Guest IM TOKKI
My computer has always been slow with bittorent but now even direct dls are so slow. Its about 11 kb/sec right now. Does anyone know if there's something i can configure to up the speeds?
Guest nevets1219
Look at the seeder to leecher ratio as well as average completion. Low seeders or leechers could contribute to lower speeds. If your completion is the same as the average completion, you'll notice drop in speed as well. Make sure your ports are forwarded and you are using ports recommended by the tracker that you frequent most. www.portforward.com Turn off software-based firewall (best if you are behind routers). SP2 comes with it's own firewall. I've heard Anti-virus also slowing down BT but you should research more about this before turning off your AV. Don't upload at 100% your max upload speed (but don't upload 0% either). 70% - 90% works well, mess around. Check the number of incoming/outgoing connections. Use the latest version of BT client (Azureus or uTorrent both works great, give the latter a try).
Guest jeffy
^ i think she meant Direct Download. run this http://speedtest.cogeco.net/ and then tell me what you get.
awdark
You said direct downloads are down to 11k/s that just can't be right. Have you powered everything down recently? Shall I assume you have DSL? If you do, power everyting down. Modem, router, computers. Then turn it all back on. I do that when my download speeds drop from 150k/s down to some miserable 50k/s. Otherwise, if you can confirm there isn't any excess network activity (like the modem lights blink like crazy when you aren't doing anything), and you ahve tried the speed test jeffy provided, call up your internet service providor and ask whats going on. They might have just bumped you to a lower speed profile "to increase stability". Or you might have exceeded the maximum download limit you get in a month. (I heard those exist like 30gb and they knock you down to like dialup speeds until the end of the month where they reset you and let you have speed again I know SBC dsl doesn't have it though.) awdark
Well, find out what your plan is supposed to provide and call verizon up and complain and have them help you. Not sure what else we can do about it.
Guest jeffy
wow that is SLOW omggg. umm yeah, try restarting ur modem/router (pulling power plug and putting it back in)and then if the problem persists... call verizon. Guest IM TOKKI
Its been slower since I moved (recently) but it wasn't too fast to begin with. I tried the restart modem thing too but doesn't work...T__T Do you think its a firewall problem??
Guest nevets1219
It could be your ISP. I'd recommend you use test your speed with one of the free online services. Make sure no downloads or P2P are going on. If it's confirmed that your download speed is still slow and it doesn't detect any bad configuration. I would call your ISP and tell them and they most likely would walk you through a series of steps to insure things are accurately setup. I did that with mine (Charter) and everything is peachy now. awdark
They did that 4 posts up, and it was slow. I really doubt it could be anything like a firewall problem. Most stuff would either kill your connetion or work. not slow it to turtle powerz.
Guest Tetra
Your download speed : 4526 kbps or 565.7 KB/sec. Well mine seems fast enough With the plan I'm on once you exceed the limit (60GB) you get a letter mailed to you and you're not allowed to download anymore. >_>
DaRkViEt73
that's some pretty sad speed. Are you using Windows XP? If so then DL this http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/files/2KTCP64K.REG by rightclicking on the link then save as. Double click the file then hit yes to add the info to your registry. Reboot then test out the speed and see if there's an improvement.
Guest IM TOKKI
^ i added it and got this: dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-07-02 22:38:36 EST: 412 / 134 Your download speed : 412 kbps or 51.5 KB/sec. That is 88% worse than an average user on verizon.net Your upload speed : 134 kbps or 16.7 KB/sec. That is 84% worse than an average user on verizon.net It's an improvement =) Is the normal around 500 kb/ sec T___T?
Guest IM TOKKI
I just called Verizon and the nice lady walked me thru some procedures to try to up my speed. So after unplugging alot and changing phone lines, my speed now is 737.7KBits 92.2KBytes, which she says is the best that it can be. This is a major enough difference for me =)) Thanks guys for the help!!! You guys are nice ^__^
DaRkViEt73
well that's good that it responds to speed tweaks. Triple your DL speeds isn't bad.... even if your DL speeds are still pretty pathetic... In that case... DL and run this. This will bump things up to maximum. I'm unsure if your connection will respond to this or not, but give it a try. You run the file which will unzip a bunch of stuff, then you run the setup.exe file...http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HWZ4600M EDIT: After I post this, I see what you wrote above. Well, so was it because of interference from dimmer switches / halogen light fixtures? Or something else?
