Guest simplycomplex18
Posters look nice and quirky . So is the drama is still going to have the "page 1" label on it along with "coffee house"? just something odd i noticed. Why does KJW's book in the first poster says "Congenital Hea(rt) Diseases"? Any significance or completely random? If I didn't know any better, I'd think he was a doctor/science geek or something. I guess "page one" would still be used in the drama, if I am not mistaken it is the name of the coffee house If you didn't mention, I wouldn't notice the title of the book! And it really seems odd, considering that his character is a novelist, not a doctor or so... Thank you the girl who! and jinkzzmec for the lovely pictures! let us keep updating this thread! theninthtrack
^ I think it's probably fail on whoever gave him that book lol it doesn't have anything to do with him or his job... The show will start in just about a week I hope it won't disappoint us. Although I love the majority of the cast and they're the reason I tune in, I might just let it drop if it doesn't hold my attention. Hopefully that won't be the case

Still seems kind of odd. It's not the type of book most people would usually pick out randomly for leisure reading. You'd probably have to go specifically to the medical/science sections to find it . I'm just wondering if it might be that he's writing his book on a character with heart disease...or is he going to have a heart disease Or are they just using it as an allusion to "love (heart) problems"

He had a stack of books and on top of one of them was one about pregnancy and how to deal with it I remember having a good laugh about it haha Though it could be your reasoning of using it as an allusion. It just seems to come out of nowhere.. this drama sure is getting us confused with multiple things.

royalfreshness
i haven't been so excited for a drama since forever ... this actually seems really good, but i'm trying not to get my hopes up because all the dramas currently airing really didn't live up to the hype for me (maybe cinderella's sister). when i first saw the name i immediately thought coffee prince. i know they have nothing to do with each other, but one thing in common is that they both take place in a coffee shop. i'm expecting something like cp, in the light summer drama sort of thing, nothing too heavy. i can't wait for it to air

jinkzzmec
Coffee House production press conference May 10th, 2010 // by javabeans With one week till its premiere, the cast of SBS’s Coffee House gathered at the SBS company offices in Seoul for the production press conference on Monday afternoon. The drama’s four leads were on hand — Kang Ji-hwan, Park Shi-yeon, Ham Eun-jung, and Jung Woong-in — as well as director Pyo Min-soo of Full House and The World The Live In. Even without the actor draw, this drama is built on two motifs that are among my most favorite things — books and coffee — so I was already primed to watch it. Add in Kang Ji-hwan and some romantic comedy hijinks and I’m hoping for a fun ride. Kang Ji-hwan is a best-selling author who is fussy about his coffee, while Park Shi-yeon is his old friend, a publisher who runs a “book cafe.” The love triangle is rounded out by Eun-jung, who plays an assistant who makes the worst coffee in the world. (Ha! I like it already.) Kang’s relationship with Eun-jung seems to be the usual bickering kind, while his romance with Park develops as it goes between friendship and love. Kang Ji-hwan’s no stranger to the romantic comedy, and he’s shown that he’s got pretty solid comic timing, so I’m hoping for a lot from him. (His dramatic chops are, of course, just as strong if not stronger.) Park Shi-yeon is newer to the genre, having mostly been cast in thrillers like La Dolce Vita, Modern Boy, and Story of a Man. It’s strange how I didn’t like her for a long while when she first came on the scene (her weak debut in My Girl didn’t help), but now I’ve come around and am hoping that comedy suits her. She explained at the press conference that she’s long wanted to do a rom-com (My Girl doesn’t count, at least not for her as she had nothing romantic or comedic to do in it), and “This bright, strong role is different from my previous roles and I’m filming happily.” She described going to work by saying, “Going to the set feels like I’m going on a picnic” and “She’s different from my personality in that she’s cool, and even though she yells when she gets angry she doesn’t hold a grudge, so it’s fun to play her.” The drama will replace Oh My Lady and kicks off on Monday, May 17. (The PD has explained that despite the title similarity, which has some people calling this a “House” series, this drama has no story connection to Full House. Some have been wondering if PD Pyo can recapture the ratings success of Full House, but personally I think the days of the 40% miniseries are pretty much over. Oh, you’ll still get serial makjang dramas and epic sagas occasionally hitting 40%, but consider how much easier it was to score big ratings when the only option for watching a drama was to catch its live broadcast or rent it from the video store. It would take a mighty exception for a 16-episode miniseries to hit those huge numbers again, imo.) Kang Ji Hwan disclosed his feelings about starring in “Coffee House” at the production press conference held on the 10th at SBS headquarters. Kang Ji Hwan, who will make a comeback to drama for the first time in two years since “Hong Gil Dong”, stated “I wanted to perform in front