STORY SYNOPSIS:

49 DAYS is the story of Shin Ji Hyun, a young woman who gets into a car accident a week before her wedding.  The accident led to her being in a coma.  To revive she has to gather the genuine/sincere tears of 3 people who are not members of her family within 49 days.  To fullfill her mission she will be guided by the Scheduler into possessing the body of another woman, Song Yi Kyung.  She will be aided further by her friend from high school Han Kang, who will then get into an entangled relationship with Song Yi Kyung and Shin Ji Hyun.

HAN KANG (Jo Hyun Jae)
Architect/Designer, graduate of a prestigious American university, operates a wine bar.  Loves Shin Ji-Hyun (NGR), but cannot express his feelings because of complicated misunderstanding.  From Song Yi Kyung (LYW) he is the first to realize that Ji Hyun’s soul has returned, so he tries his best to have her revived.

She hasn’t gotten over the death of her boyfriend and gives up on living.  She lives as if she is an inanimate being.  Even unaware herself, she ends up handing over her sleeping body to Ji-hyun Shin.  As Ji Hyun’s soul possesses her body, it becomes a turning point in her life.

He is a scheduler, who guides the dead to the afterlife.  He has a “pretty-boy” image and is the very definition of the word “carefree.”  He himself doesn’t remember his previous life at all.  He ends up managing Ji Hyun because of her unscheduled death.

He is the fiance of Ji Hyun. He is cheerful, confident, generous, and friendly with a warm smile. However, he is also full of pride and self-loving in a twisted way due to a deprived childhood. Things start to go wrong as Ji Hyun’s accident occurs right before the wedding.

Note about Ji Hyun's Song:

This song has many versions.  The original of this song is Italian with the official title "Fenesta ca lucive" (The Window that Shined/The Illuminated Window- thanks to emy_rose for the info).  However, the different versions used in the drama are by Korean singers.  As of episode 18 the song has been used in 5 scenes:

1. Ep 7.  Han Kang (HK) is lying on the couch at his place while listening to this song.  The version played is titled "Wish/Hope" in Korean (thanks to shirley for the info).

2. Ep 9.  Towards the end of this episode JH/JK plays the piano at HK's wine bar.  HK hears this and is transported back to his and JH's high school days.  The version JH sings is Korean.  

3. Ep 10.  The Italian version of this song by a Korean singer is playing in the background as HK holds the bracelet in his hand.

4. Ep 14.  Italian version played in the background when HK and JH/YK were having one of their awkward moments while at his place.

5. Ep 18.  Hospital scene, wedding anniversary of JH's parents.  The Italian version is played on the player, while JH's soul sings the Korean version.

Jo Hyun Jae’s comeback drama – SBS’s “49 days” on Wednesdays & Thursdays

Actor Jo Hyun Jae returns to TV as the protagonist in a new SBS drama “49 Days” (working title).

Jo Hyun Jae’s new drama ”49 Days” is scheduled to broadcast in March on SBS, following “Sign”.

“49 Days” production staff tells Star News on Jan. 4 morning: “Jo Hyun Jae’s comeback drama has been decided. The agreement appears to be verbal and the contract is under preparation.”

Jo Hyun Jae was discharged on June 19, 2010 and has chosen to return to the entertainment world with “49 Days”. It has been nearly three years since his last drama on KBS2 “3 Dads/1 Mom” was aired in May 2008.

“49 Days” is the work of scriptwriter So Hyun Kyung whose previous dramas “A Brilliant Legacy” and “Prosecutor Princess” have all been winners. The story is about a woman who falls into a coma for 49 days after a car accident, and who can only be revived if there are three people (apart from her parents) to cry for her three genuine/sincere drops of tears.

JHJ plays a character who is involved in a complex, entangled relationship with the coma victim (to be played by Nam Gyu Ri) and the woman into whose body her soul is trying to enter (to be played by Lee Yo Won.)

Actor Jo Hyun Jae returns to TV as the protagonist in a new SBS drama “49 Days” (working title).

Jo Hyun Jae’s new drama ”49 Days” is scheduled to broadcast in March on SBS, following “Sign”.

“49 Days” production staff tells Star News on Jan. 4 morning: “Jo Hyun Jae’s comeback drama has been decided. The agreement appears to be verbal and the contract is under preparation.”

Jo Hyun Jae was discharged on June 19, 2010 and has chosen to return to the entertainment world with “49 Days”. It has been nearly three years since his last drama on KBS2 “3 Dads/1 Mom” was aired in May 2008.

“49 Days” is the work of scriptwriter So Hyun Kyung whose previous dramas “A Brilliant Legacy” and “Prosecutor Princess” have all been winners. The story is about a woman who falls into a coma for 49 days after a car accident, and who can only be revived if there are three people (apart from her parents) to cry for her three genuine/sincere drops of tears.

