The Princess is appointed Prosecutor

March 12th, 2010 // by javabeans

Kim So-yeon, in character as Ma Hye-ri, is appointed prosecutor in these latest stills from her drama Prosecutor Princess, which were shot at a university in Sanggye-dong, Seoul. The scene will appear in the drama’s first episode.

Even with her ceremonial robe on, you can catch a glimpse of Hye-ri’s eye on fashion, since she’s more into looking good than necessarily being a good prosecutor. Kim So-yeon explained, “The atmosphere of the prosecutor appointment ceremony is solemn, but I deliberately wore a necklace and rings that stand out. It’s just in the drama, but after receiving the appointment certificate, it almost felt like I’d really become a prosecutor, like I’d turned into the real Ma Hye-ri.”

Prosecutor Princess is a romantic comedy that follows Ma Hye-ri’s development as she grows into her role and develops a sincere enthusiasm for her job. The drama also stars Park Shi-hoo, Han Jung-soo, Choi Song-hyun, Yoo Gun, and Park Jung-ah. It premieres on SBS on March 31.

Three Actresses Take Image Transformation Match

Three new Korean dramas will bring us to the transformation match of three great Korean actresses. Moon Geun Young (Cinderella’s Sister, KBS2), Son Ye Jin (Personal Prefence, MBC), and Kim So Yeon (Prosecutor Princess, SBS) will play a different character from the dramas before. They turn 180-degree change appearance of the image.

‘Cinderella’s Sister’ will show us a mature side of Moon Geun Young. She wants to show us that she is not a child actress anymore. Playing role of a step sister of Cinderella, she plays an antagonist character that never she has done before. We always see a cute and beautiful image of Moon Geun Youn in her previous drama, but I think it’s more interesting to watch her change-image in this drama.

Another actress who will show us a different character in her new drama is Son Ye Jin. She will co-work with popular actor Lee Min Ho in new MBC Korean drama ‘Personal Preference’. In her appearance before, ‘Spotlight’ (MBC, 2008) she played as a sophisticated person. But, if we see the pictures of ‘Personal Preference’ she seems to turn into a cute and naïve person. Well, I think this is one of the reasons why this drama is waited, besides the appearance of Lee Min Ho.

One more new Korean drama shown us the change-image of the actress is ‘Prosecutor Princess’ broadcasted SBS. Kim So Yeon as a main lead female will play as a talented girl who is more interested in being fashionable and dislikes hard work, so she is far from being an ideal prosecutor and has doubts about her suitability for her job. Of course, it will be So Yeon’s new image after her role in blockbuster drama ‘IRIS’ (KBS2. 2009) which is more serious character without much talked.

Well, they will definitely be the viewer’s attention in April. It’s great to see how they take a challenge to reform a new image.

Prosecutor Princess’s White Day date and club cameo

March 15th, 2010 // by javabeans

Here’s a new batch of photos from SBS’s Prosecutor Princess. The first couple shots were filmed on White Day — the March 14 counterpart to Valentine’s — and capture the two leads sharing some quality time together. Park Shi-hoo’s lawyer character In-woo, who is described as mysterious and smooth, has set up a luxurious spread in a hotel suite for a romantic date with his girlfriend. He has prepared wine and chocolates and bought expensive luxury shoes to offer as a gift, and (naturally!) attracts the notice of Ma Hye-ri (Kim So-yeon), who runs into him by chance.

The next set of stills include the young members of new idol group Children of Empire (or ZE:A), who have cameo appearances in the drama. Their segment will be featured in the April 1 episode as Hye-ri goes to a club to blow off some steam after a confrontation with the chief prosecutor, and shares a table with the boys. The scene was shot at a Kangnam club and had initially only cast two of the members (Moon Joon-young, Kim Dong-joon), but the other seven members of the nine-guy group also appeared without dialogue.

Prosecutor Princess began filming last week and will premiere on the 31st.

Prosecutor Princess holds open set day

March 17th, 2010 // by javabeans

pp_set2.jpg

On March 17, SBS’s Prosecutor Princess held an open set day at the Ilsan Production Center, inviting the press for a look behind the scenes at the filming location. Pictured above are the four main actors (from left to right): Park Shi-hoo, Choi Song-hyun, Kim So-yeon, and Han Jung-soo.

Prosecutor Princess has strong competition from rival dramas, and although Kim So-yeon has been acting longer than their lead actresses (Sohn Ye-jin of Personal Taste and Moon Geun-young in Cinderella’s Sister), she has had a more understated career in smaller projects and supporting roles. Therefore, she explained, she’s pleased just being compared with them now.

This role is a complete shift from her last, as she played the fierce North Korean spy Sun-hwa in last fall’s IRIS. Kim describes her Hye-ri character thusly: “She’s immature and simple, but she does mature through her profession as a prosecutor. There are certain aspects of her personality that are similar to my own in real life.” Playing someone more similar to her real personality is something Kim has always wanted, “and I feel like that’s happened with this drama.”

As the title character, Kim So-yeon said she feels a lot of responsibility, which has her anxious that she’ll catch a cold or fall ill and is therefore taking precautions to stay healthy. This is Kim’s first leading role in a drama in five years, since 2005’s Autumn Shower. (She’s only been in supporting roles in dramas like IRIS and Gourmet.)

This is also the first time we’ve seen secondary lead Choi Song-hyun, who landed this role after going through an audition process. Choi got her career start as a broadcast announcer and was in the drama Smile and the movie Girlfriends. (She frumps up her image quite a bit; she usually looks a lot younger and sexier.) She plays another prosecutor who is the complete opposite of Ma Hye-ri (meaning: serious and professional).

The drama premieres on March 31.
