since everyone has been talking about having a pinned double eyelid thread, i decided to take the initiative. lol.

i'll just copy and paste what the website from where i went to get mine done says.

Am I a good candidate for aesthetic eyelid surgery?

Any one or combination of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery:

---excess skin obscuring the natural fold of the upper eyelids

---loose skin hanging down from the upper eyelids, perhaps impairing vision

---puffy appearance to the upper eyelids, making the eyes look tired

---excess skin and fine, creepy wrinkles of the lower eyelids

---bags and dark circles under the eyes, often with a depression along the bony border of the lower eyelids

---droopiness of the lower eyelids, showing white below the iris (colored portion of the eye)

Aesthetic eyelid surgery can usually correct these problems, though other treatments may also need to be considered.

Your Personal Consultation

During the initial consultation, you may be asked to look in a mirror and point out exactly what you would like to see improved.

This will help your plastic surgeon to understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved.

How will my plastic surgeon evaluate me for aesthetic eyelid surgery?

You should come to the consultation prepared to discuss you medical history including previous surgeries, past and present medical conditions and current medications.

It is important for you to provide complete information.

One of several surgical techniques may be suggested to improve the appearance of your eyelids.

The particular technique that your plastic surgeon recommends will depend on may factors such as the amount of excess fat and skin in the eyelid areas, the position of your eyebrows, and the condition of muscles around your eyelids.

How Aesthetic Eyelid Surgery is Performed

1> Suture ligation method (non-incision type)

2> External incision method

Because of individual factors, not everyone will achieve the same results from eyelid surgery.

Your plastic surgeon will select the surgical technique that he or she feels will obtain the best outcome for you.

For upper eyelid surgery, generally an incision is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid and extends slightly beyond the outside corner into the laugh lines or other existing creases.

Through this incision, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed.

Because the incision follows the natural contour of the upper eyelid, it will be well camouflaged when healed.

How will I look and feel initially?

It is important to realize that the amount of time it takes for recovery varies greatly among individuals.

The first evening after surgery, you should rest quietly with your head elevated.

Your surgeon may instruct you to apply cold compresses to your eyelids.

Remember, you must not take aspirin or certain anti-inflammatory medications.

Initially, you may feel a "tight" sensation around the eyes and some mild discomfort that can be controlled with oral medication.

During the first 48 hours following surgery, patients experience varying degrees of swelling and bruising.

Some patients find that mild swelling persist for several weeks, while others may see swelling resolve in as little as one week.

Bruising typically disappears within seven to ten days.

Within the first week you will be permitted to use makeup, if desired, to conceal any discoloration.

Stitches are usually removed within a week of surgery.

Your vision may continue to be somewhat blurry for a few days or longer.

Your eyes may be temporarily sensitive to light, and you may experience excess tearing or dryness.

You may want to wear dark sunglasses for a couple of weeks to protect your eyes from wind and sun irritation.

When can I resume my normal activities?

Straining, bending and lifting should be avoided during the early postoperative period.

In many instances, you will be able to resume most of your normal activities within ten days or less.

Although you might feel like going back to work just a few days after surgery, your vision may still be slightly blurry which could make reading or other paperwork more difficult.

Results of Your Eyelid Surgery

Aesthetic eyelid surgery has the effect of making you look more rested, refreshed and alert.

Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait at least several weeks to get an accurate picture of the results of your eyelid surgery.

Incisions will fade over a number of months until they become barely visible.

How long will the results last?

The results of aesthetic eyelid surgery are long-lasting, but they may be affected by your heredity and lifestyle factors.

Removal of fat from your eyelids, which is usually the cause of puffiness and bags, is permanent, and these conditions generally will not recur.

The skin continues to age, however, and skin laxity along the fine wrinkling of the eyelid area may, at some point, return.

Sometimes loss of tone in the forehead causes additional sagging of the eyebrows which mimics a recurrence of drooping upper eyelids.

if this happens, correction may require a forehead lift or a secondary eyelid procedure.