JHJ plays a character who is involved in a complex, entangled relationship with the coma victim (to be played by Nam Gyu Ri) and the woman into whose body her soul is trying to enter (to be played by Lee Yo Won.)

배우 조현재가 SBS 새 수목드라마 ‘49일’(가제) 남자주인공으로 안방극장에 컴백한다.

조현재는 SBS가 ‘싸인’ 후속으로 오는 3월께 방송 예정인 ‘49일’에 캐스팅됐다.

‘49일’ 제작 관계자는 4일 오전 머니투데이 스타뉴스에 “조현재가 컴백 복귀작으로 ‘49일’을 결정했다”며 “물론 아직 계약서에 도장을 찍지 않았지만 구두로 출연을 합의하고 준비 중”이라고 밝혔다.

이로써 조현재는 지난해 6월19일 전역 후 ‘49일’로 복귀한다. 안방복귀는 입대 전 2008년 5월 종영한 KBS 2TV ‘아빠셋 엄마하나’ 이후 3년여 만이다.

‘49일’은 ‘찬란한 유산’ ‘검사 프린세스’ 등으로 필력을 인정받은 소현경 작가의 작품. 교통사고로 혼수상태에 빠진 한 여인이 49일 안에 부모를 제외하고 자신을 위해 진심으로 울어줄 3명의 눈물 3방울을 얻으면 다시 살아난다는 얘기를 다루고 있다.

조현재는 극중 교통사고로 혼수상태에 빠진 지연(남규리 분)의 영혼이 들어간 송이경(이요원 분)과 얽히고설킨 관계를 형성할 한강을 연기할 예정이다.

JHJ’s first comeback drama after discharge – “49 Days” – confirmed!

Actor Jo Hyun-Jae is confirmed as the lead actor in the drama “49 Days”.

JHJ has been looking for a comeback drama since his discharge on June 19, 2010. He is now expected to make his comeback in the SBS Wed./Thurs. drama “49 Days”. It has been a long time since his last drama, so JHJ is most eager and enthusiastic to give his all in this role.

His management company Star N Hit indicates: “Because of his confidence in the director and the scriptwriter, he immediately decided to take up this project. This is a much-anticipated project of the first half of 2011.”

In addition, JHJ will use this drama as the starting point to proceed with fan meetings and promotion as a Hallyu star, not just in Korea but also in other Asian countries.

“49 Days” is written by the star-scriptwriter of “A Brillant Legacy” and “Prosecutor Princess”. It is scheduled to be broadcast in March, following “Sign”. Casting of Nam Gyu-Ri and Jung Il-Woo has been confirmed. Also, Li Yo-Won is a strong candidate for lead actress.

This is interesting; actors Jo Hyun Jae, Lee Yo Won, Jung Il Woo, Nam Ryu Ri and Bae Soo Bin are casted to appear in a new romantic fantasy drama ’49 days’ (tentative title). ’49 days’ will air after the forensic drama ‘Sign’ finishes in March 2011 on SBS.

Jo Hyun Jae returns to small screen after his military service, while Lee Yo Won returns after her last role in ‘Queen Seon Deok’, and for Jung Il Woo, I have been looking out for his next project. Jung became a household name in ‘Unstoppable High Kick (2006)’ then moved to play the lead in drama ‘The Return of Iljimae’ (2009). He also appeared in ‘Take care young lady’ (2009) playing the other love interest of Yoon Eun Hye. After appearing in dramas, he moved to stage plays, playing a homosexual in ‘The beautiful Sunday’.

In ’49 days’, Jung Il Woo will play the character Song Yi Soo who collects souls of people after they die, Nam Gyu Ri plays Sin Ji Hyeon who enters coma because of a traffic accident, her soul is transferred to Song Yi Yeong by Lee Yo Won. The script is written by So Hyun Kyung who have worked on ‘Prosecutor princess’ and ‘Brilliant Legacy’.

Seems like the soul exchange concept will continue in dramas from Korea after ‘Secret Garden’, nonetheless, the casts look great and the story sounds interesting. Something to look out for in 2011.

Haa! Hope Lee Yo Won will take the drama for us to have the opportunity to see her back on tv!!  

But i'm wondering.. Who is the female lead ? Apparently they're talking as if Lee yo Won character is the main lead but Nam Gyuri is the one who is in a coma and try to "take" her body for a while with JIW and BSB and maybe JHJ as love interest.. Doesnt it seems more like Nam Gyuri is the main lead ?

Maybe its not important to some people ahha but if I want LYW back in a new drama it would be to be a 1rst lead.. To see her getting heartbroken because she isnt the chosen one.. I'll pass