of the camera. I’m very happy that my wish came true. I feel a sense of responsibility for every project I undertake. After finishing the movie, I felt an urgency to do a drama. While watching TV at home, I felt I wanted to do a drama.” Having starred in several romantic comedies already, Kang Ji Hwan explained in reference to this drama, “It goes back and forth between the boundary of comedy and drama, so it was fresh. Personally, I feel of all the characters I played, it’s the most unique and four-dimensional.” Kang Ji Hwan’s character is that of a writer who, having recorded a best seller at a young age, quickly rose to stardom, and has a unique personality of being kind in the presence of other people, but in actuality, he just pretends to be kind because he doesn’t want to get involved in personal relationships. presscon vids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wW3y9UUQYA They handed out 300 signed coffee mugs to the reporters at the press conference
ahoxan
Aritcle [PREVIEW] SBS TV series "Coffee House" http://10.asiae.co.kr/Articles/new_view.ht...051111425063457 Got this link from yeohweping Ham Eun-jung I don't remember seeing her before... though I probably have, as she has had many roles as a child actress. I fell in love w/ her just from the teasers & previews. I'm looking forward to seeing her in this drama. I read in this thread that she may not look as physically compatible w/ Kang Ji-hwan as Park Shi-yeon. I don't think that'll be a problem. Han Ji Min was over 3 inches shorter & looked fine w/ Kang Ji-hwan. And so what if Ham Eun-jung is over 10 years younger than Kang Ji-hwan... 22/33 is no big deal. Park Shi-yeon She's beautiful... but I don't think her acting is all that good... even though she's very popular. From the teasers & previews... her acting seems better than what I remember of her. "My Girl" was the only series she was in that I watched all the way through... and that because I fell in love w/ Lee Da Hae's character and Lee Da Hae's acting. Hopefully, I'll like Park Shi-yeon better after her "big change".
roweina78
Hi All..... Thanks for the news & pics. They still don't know what is the better title, so they put the 2 title on the poster. All poster are cute, especially the one on the cup. Still don't know who is the female lead, but Eun Jung have so many pics than PSY. I like how they make us confuse about that, hehehe.....It similar with Hotellier & On Air. In the mid of the story, we just know who will be ended with who. I will decide which shipper I will go when I already watch the 1st eps. About Eun Jung hair, it is her real hair, right? not a wig? Wow, just 1 week to go. Btw, CH will head to head with Dong Yi & My country calls. I don't know about the other rating, but I hope CH will get a good rating.
Guest aureliahicks
Translation of Cast Character from Official Website Lee Jinsoo (32years old/Author)/Kang Ji Hwan Succeeded author who writes several best-selling books in his early ages. Everybody likes him as he has good manner. Of course, he has good manner, kind, humorous. But, Just a few people know that he makes more smile if he feels bad, shows more courtesy if he doesn’t like some person, spends more money if he want to leave place more early. Actually, he is very hard to please, for example even a cup of coffee, there is no café to make him satisfied with. So, he studies himself how to make coffee, then, he only drinks his own coffee. Why this kind of difficult person keep contracts with just one publishing company? The reason is Eunyoung who is difficult to deal with just like him. When Eunyoung, who is workaholic and perfectionist, push him to finish the job early, though he shows temper, he still believes her ability. That’s why their relation can continue. By chance, he happens to enter some shabby coffee shop in suburb. The name of coffee shop ”Palace” also makes him uncomfortable. It’s amateur name. Surely, the coffee shop is far from professionalism including ballista. The ballista looks like jobless person at first sight. But, by some absurd reason, Jinsoo happen to hire her as a secretary. Frankly speaking, he doesn’t need secretary. At first time, he doesn’t expect anything from her. Only thing he expects is that she doesn’t bother him. But, this country girl want to be real secretary of him. Do you want to be real professional person? Then, I will make you. Kang Seungyun (25 years old. Daughter of coffee shop “Palace” /Candidate of test for 9th grade local governmental official)/ Han Eun Jung She say modestly “ I am a average Korean woman in twenties”. But, to say frankly, she is under average. There is no sign that her life turn to be bright. But, she still doesn’t know the real world. So, she doesn’t know there will be no sign of good news to her life. But she lives positively while dreaming that some day she can pass the governmental official test. She has spent life like that before Jinsoo appear in front of her at the coffee shop “Palace” which is falling down. The only person who can make “Espresso” in this shop, Seo Eunyoung, happen to feel attractiveness to Jinsoo’s kindness, then without deep thinking, directly become a Jinsoo’s secretary by friend’s recommendation. At the first time, she taught she can start her career as a right hand of famous author, but, Jinsoo has extra-ordinary personality which she never met before. “If you can’t, devote yourself to the last energy. That’s the way of professional” That is Jinsoo’s sophistry. But, anyway, why