Synopsis:

A series of mysterious murders plagues 18th century Joseon. Reigning King Jeongjo who suspects that the murders are meant to conceal money laundering activities by high-ranking government officials, commissions the nation's top detective (Kim Myung Min) to investigate.

On the first day of the secret mission, the detective survives an assassination attack with the help of quick-witted dog seller Han Seo Pil (Oh Dal Su), who eventually becomes his partner. Armed with the only clue to the mystery, the alpine monkshood (flower), they head off to Juksung where they meet Han Gaek Ju (Ha Ji Min), an influential merchant who is actually a central figure in the case.

As the duo delves into the mystery with the aid of Han Gaek Ju, they discover a massive conspiracy that will shake the whole nation of Joseon...

Sageuk lovers, rejoice! Kim Myung Min will soon be reborn as the Sherlock Holmes of the Joseon Kingdom!

Kim Myung Min has selected his next project even before his latest movie Man of Vendetta has hit the theaters. For the new movie "Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong: The Secret of Yulnyumoon" (working title), Kim Myung Min will play the role of Jeong Yak Yong, a brilliant scholar who had a keen eye for investigation.

This historical-mystery-comedy film is the adaptation of the second novel in the Baektappa/ 백탑파detective series penned by well-known historical novelist Kim Tak Hwan, one of the authors of the novels from which 2004 drama, The Immortal Yi Soon Shin was based.

The movie will be directed by Kim Suk Yoon, who helmed the movie (2006) and drama (2004) versions of Old Miss Diary. Filming is due to start in the middle of August.

Now, can you picture Bad Family's Oh Dal Gun and Open City's Jo Dae Young wearing traditional clothes a la Yi Soon Shin? I can't wait! teeth_smile.gif

A detective film next for Kim Myung-min

Kim Myung-min is in the last stages of finalizing his contract for a new project, wherein he plays a detective in a historical film, Joseon Detective Jung Yak-yong.

The movie is adapted from a mystery novel called Secret of the Gate of Virtue by famous historical novelist Kim Tak-hwan — why, by the way, also wrote the novel for Immortal Lee Soon-shin, which was the drama that made Kim famous and earned him his first Daesang award. Directing is Kim Seok-yoon, who did both the television and film versions of Old Miss Diary, and filming will commence once casting is finalized.

Kim Myung-min recently finished filming the thriller Demolished Man, in which he plays a minister who loses his faith in God when his daughter is abducted; he goes after the criminal (played by Eom Ki-joon in his first villain role) who makes contact eight years later. It will release in July.

Kim Myung Min's new movie starts production

Kim Myung Min's latest movie project, Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong: The Secret of Yulnyumoon (working title), in which he plays the title character, will begin production on September 3.

This sageuk project will employ CGI animation in its storytelling, and the production crew will shoot the scenes for CGI production on the first week of filming. Kim Myung Min will start filming his scenes on September 7.

Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong will be Kim Myung Min's second sageuk project, after 2004's KBS drama The Immortal Lee Soon Shin, which turned Kim Myung Min into a household name, and propelled him into the ranks of top actors in South Korea.

Jeong Yak Yong starts filming earlier than expected

The official start of production for Kim Myung Min's new  movie, Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong: The Secret of Yulnyumoon , has been rescheduled to tomorrow (September 2) instead of Friday, September 3. For the first 5 days, the crew will shoot the images needed for computer generated (CGI) scenes.

Kim Myung Min will be at the set tomorrow to support the cast and crew on the first day of filming. However, he will start filming his scenes on September 7 as scheduled.

Meanwhile, the prayer ceremony of Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong was held today and it was attended by the cast and the production staff.

Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong is helmed by Old Miss Diary (movie and drama) director,  Kim Suk Yoon, and produced by Chungnyung Films. It is targetted to be released on Lunar New Year 2011.

Kim Myung Min will start filming his new movie, Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong: The Secret of Yulnyumoon on September 7.

  Shooting for the first scenes will take place in Danyang, a well-known tourist town which is about 2.5 hours drive south of Seoul. Specifically, the filming location is in one of the "Eight Creat Sceneries in Danyang" in which the town is most famous for.

Production for Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong: The Secret of Yulnyumoon kicked off on September 3, and it is expected to wrap-up by mid-December 2010 for a release on Chinese New Year 2011.

Han Ji-min joins Kim Myung-min in mystery film             by dramabeans

Actress Han Ji-min (Cain and Abel) has been chosen as the co-star to Kim Myung-min in the upcoming movie Joseon Detective Jung Yak-yong.

Kim’s involvement was announced earlier this summer, and he’ll take the titular detective role. The period mystery film is based on a novel (Secret of the Gate of Virtue), and tells the story of a detective working on the case of a woman’s suicide.

Han has been cast as a “mysterious merchant,” and Oh Dal-soo (The Good, The Bad, The Weird) takes a supporting role. The movie began filming on September 2, and plans to release early next year.

This will be Han’s first acting project since 2009′s Cain and Abel; Kim’s last role was in the thriller movie The Demolished Man, which released earlier this year.

Kim Myung Min is "Kim Jin"

"Kim Jin" is the name of Kim Myung Min's character in his new movie, Joseon Detective (working title). Film actor Oh Dal Su (The Servant (2010), Thirst (2009), The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008)) will play the role of "Lee Myung Bang", Kim Jin's good friend who assists him in the secret investigation of the death of a woman who allegedly committed suicide. Actress Han Ji Min will portray the yet to be named mysterious lady merchant.

Joseon Detective is loosely based on the second novel in the fictional mystery series by best-selling author, Kim Tak Hwan, who also wrote other famous novels that were adapted into film and TV such as The Immortal Lee Soon Shin (KBS, 2004-2005) and Hwang Jin Yi (KBS2, 2006).

The movie started production in early September, and its target release date is on Lunar New Year 2011. Old Miss Diary's Kim Seok Yun directs.

Remember the Showbox event on October 10 in Pusan where Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong was officially presented to the public? Did you know that each movie was presented through a video presentation?

For Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong,  the video presentation consisted of a footage of the movie and a clip where Kim Myung Min talks about his role.  He filmed the video about three weeks ago.

Now, I wish I could get hold of that introductory video....very soon! Can't wait to see Kim Myung Min transform into a Joseon-era detective! smile.png

It's Han Seo Pil (played by Oh Dal Su)!  He's a merchant who also doubles as the trusted assistant of Jeong Yak Yong (Kim Myung Min) in the upcoming movie, Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong.  Together, the crime-solving duo will try to unlock the mystery behind the suicide of a woman.

Watch out for Joseon Detective Jeong Yak Yong in early 2011!

Joseon Detective filming is halfway done

Joseon's top detective is slowly getting there!

According to the Twitter account of Peter Kim, CEO of Chungnyun Films that produces the movie, filming of Joseon Detective: Secret of the Alpine Monkshood (literal title) is halfway done and is now in the final phase of production!

Meanwhile, photoshoot for the teaser posters is scheduled to take place tomorrow, November 4. The posters will be released within the month.

Joseon Detective stars Kim Myung Min and Oh Dal Su as Joseon's Sherlock Holmes - Watson duo, and supported by Han Ji Min. The movie will be released in South Korea on Lunar New Year 2011.