Even though the aging process continues, patients are usually happy with their appearance for many years following eyelid surgery.

Some patients find that they want to make additional improvements at a later time.

my personal experience:

okay well while i was still in the states, my mom called them to make an appointment. they said that i could have my consultation and surgery on the same day, so we agreed to do that.

soooo june 5th [my surgery day] comes along and i go and wait to see the doctor. once i go in, i told him what procedure i wanted done. i told him i wanted my fold to be big so that i could have bigger eyes. he did his consulting and told me several factors for why i shouldnt have my fold big. few were protruding eye, low brow line, and stuff like that. these were things that no one has ever noticed on me. he also took his stick and did a few different folds on me and asked me what i liked. i just said i don't care and to do whatever is best for me. haha. so he told me that i should do the partial incision where the incision is only half way across the eyelid and also the medial canthoplasty. he told me that most young people do partial incision and that it's the most common one to do. i asked about the canthoplasty on the outer corner and he said that the result of that is only 1/10th of that of the medial canthoplasty and can be seen as insignificant. he also said that he doesn't recommend that procedure to anyone unless it's like a medical condition type thing or if they insist it. oh and he took a before picture.

so then when all of the consultation is done, it was time for the actual thing. i wasn't as nervous as i thought i would be. first i just layed on the operating table/bed/whatever and then they got this towel and made sure my hair was out of the way. then they cleaned my face and eyes and stuff. this was all done by the nurse who's really nice. ummm and then the doctor came in and made some marks on my eyes to see where to cut. after taht he put in the anesthetic shots. this procedure is done under local anesthesia meaning you are awake for the whole thing. these shots were the worst part of the procedure. i have absolutely no pain tolerance and it wasn't THAT bad, although i was tearing like crazy. i remember him putting three shots on each eyelid, but i forgot how many for the inner corner. he told me that if i strain or move during the procedure i'll get more bruising and swelling, which is totally true. my left eye hurt for the shots more than my right eye so i put a lot of strain while he was doing that and that eye had more bruising. then after putting the shots you just wait for the anesthesia to kick in. oh yeah and the light is unbelievably bright. i think that might be worse than the shots. haha. i couldn't feel any pain during the procedure except the occasional pinching, but nothing too bad. i felt pulling and some pressure and i guess he could tell i felt it since my legs were all moving around and he just explained that he was taking the fat out. the whole thing took like 30 minutes, maybe 40. during the operation he told me to open my eyes a few times and then to sit up and he looked at me face to face while i was sitting up like twice.

after that, the nurse took me to the "recovery room" i guess and gave me an ice pack thingy for the eyes and told me i had to lay for 20 minutes. mind you, up until this time i hadn't looked at myself yet. there was a huge mirror next to the bed and when the nurse left i HAD to look. to tell you the truth i thought i was going to die because i hated the way i looked. it was horrible and i was scared to look at my face. the reason why is because i didn't open my eyes all of the way and so i could see all of the stitches and stuff. haha. but anyway, i quickly recovered from that after opening my eyes properly lol. after the 20 minutes i put on my sunglasses and went home. i had no pain, except a little stinging, but nothing like putting hydrogen peroxide on a wound or anything. ummmm i had to take like three pills, three times a day, 30 minutes after each meal for a few days. i'm guessing it was antibiotics. he also prescribed some pain killers for me, but i didn't use them because i didn't need to. also they told me to do the ice thing as much as i could and also to practice opening my eyes big. i did the ice thing like 3 times for 10 minutes each. i didn't like doing the ice thing so i kind of cheated on that lol, but you guys should do it since the more you do it, the better.

the next day i went in to get my eyes cleaned and medicated. then i went 2 or 3 days after that to get my stitches on my eyelid taken out. the next day i went to get the ones from the corner of my eyes taken out. it pinched a bit, but it wasn't bad whent hey took it out. thennn i visited them again before i left korea and they took pictures and all that stuff and the nurses and the doctor said i healed REALLY fast.

i wore my sunglasses everywhere for a couple of days after the surgery. in less than a week i was going around just in my regular glasses.

ummm i paid 1,300,000 wons which is a little bit more than $1,300 usd.

oh and dr. park can speak english well so that shouldn't be a problem. he actually talked to me in english although i'm pretty fluent in korean.

