레드카펫의 계절이 돌아왔다②…남녀주연상 향방은?

오는 20일 열리는 청룡영화상과 내달 4일 열리는 대한민국영화대상의 남녀주연상 부문 트로피는 누구에게 돌아갈까. 올해 각종 영화제에서는 김윤석의 상복이 넘쳤다. 대종상영화제에서 남우주연상을 받았고 춘사영화제에서는 하정우와 함께 공동수상했다. 한국영화평론가협회가 선정하는 영평상에서는 ‘영화는 영화다’의 소지섭이 트로피를 안게 됐다. 여우주연상은 제각각이었다. 대종상에서는 ‘세븐데이즈’의 김윤진이 트로피에 입을 맞췄고 춘사영화제에서는 이미연이 ‘어깨너머의 연인’으로 여우주연상을 수상했다. 영평상은 ‘님은 먼곳에’의 수애에게 돌아갔다.

▶추격자들이나 놈들이냐, ‘별들의 전쟁’ 남우주연상 부문

남우주연상 부문은 사상 유례없이 뜨거운 각축전이 될 것으로 보인다. 내로라 하는 톱스타들이 대거 나섰다. ‘놈놈놈’의 송강호 이병헌 정우성, ‘추격자’의 하정우 김윤석, ‘강철중’의 설경구, ‘고고70’의 조승우에 ‘영화는 영화다’의 소지섭까지 가세했다. ‘눈에는 눈 이에는 이’의 차승원 한석규나 ‘아내가 결혼했다’의 김주혁도 지나칠 수 없는 경쟁자들.

우열을 가늠할 수 없는 남자톱스타들이 대거 경쟁구도를 펼침에 따라 올해는 남우주연상 부문의 공동수상의 가능성도 배제할 수 없다. 예를 들어 ‘추격자’에서 쫓는 자와 쫓기는 자로 출연한 김윤석이나 하정우, ‘놈놈놈’에서 송강호, 이병헌, 정우성 등은 주?조연을 가리기도 어려운 비슷한 비중인데다 어느 한 배우만 고르기도 곤혹스러운 상황이기 때문이다. 한 작품에서 공동수상자가 나오거나 두 배우가 각기 다른 영화로 트로피를 나눠받는 상황이 나오지 않으리라 장담할 수 없다.

조승우는 국내 배우로는 드물게 본격 음악영화에서 노래와 연기 모두 뛰어난 성취를 이뤄냈고 ‘강철중’의 설경구는 무려 3편의 시리즈에서 연속 타이틀롤을 맡아 흥행에 성공시킨 공이 높다. 김주혁은 ‘아내가 결혼했다’에서 남성 심리를 뛰어나게 묘사했고 영화에서는 신인급인 ‘영화는 영화다’의 소지섭은 누구나 인정하는 올해 시상식 최고의 ‘다크호스’다.

▶여성영화의 성취, 여우주연상

여우주연상 부문의 유력 후보로는 시상식을 가장 가까이 앞두고 흥행과 호평, 두 마리 토끼를 잡은 ‘아내가 결혼했다’의 손예진과 ‘님은 먼곳에’의 수애가 첫 손가락에 꼽힌다. 연초 ‘무방비도시’의 소매치기역으로 변신하기도 했던 손예진은 공백없이 작품활동을 계속하고 있는 배우로서의 성실함과 안정된 연기력, 빼어난 미모와 이미지를 활용하는 재능이 최근 관객과 평단의 호평으로 이어지고 있다. ‘님은 먼곳에’의 수애는 ‘영화는 흥행에 실패했지만 수애는 살아남았다’는 말이 공공연할 정도로 작품 속에서 자신만의 매력을 빛냈다.

hi helena, thanks for the info. can you enlighten me just a little since your such a guru in korean entertainment, how does the award shows works? i mean in terms of nominees. if my memory serves me right, Seven Days was late last year, how can it still be nominated? Im not saying Kim Yu Jin doesnt deserve to be nominated, im just a little confused.

cause in the States, like in the Oscars and Golden Globe, a film should be shown in cinemas on/or before December 31 to be eligible for a nomination, in Korean it seems to be so different. Do you happen to know if they have a time frame or something..? thanks!

Yes, there is a time frame which is different for each award show.

For this year's Blue Dragon, the review period is 2007.10.25 to 2008.10.30; any movie shown during this period is eligible. Seven Days was released on 2007-11-14; My Wife Got Married opend on 2008-10-23. I didn't look up the cut off period for this year's Korea Film Award.

^ Yes, I'm so happy for SYJ. She's already won by being nominated, win-or-lose is dependent on the judges. I haven't seen most of the movies from the best actress nominees so I can't really comment. I hope we will get to see her at these events.

Chatteraddict, award shows can be confusing. Hehe. I would look at the time of the nominee list announcement for the ending period, I go back a year for starting point.