I must do this? Without any chance of protest, her life is already involved with Jinsoo. Get into the mud together with me, it’s not my fault. It’s you who hire me. She thinks she is academic girl, but actually, it is not. She acts first before thinking. She always regrets after accident happen. One good thing for her is that she catches the meaning of happening after she takes hard time. Seo Eunyoung (31 years old, President of publishing company/Owner of “Café Page One")/Park Si Yeon President of best publishing company in Korea. The publishing company which was established by her grandfather inherited to her after her father died. She enlarged the company size, and entered book-café business, then made it to nation-wide franchise. Indeed, she is now on the way of success. She is sexy also and frequently visits foreign country. She smiles herself while dreaming her picture is showed in Time magazine cover page as a most success woman in the world. She has a few things to hate-cat, exercise, ex-fiance and Jinsoo. Jinsoo is representative author of her company. Then, they work together. Both have same thinking, that is, only kind but incapable person is most hatred. So, even though they don’t like each other, they believe each other’s ability. But, Eunyoung always think this is unfair - both has bad personality, then why other person think Jinsoo is good man while Eunyoung is some kind of bad witch. Now, their uncertain relation-friends or enemy? – faces extra ordinary situation. The first thing, the ex-fiance of her whom she hates more than Jinsoo moved to next building to ‘Café Page One”. Then he talk non sense ‘ Let’s start our love affair again” The second thing, Jinsoo’s new secretary, something strange, her presence make Eunyoung uncomfortable. Now, Jinsoo’s boring humor sounds funny and his working style becomes curious to her. Han Jiwon (36 years old, Consulting company director / Ex-fiance of Eunyoung) / Jung Woong In. He think himself that , though bad fate disturbed their relation, his soul partner is Eunyoung. Fatal love between them must be finished as a happy ending. As a born rich person, good appearance, he feels the world move around him. The break-off with Eunyoung is actually that he showed interests in a friend of Eunyoung. But, he still think that Eunyoung is too jealousy and doesn’t understand male’s inner feeling. So, after break-off, he stayed Hongkong to earn time to smooth his wounded mind, then, he decided to forgive Eunyoung, then back to Seoul. As he is a management consultant, he sees everything as a efficiency and figures. That means, he is very realistic and conscious man. So, he doesn’t understand Jinsoo, the style of artist. He doubts Jinsoo maybe gay. He is sure Eunyoung still love him, so he usually approaches Eunyoung directly and he doesn’t know how she hate that style. He only thinks it’s why Eunyoung is too shy. His style to approach Eunyoung is like this : After he inspects “Café Page One’s financial status” secretly, then makes 10 page reports, then gives presentation to Eunyoung saying Café will bankrupt next year if her management style is not changed. Of course, Eunyoung hate this style. It’s very strange for him that Eunyoung doesn’t thank to him and accept. The more strange thing is that, why Eunyoung smile to Jinsoo while frown to him. Before, it was me whom Eunyoung love, and Jinsoo whom she most hated. Credit : All Korean Drama

Ham plays the role of Seung-yeon who is an amateur in life living with no set goals while preparing for the level 9 public official test and after she meets a perfectionist novelist Jin-soo (played by Kang Ji-hwan), decides to endure the pain in order to become a professional. Below are the excerpts from the press conference for the new drama "Coffee House" with Korean actors Kang Ji-hwan, Ham Eun-jung, Park Si-yeon and Jeong Wung-in. 10: Could you explain a bit about the characters you will be playing? Kang Ji-hwan (Kang): I will be playing the role of Jin-soo who is a novelist. He is the most unusual and sort of four-dimensional type of character I have ever played before. I've been putting a lot of effort to give my character more personality by meeting with the director a lot of times since the planning stages of the drama. Ham Jung-eun (Ham): I play the role of Kang Seung-yeon who was preparing for her test to become a level 9 public officer but becomes Jin-soo's secretary after becoming attracted to him. Seung-yeon's bouncy character is similar to my actual personality so I've been engaged in the shoots with the idea that I am defining her traits rather than being under the pressure to try and be funny. Park Si-yeon (Park): I play Seo Eun-young, the C.E.O of the publishing company. I am enjoying the shoot since I get to play a bright and cheerful character since before, I played a lot of tragic female lead roles. And I like coffee so going to the set is even more fun. Jeong Wung-in (Jeong): My character is Han Ji-won, a business consultant. He is a comical character who tries to win back Eun-young's love after realizing she is 'the one' since breaking off their engagement two years ago. Cast of SBS' "Coffee House" Kang Ji-hwan (left) and Park Si-yeon (right) [Chae Ki-won/10Asia] 10: Kang Ji-hwan, you are returning to the small screen for the first time since your role in "Hong Gil-dong, the Hero" two years ago. Is there any particular reason that you chose "Coffee House" for your comeback? Kang: I don't know if it's because writer Song Jae-jung was the scenarist for MBC sitcoms "High Kick" and "Secret of Keu Keu Island," but "Coffee House" is unlike any other romantic comedy drama. With "Coffee House" the audience will be able to laugh in each episode because new incidents will occur each time rather than the emotions from a previous episode connecting to the next as in typical miniseries. I think I chose this production because it was refreshing -- after watching the first two episodes I realized that it subtly crosses in between a drama and sitcom. 