-soo this is abouttttttt 2 months after the surgery. sorry these pics are kinda bad. i can't do it like i did the previous pictures anymore. i forgot how i did those haha. and my eyelashes get in the way....i'll try to take better pictures later lol. and the stupid mosquito bite scar is still there...i didnt notice it until now. damn mosquitos.

picture updateeeeeee 1/5/06 which issss exactly 7 months from my surgery date! haha except the open eye pictures are from a few days ago but whatever haha. oh and the closed eye pictures everyone's been asking for :] i didn't have much scarring. i tried to pick out the pictures where it showed the most scarring so yeah. that kind of gives you an idea :]

-this is more like my skin color...i dont know why i come out so dark but i'm really disgustingly white in real life according to my family and friends :|

you're eyes look really good! i didn't even notice the mosquito bite in the last pic until you pointed it out!

about the shots in the eye thing, whenever ppl get anaesthetic or botox put near their eye, i always wondered how that felt like? is it worse than plucking/waxing/threading your eyebrows? i know this sounds super weird but i'm soooo interested in the whole pain factor for surgery like this.

btw, super kudos to you for taking the time out to help other members and post your pics and stuff =)

ive never waxed or threaded my eyebrows, but it hurts more than plucking lol. honestly, i dont even remember how bad the pain was. i just know that it did hurt, but it was just an instant thing for like...a couple instances. haha.

okay. i just had my eyelid surgery/upper bleph like 3 weeks ago. before, i had no eyelids whatsoever. my eyes were really small. so i decided to have an eyelid surgery. lots of ppl have the surgery, why shouldnt i? so i went to a doctor, he's a vietnamese doctor but he's really good. i had my surgery after my high school graduation.

my procedure surgery was exactly the same as yours. on the day of the surgery, i didnt eat anything for the whole day. i went in. the nurse did the IV part on my arm. that's the worst part. it hurt! then i waited till the doctor come. he took a stick and did something with my eyes and drew the mark there. then he took me into the surgery room.

then they washed my face with some soap (?). then covered my face with a cloth with the hole in both eyes. then they did the shot in both eyes. i dont really remember if it hurt or not. then i was under local anesthesia. i was half awake, half sleeping during the surgery. i really wanted to sleep but couldn't. and i still heard the doctor talking to his assistant. then during the surgery, he asked me some questions. he was nice!. then they did their stuff. sometimes they told me to open my eyes, close it, look that way. stuff like that. it didnt hurt at all. not at all. then they were done after 20 mins. it was fast! then they took me in a "recovery room", took the IV out. then i waited for like 10 mins so that i was fully awake. then i was taken home. they gave me the icepack to keep the swelling.

i had to take the next day off of skul cuz my eyes were swollen so bad. then i took some medicines for the next few days to keep the swelling. then a week after, i went to get my stitches out. but it was still swollen that time. the doctor said that it will become normal after a month. he just told me to clean it carefully or otherwise, it will still be swollen.

im so glad that i did have the surgery. i look totally different now. no more chinky eyes! lolz. some ppl said that the doctor did a good job on my eyes. they look good! (yah!). worth the $$. lolzz.

oh yeah and some ppl that had eyelid surgery b4, they said that i have to avoid like seafood or some kind of meats. if i eat those, my eyes will be swollen like for a long time or the flesh will turn purple/red or something like that.

so yeah. ppl with no eyelids should have the surgery. it doesnt hurt at all. not at all. and the result comes out really nice! and it's not that pricy. i recommend you do that. it does change you. in an helpful way.

im glad that u started the thread. so that we could share some experience.
