just finished watching ep 2 RAW...and boy, that makes me glowing with happiness! although I can never defeat Yeom when it comes to 'glowing' hehehe

seeing bo kyung and yeon woo..I can't help but try to imagine the adult casts saying what they said, and I end up agreeing that kim min seo and han ga in totally suit their roles. bo kyung's haughty self and yeon woo's calmness are something that I can see through kim min seo and han ga in. not saying that min seo is haughty, but she definitely can nail such act. I'm looking forward to their transitions to their adult self. hopefully the adult casts are capable of channeling the same vibes that the child casts have done! I trust the directors, because if they're able to find such good young actors and actresses, so the adult casts shouldn't be any problem :w00t:

my favorite part of episode 2 is when princess min hwa cupped yeom's face in her hands ^_^ and his expression was hilarious!

now waiting for episode 3..hmmm..

hopefully this thread would be merrier once the subs are out..people shouldn't be missing this great piece of drama!

Drama "The Moon Embracing the Sun" gathering high interest

Drama " The Moon Embracing the Sun" gathering high interestOn January 4th, the first episode of MBC's new Wednesday/Thursday drama "The Moon Embracing the Sun" aired, gaining lots of popularity. This popularity is centered around the four flower boys:Woon who has great swordsmanship skills, Yangmyung who has a great pain in his heart, Heoyeom and Lee HwonFurthermore, the actor who plays Lee Hwon as a child is Yeo Jinku, who has acted in popular pieces like the 2005 movie "Sad Movie", and in dramas like "Iljimae," "Ja Myunggo," "Giant" and "Deep Rooted Tree," causing there to be greater interest and greater expectations for the drama.

Furthermore, Lee Minho (not the one from Boys Over Flowers), acting as the role of child Prince Yangmyung, has also acted in popular products like "Thorn Birds" and "High Kick 1," adding to the interest level.

Lim Siwan from the popular idol group ZE:A is also acting in this drama as a mysterious swordsman, dragging in more interest.

As a reaction to the hot topic 4 Flower Boys of this drama, netizens left comments like, "How can we wait one week for the next episode?"

Meanwhile, this drama is about a love story between King Lee Hwon, who is acted by Kim Soohyun from "Dream High," and Han Gain from "Bad Guy."

I think Si Wan of Zea is referred to the article, and he is playing the role of Heo Yeom , the scholar and Yeon Woo's brother, not the mysterious swordsman which is Woon , (Played by Lee Won Geun)

I'm so happy that the drama is well received :-)

Hope there will be subs soon to attract more international fans... None of the subbing teams has decided to sub this show? :-(

book update from Blue :

For those waiting for the new chapters update for our Book Club on The Moon That Embraces the Sun, it’s coming this weekend. Sorry for the delay. I did catch the premiere of the drama this week, and well… they changed the story around a LOT! The young cast was WONDERFUL as expected, but I’m upset with how they changed the story. Liked the original novel version better…  The childhood love story of Yeonwoo and Hwon was pretty magical in the novel. Sigh. That’s coming in the next few chapters. Stay tuned!

IMO, i already expected changes during the course of the screenplay compared to the novel version --this usually happens in dramas/movies being adapted (like Harry Potter and Twilight). I hope i can finish the book , and thanks to Blue for handing out the english /paraphrased version. Despite the substantial difference from the book , I still look forward on how will the writer compressed the novel and brought the story to life.

I am quite interested on the poetry between Hwon and Yeo, because this kind of love story is enthralling and amusing at the same time. to quote from dramabeans :

A monk living in the mountains

desired the moonlight

he saw it floating in his bottle of water and filled it

but at the temple he realized

that if you lean the bottle and pour it out

the moon disappears

Yeon Woo indeed know how to become creative and witty at the same time! oh so love her. even a stoic person would fall for her !

ockoala has kindly translated the rest of the character descriptions. Click here to check them out.

I've only seen bits of the first two episodes, but the child actors were pretty adorable. Though I'm really waiting for Kim Soo-hyun to make his appearance as adult Hwon :P

I finally got to watch the raw eps. Conclusion: I need subs :sweatingbullets:

The child actors were great. And I can see why they were casted due to their acting chops. But I do have a problem in terms of my personal taste for flowerboys. For example, when I first saw the BTS, I thought Siwan would play Yang Myung. Although Lee Minho is a great actor, I think Siwan's looks are more believable in terms of compatibility to Jung Ilwoo's looks. And same with the young Yang Myung and adult Yeom ( now it would have been a different story if Kim Jeon Hoon didn't drop out---I still sigh about that loss :tears: ). I understand though that Lee Minho is a better actor than neophyte Siwan. The other thing that is not 100% believable for me is how Yeon Woo is supposed to be this mystical, ethereal, drop-dead beauty when the actress who is playing her is well..pretty...but when I look at her, all I can see is a pretty child about to bloom, so it's kinda weird to see how Hwon jaw-drop falls in love at her at first sight. Like, in contrast, the scene where women and men swoon at Yeom's feet is totally believable. On the other hand, once she starts acting, I can see why she was casted in the role. Overall I am happy with the acting, but I find only Siwan aesthetically beautiful. Now, I mention personal taste, because for me that is the main factor that decides whether I find a drama squee-worthy or not. For example, I like City Hunter a lot as a drama; but since Lee Minho's ( BFF of Ilwoo) isn't my type, I don't find it as titillating compared to watching let's say acting-zero-but-beautiful-statue Kim Hyun Joong as Yoon Jihu.

Now it's going to be a slight issue for me once the adult actors come in because I like both Kim Soo Hyun and Jung Ilwoo. But these days I like Jung Ilwoo more so it is going to be definitely second lead syndrome for me

Lol Kim Soo Hyun looks like a child actor himself

In your view, between Seol and Min Wa who will win Yeom's heart ?

Koala's character descriptions are awesome! There are a few tiny spoilers in these descriptions so beware.

Character descriptions for Crown Prince Hwon, Yeon Woon/Wol and Prince Yang Myung listed first:

http://koalasplaygro...ns-for-moonsun/

Character desriptions for Bo Kyung, Yeom, Woon, Seol, Princess Minhwa and others listed here:

http://koalasplaygro...sun/#more-19707

There are also character descriptions listed on the first page of this thread that contain spoilers.  (for those of you who are already shipping couples, you might be disappointed) For instance Woon is also in love with Yeon Woo/Wol, (so she has THREE men in love with her blink.gif) Seol and Yeom love each other - even though he marries Princess Minhwa, and Hwon and Bo Kyung marry but never consummate their marriage because he still loves Yeon Woo. phew.gif

This story is spell-binding so far. My new drama addiction. tongue.gif

I couldn't be more in agreement with you here especially the JIW playing the older version of LMH's character because they just don't look like each other and their bone structure is completly different !

@Tessieroo : thank you for the information. I talked about Seol because she the child actress who grabbed my attention because she somewhat acts her age here and I like her type of cuteness. Yeon-woo perfect-girl thing is a little boring and

I like the Seol character too, she's my favorite! I'm also happy that Yeom is in love with her (yes, I ship Yeom with Seol) even though he eventually marries Princess Minhwa. I can't wait for the love story between Yeom and Seol to begin! laugh.gif