10: Park Si-yeon, you have come to be able to change your image after having mainly taken on serious or dark characters. Park: I am overcome with emotion because I have been dying to be in a romantic comedy. This is the first time I'm even bringing my own props for the shoot. Every time I go on set I feel like I'm going on a picnic because the atmosphere is so great. My character Eun-young is completely different from myself because she says whatever is on her mind. 10: So did you have any difficulties in portraying the role of Eun-young? Park: I feel ecstatic. Being who I am doesn't mean that I have never wanted to scream. (laugh) It's really fun because I've pieced together all those parts and use it to portray Eun-young. I am enjoying it because it's something that I have never done before. 10: Director Pyo Min-soo once said, "I try to incorporate actors' actual personalities and their props in my dramas." Kang Ji-hwan, what was this like for you and did you prepare anything in particular? Kang: I once saw Bill Gates riding a bicycle around his research compound on TV. I had always wanted to try it out in for a production so we changed the bicycle scene in the script to the segway that Bill Gates rides around in. I am trying to portray a completely different image of a novelist through reverse thinking because when one thinks of a writer, they usually think of them sitting at their desk. You can see it as the scenarist being the person who builds a house on a large prairie, and I and other actors as the ones who work on the interior design of the house. Cast of SBS' "Coffee House" Ham Eun-jung (left) and Jeong Wung-in (right) [Chae Ki-won/10Asia] 10: Jeong Wung-in, you must be feeling quite different working on this drama since you are playing a leading role and are surrounded by all these young actors. Jeong: I do, it being a production by Pyo Min-soo and the fact that it's a miniseries. Honestly, I feel that I have reached a status level with the stars. (laugh) I try to rid myself of the pressure I feel through acting. One of my strengths is that I am most composed at the moment I am nervous and I’m the sort of actor who knows to have more fun in front of the camera. If the drama goes well, I think producer Pyo Min-soo and I will form a great relationship. And I think I will keep calling him even if the ratings didn't come out that high. (laugh) I have never met such a great bunch of people like this before. 10: You play the role of Eun-young's fiancee. How did it feel to play a role opposite Park Si-yeon? I bet you probably felt proud too, maybe thinking 'I'm still doing alright.' Jeong: I would be lying if I denied having thought about it. I also thought, 'What would happen if I get cut because Park doesn't like me?' (laugh) I started out with the confidence that Park will benefit from the acting pointers that I can give her. I think we'll be able to show good chemistry in the drama. I try to go on set even on the days I don't have any scenes to shoot so I can help monitor Park's acting. 10: Ham Eun-jung, your character Seung-yeon sports a short hairstyle and has an easy-going personality. How are you trying to establish your character since she seems to be similar to Eun-chan from "The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince." Ham: I heard that a lot from the people around me. Hopefully those thoughts will disappear once the drama goes on air because my character's personality and the incidents she experiences are different even though both characters are boyish and wear boxed tee-shirts. 10: This is the first time you're playing an adult role as well as being the main star of a show even though you were a child actress. What was it like working with the senior actors? Ham: The chemistry between Kang and me...(laugh) Kang: She means it was good. When idols like something they usually just laugh. (laugh) Ham: It really is great. That laugh was unintentional -- I think it came out because I've been living like my character. 10: How high do you expect the ratings to be for the first episode? Kang: I just wish that before the drama goes off air, it'll break the record set by previous Monday and Tuesday night dramas at least once, even if it may not be a big success. thesunset
After seeing all photos, MV and previews, i can't wait anymore to see KJH again. I really miss him. Hope this time CH achieve high rating, at least KJH will be satisfied and become happy with the results. Before, i didn't like PSY acting but after Story of a man, i liked her. From these photos i can say that she and KJH have good chemistry. At least i want to see them toghether at the end, to be honest i don't see any chemistry between KJH and HEJ. I think HEJ is only a reason for PSY's character to aknowledge her love for Jinsoo (KJH's character) ( i hope so) . mw tv version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CH9C3lhB8c i like every second of this mv, Jinsoo (KJH's character) is so attractive.
