KING ROUGE will be landing on TV screens this year. In the drama, Yang Zi is Thunderchild, a simple and kind woman with supernatural powers, and JO HYUN JAE is XIAO WU KUI, play a pair of righteous and kind companions. In the drama, Yang Zi plays the role of a girl who from childhood had been regarded by other people as a freak because of her strength which often gets her into trouble. To avoid trouble, she and her grandmother had to live outside the village.

However, her grandmother becomes seriously ill, so she dons the village girl costume and used baskets to carry her grandmother to the village to bring her to the village doctor. Because of her grandmother's illness her heart is inconsolable, but in front of the her grandmother she shows strong optimism.

It has been reported that KING ROUGE is produced by top-notch producer Chen Dao Long, and helmed by famous director Wang Chung Kuang, and created by the same production team behind the blockbuster drama MY FAIR PRINCESS.

Both Yang Zi and JO HYUN JAE committed to join the drama because they believe that this inspirational but funny drama will touch/move viewers' heart and will bring new surprises to the audience.

KING ROUGE, the epic drama produced by the Shanghai New Culture Media, Shanghai Chong Yi Culture Communication, Co., Ltd, and by the Chen Dao Long Studios is currently in post production.

The producers of KING ROUGE invited South Korean actor JO HYUN JAE to star as the male lead of the drama. He plays XIAO WUKUI, heir to a safeguard escort agency, the embodiment of a master of the Republic era. The female lead of the drama is Yang Zi. The 2 actors will match wits as they stage a disguise to escape from the clutches of their enemies, not even hesitating to make themselves ugly as called for by the story/script.

In the drama, JO HYUN JAE who plays the young master XIAO WUKUI, heir to a safeguard escort agency, and Yang Zi' who plays Thunderchild, are born on the same year, same month, and same day. On the day they are born there will be a thunderstorm, thus is born a pair of quarrelsome lovers.

Xiao WuKui is born weak, while THunderchild will be endowed with supernatural strength. WuKui's family is rich, excellent in many respects, while Thunderchild's family is poor. Despite the extreme differences in their lives, their meeting is pre-ordained/destined/fated.

Thunderchild, whose unusual strength borne of her supernatural powers, is regarded as a freak/monster by her fellow villagers. Because of this she and her grandmother will be driven out of their village and will be forced to seek refuge up in the mountain.

On her way up to the mountain, Thunderchild will meet Xiao WuKui by chance. Yes, that boy who was born the same night Thunderchild was born, the heir to the safeguard escort agency. The sickly Xiao WuKui, in turn, is on his way to the south to learn martial arts under the Taoist master, and, at the same time, improve his physical strength.

However, due to a strange series of circumstances young master WuKui will be abandoned by his companions and will end up with Thunderchild as they run for their lives to escape from the clutches of their enemies. Thus will begin the career of these 2 as escape artists!

In this scene, the normally elegant, suave and romantic JO HYUN JAE, out of fear of being recognized by his enemies, will disguise himself as a farmer. He will wear ragged clothes and a straw hat, his face will be covered with a beard, one eye covered by an eye patch. The production crew also prepared a disguise that will make him look like he is grimacing. He will be on foot most of the time as he pulls a horse carriage - no horses though, just donkeys!

For Yang Zi, KING ROUGE is her first TV series where she transitions from child star to adult actress. As Thunderchild she will forego looking nice and pretty, she will even disguise herself as a man.

Running for their lives WuKui and Thunderchild will match wits as they stage their disguise to escape their enemies. This initial encounter will be the beginning of their love-hate entanglement!

KING ROUGE, the large-scale modern melodrama produced by the Shanghai New Culture Media Group, Limited, and the Chen DaoLong Studios successfully ended filming late last year, and has now entered the intense post-production phase.

KR can be considered to be a product of the use of the new culture media. Through a careful analysis of the market, the producers are launching the first era of the legendary comedy. Fully tapping the power of the internet, the producers analysed current trends in preferred story lines, and favorite actors/actresses of younger audiences, the producers came up with the idea for the inspirational story of the legendary female safeguard escort.

KR's brightest spots are its excellent production team, and an ensemble of strong actors.

After a careful market research, KR producers decided to invite popular South Korean actor JO HYUN JAE to be its main actor. JHJ is the first Korean actor to take on the role of a modern Chinese young master of the Republic era. JHJ was chosen not just for his popularity but also because his temperament is the perfect embodiment of the character XIAO WUKUI.

KR is JHJ's first foray into the Chinese performing industry. Despite the difficulties he encountered at the beginning of filming, he was able to adjust to the Chinese filming environment very quickly. With KR, JHJ has successfully positioned himself in the Chinese domestic entertainment market. His popularity among the Chinese has risen despite the fact that KR has not been broadcast yet.

KR's female lead is Yang Zi, already a well-known child actress in Mainland China prior to KR. In the drama, she will change her image from child actress to a young adult. The producers chose her for the role of Thunderchild because her real-life personality and experiences have similarities to Thunderchild.

In the drama, Thunderchild will experience an innocent first love. In real life, YZ is also at that stage where she transitions from a girl to a woman - having the same dreams, and displaying the same persistent efforts to achieve her goals as Thunderchild.

In addition, Shanghai New Culture Media Group also invited the famous Chinese comedian Gou DeGang and Jiang Chao to increase the drama's comedic flavor. With Gou DeGang in the drama is additional guarantee for the drama to do well in the domestic TV ratings when KR finally airs.

KR also invited competent Hongkong actor Danny Lee, and Chinese actress Liang Li. Chen Zi Yan and Wang JinDuo, 2 new generation Mainland China artists, also join KR to make up the main cast of the drama.

@prissymom, I would like to watch this drama as well, wonder where to watch it online with eng subs cuz normally quite a lot of Chinese dramas get subbed but very slowly. I like JHJ and also want to give Yang Zi a second chance for I could not finish her "Battle of changsha" where she costarred with Wallace Wu.

As far as I know, this drama has not been English-subbed yet. If I ever find an Eng-subbed version I will post the link on this thread.
