The 2NE1 Official Youtube Channel: an instrument for International Success?

Discounting the success of several of 2NE1s MVs such as: Fire ( 27,921,389 views), I Don't Care (20,874,161 Views) as well as Lollipop (34,299,027 Views) ect because they are on the YGEntertainment Youtube Channel. I thought it would be interesting to look at the success of "2NE1s Official Youtube Channel" since it became active on Sep 5th, 2010 and the significance behind this success.

For those of you wondering, what is the point of this? and if the success of Youtube Videos actually impacts significantly on the Artists popularity. The answer is of course! You all see the reaction whenever 2NE1 MVs reaches high on Youtube charts, we get a whole bunch of curious, sometimes weird...but most importantly potential Blackjacks who click on the MV! How many of you discovered 2NE1 by clicking on a random MV?

Youtube has Over 800 million unique users visit to its site each month, from all over the world and in all languages. This makes it one of the world's most important technological tools. In the case of Musicians, it is particularly important, because this is the place which can get you an audience which is Global, without language boundaries and without even having to travel around to gain fans. Have you heard of Justin Bieber? I mean, you probably have, but did you know he got discovered on YouTube?...yes that is the power of Youtube.

I want to also let you in on a secret Once you have a partnership with YouTube partnership (which 2NE1 does). You get paid a certain amount depending on the amount of views on your videos every month. Here is a supposed rundown of the details: Youtube partners will make in the range of $1 to $5 per 1000 video views The most popular stars will earn $5 per 1000 views. This can really add up if you have 1 million views per video and can vary depending on number of advertising clicks. Although the figures are not clearly advertised by Youtube, from various sources it is clear that popular Youtube Channels have the ability to generate revenue for creaters.

Therefore all the crazy Kpop competition we have, about getting the highest views does in fact help our girls in several ways, this is because the success of a Youtube Channel not only helps create a basis to interact with fans, gain more interest globally, but also can make artists some money too!

That being said, here is a fascinating breakdown of the basic statistics of the 2NE1 Youtube Channel and several factors which I thought are interesting to note:

2NE1 is the 190th Most Subscribed Channel on YT and it's also interesting to see that they are the Third Most Subscribed South Korean Channel on Youtube:

Out of all Female Youtube Channels 2NE1 has a high rank of 34th, impressively higher then Global Female artists such as Jessie J, Nicki Minaj and even Beyonce. It's wonderful that our girls are showing their girl power by representing themselves well in this area!

If you look below at the Subscriber projection rate on their Channel, can you notice how 2NE1 consistently gains subscribers everyday? Even when not actively promoting. This means they keep gaining people who want to keep informed about their activities, in other words more BLACKJACKS!

Finally, let us have a look at the ranking of 2NE1s Most Viewed Videos: "I Am the Best" being incredible popular and in just a few Months becoming their Most watched MV!

Nevertheless, it is interesting how a range of 2NE1 MVs also have high views, as well as Likes on Youtube. With a average of 4.80 Rating (Out of 5.00) we see that the quality of the MVs and songs are obviously reaching out to those who watch them! Its also curious too see that IATB has around 135,448 comments on its MV Page, are Blackjacks using it as a chat room?

I hope I have helped a bit in understanding the importance of a Youtube Channels success. YG entertainment has been successful in reaching out to the global community by providing us with wonderful, quality Music Videos and Updates regarding 2NE1. This is obviously reflecting somewhat on the incredible success 2NE1 has internationally today. Continue to support them by watching the MVs, clicking Favorite, clicking on ADs and Liking them. By doing so, not only are you helping to make 2NE1 more accessible to the vast youtube community ...but keep in mind that, every click actually = $ for 2NE1.

Song Jae Rim speaks candidly about the music video he did with CL.

Song Jae Rim, who acted as guard escort, Kim Jae Woon to Lee Hwon (played by Kim Soo Hyun) in MBC’s recently ended Wednesday-Thursday drama, The Moon That Embraces The Sun is seeing his popularity soar lately. His rising popularity is casting a spotlight on his past activities. Among these, the one that has been garnering the most interest is the image he portrayed in a music video with 2NE1′s CL.

In 2010, Song Jae Rim starred as a bad guy in 2NE1′s Go Away music video. In the music video, Song Jae Rim portrayed the bad-guy role he had to play, to near-perfection when he angrily slapped CL in a scene.

Song Jae Rim recently met up with Newsen to speak further about a previous comment he made on the scene, “Bad guy… To be honest, at that time, even I felt that (scene) was too much”.

“That was the direction I received at that time,” Song Jae Rim said. “It’s my job. I didn’t really hit her. Because of the angle, it appeared like I did.”

He continues, “At that time, I thought this. The more of a jerk I act here, the more sympathy CL will receive. This was what I hoped to achieve and that was my intent. The worse I behave, the more pitiful the character CL was portraying in the music video will appear,” he explained.
