I just saw this at weibo. It amazes me how prominent his features look. He needs to act in a war movie when he comes back.

No war movie, please.  This type of movie is so repetitive in Korea and my least favorite genre.  We can get our soldier Kim fix over the next two years :).

I also don't really like war movies (except for a few like Letters to Iwo Jima and Saving Private Ryan) but I think with the right script and director, it can be very good seeing as KSH never done one before. I remember one of my very first Korean film was Taegugki and I cried a whole lot watching that movie. That's one of the better if not the best Korean War movie and it's been too long since I've seen a better one. That movie cemented Jang Dong Gun acting career. I believe KSH could explore a different type of acting challenge in something like that but then of course whatever he does after he comes out, I'll be rooting for. 2019.

Have you seen Real, min woo?  KSH is excellent in this.  I love how he only challenges himself and eager to see how he will top Jang Tae Young in his next role.

I would actually like him to take a lighter role next time, perhaps a comedy since he has good comedic timing.

Unfortunately no bc it's not showing in my country and I'm patiently waiting for a DVD (eng) to come out so I can show my support. I am aware that SK critics didnt like the movie. But I'm also aware that int'l critics have received it positively (as well as KSH performance). I'm currently following the Real movie thread bc I'm baffled as to why the critics in SK could hate it so much (some calling it the worst movie ever made and some saying this could end KSH acting career) while others int'l have moderate to great reviews.

Yes, he sure does :). I would just love to see him in anything.

The film has it's flaws but definitely not as bad as SK critics say it is.  True, the plot is too convoluted, the editing too messy, the final product too unconventionally appealing, but nevertheless a brave attempt at bringing something new to Korean cinema.  The worst mistake the production made was market it as an action thriller and thus, sets up different expectations.  The crime/gangster/casino theme is just the setting of the movie, the real theme is given away in the opening sequence with the quote "What a man can be, he must be", which is the basis of the entire movie.

[What a man can be, he must be. This need we may call self-actualization…It refers to the desire for self-fulfillment, namely, to the tendency for him to become actualized in what he is potentially. This tendency might be phrased as the desire to become more and more what one is, to become everything that one is capable of becoming. (Maslow, 1954, Motivation and Personality,  p. 93)]

You probably know KSH plays two roles in this and one imitates the other.  Real is a movie about the imitator's desire/obsession to become what is he potentially, which he believes is the real Jang Tae Young.

Ha!  If one failed project can end an actor's career then 99% of actors out there wouldn't be acting anymore.

If anything, Real is an eye opener to any director who may have doubted his skills before (mainly because of his relatively young age).

I marveled  at KSH for being brave enough to make this step which many dare not. When he had 5 successes, there were all praises to it. But when he does one that is not to viewer’s appetite, he was ridiculed. KSH is a person who is on solid foundation regarding his acting skills. For example Dream High, TMETS, MLFTS and Producers. Producers although was not as popular as TMETS and MLFTS  but to my opinion it’s KSH  character that stands out. All his dramas does not have repetition on characters. It’s hard to find people who is willing to take on challenge. No challenge means market will be very stagnant with no new ideas.

His name is KimSooHyun

Kinda cute to see him in military haircut (real short crew cut) and looking unshaven.

Still, he looks good and young, clad in his army uniform.

I have seen other celebrity soldiers that appeared in the recent armed forces festival spotting longer hairstyle though.
