand Prix awards.

The drama “The Chaser” didn’t only make Son smile. It became the most awarded work last night, winning the Best Screenplay Award, and the Best Drama Award.

Unlike previous years, dramas from cable channels like JTBC’s “Wife’s Credentials” and tvN’s “Respond 1997” also achieved good results, presenting the Best Actress Award to Kim and Best New Actress Award to Jeong Eun-ji who starred in the dramas, respectively.

In the movie category, Best Actor and Best Actress awards went to Ha Jeong-woo and Kim Min-hee. Meanwhile, Ji Dae-han, a 12-year-old child actor, who is from a multicultural family, was the youngest winner yesterday, taking home the Best New Actor Award for the film, “My Little Hero.”

Big name Hallyu stars Park Yuchun and Park Shin-hye embraced their third popularity awards for MBC melodrama “Missing You” and box office smash “Miracle in Cell No.7,” respectively.

I've just started watching the series and find it very interesting. Since Midas, I have been a Kim Hee Ae fan. Congratulations to her award win, also.

@Wisteria: Hi, hi!  Fancy seeing you on this thread.

If you backtrack on this thread, you'll see that this was an under-the-radar drama that a small group of us rejoiced in watching.  This drama potentially could have had the best subs from the best subber in the world.  But, his website got caught in the Dramafever's demand to cease and desist and was taken down.  So, he decided not to do subs anymore.

Thankfully, there was one person who was still subbing.  But, it's taken a long time.

@Wisteria:  Last year, I had two favorite dramas.  This drama and Fermentation Family.  But, the topics in this drama and the way the depicted issues resolved were absolutely on target.

And the cherry on top was the fantastic soundtrack, which enhanced the emotions in each scene.   :x  http://wiki.d-addicts.com/A_Wife%27s_Credentials_OST

I just finished watching this drama. Very thoughtful, well acted and directed. There should be more dramas like this one...
Just a couple weeks ago, I wondered what would happen if a kdrama chose to show a married couple in which the wife was the cheater (among other things). Would they still push their ridiculous Every Marriage Should Be Saved!!11! stand? It was interesting to me to see it shown in this drama, in a way... Sure Teacher Hong did divorce (and you could still say the way people reacted to SR vs him was different) but the way Han family reacted to the two cheating incidents tells you something (although Money and Status had a huge part to play too). Here in this drama the narrative wasn't condoning it obviously but you can see that in a lot of kdramas they have this 'wife should bear with everything' belief, even if it's internalized.
Also despite EJ being to 'blame' for the difficult situation SR went through because of her s*** stirring, I was always rooting for her to get what she wanted, over MJ. And in the end you could say she did SR a favor anyway :)) In the end, out of the kids, Yun Jae was the one I felt bad for.

Just started watching this today it is rather brilliant. So amazing I'm totally bowled over. This drama is nothing like any other drama I have seen so far. It's realistic and the acting superb and I just never thought after I started watching it would grab my attention so completely. Everyone should totally watch this it is a masterpiece.

One thing about this drama was the very adult themes and the way the couple expressed their love. She was very demonstrative and that is so rare to see a woman in Kdrama initiate kisses. Also the whole mood and setting was so very realistic you forget it is a drama and just feel like a voyeur watching a neighbour's life. There is so much conveyed without over the top makjang elements and even the cruelty or hardship is not the usual fair and best of all she fights back including hitting her husband. I thought this drama was really a cut above anything I have watched so far.
