Which 2020 K drama kiss was your favourite? VOTE

We're edging towards the end of 2020 and we'd like to know from our readers; which on-screen K-drama kiss from this year was your personal favourite? You can vote on the poll below.

For many, Korean dramas have been nothing short of a cocoon for the past few months where we have had to be confined to the four walls of our houses. Moreover, 2020 saw some really heartwarming dramas like Crash Landing on You and It's Okay to Not Be Okay which managed to etch a memorable mark in the hearts of the viewers. It was also the chemistry between the main leads which had fans going gaga over certain dramas.

How can we forget Lee Min-ho and Kim Go-eun in The King: Eternal Monarch? As Lee Gon (Min-ho) and Jung Tae-eul (Go-eun), the pair dabbled between a powerful kiss and a fairytale style kiss which left fans swooning over them wishing they'd be a real-life couple. Then there's Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji in It's Okay to Not Be Okay, who left viewers shy with their tantalising chemistry. Moon Gang-tae (Soo-hyun) and Ko Mun-yeong's (Ye-ji) heated kisses felt like their life depended on it and is there really another type of kiss we would like to watch in a Korean drama?!

Kim-Soo-Hyun-4.jpeg

2020 was a big year for Kim Soo Hyun as he made his return to the small screen through the role of Moon Kang Tae in tvN’s “It’s Okay to not be Okay.” This series was not only Kim Soo Hyun’s first project since being discharged from the military, but it was his first drama since starring in “The Producers” back in 2015. His highly anticipated return did not disappoint as his role was everything we could have asked for. He was charming and funny, and his ability to capture the hearts of viewers through his relationship with his autistic older brother was unforgettable.

KGC promotes red ginseng with Kim Soo-hyun, Lee Min-ho

Korea Ginseng Corporation (KGC) is promoting its red ginseng products in overseas markets with star actors Kim Soo-hyun and Lee Min-ho.

The company has selected the Korean actors as models for Cheong Kwan Jang's red ginseng product and red ginseng cosmetics line Donginbi.

KGC designated Kim, who has gained increasing popularity in China, as its Donginbi e-commerce spokesmodel for the Chinese market.

Kim is known for roles in the television dramas "Moon Embracing the Sun" and "My Love from the Star." The success of the dramas throughout Asia has established him as one of Korea's top stars internationally.

Donginbi has entered China's largest online shopping mall, T-mall. KGC said Donginbi's sales in the mall have grown significantly since Kim became its spokesmodel.

(skipped unrelated.....)

KGC said the hallyu stars are playing a key role in introducing red ginseng to foreign markets.

Red ginseng has been recognized by Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for its effects of boosting the immune system and fighting fatigue.

KGC said it is using young Korean stars, as the demographic of young consumers of red ginseng product consumers has grown.

Formerly, the products were mostly consumed by the elderly ― the main age group that is concerned about health.

But more young consumers can be seen both in Korea and overseas, according to KGC. The company attributed this to content marketing on YouTube and other forms of social media.

KGC also said it has become an effective strategy to have recognizable celebrities as its spokesmodels, given the growth of e-commerce around the world.

It said the spokesmodels can promote its products in overseas markets through e-commerce channels, even without having a strong walk-in store presence.

"Because overseas consumers learn about Korea through a diverse range of online content, there is a high level of awareness of Korean celebrities," a KGC official said.

"Based on interest in boosting the immune system amid the COVID-19 pandemic, red ginseng being promoted by celebrities in overseas markets is also seeing a positive response."

5 K-Dramas To Kick-Start Your Korean Language Journey

Who said learning a language couldn’t be fun?

Learning a new language is hard, especially if it’s one that’s significantly different than your native language. Even if you’re advanced in the language, it can be hard to get any practice in if you don’t live in Korea or a heavily Korean area.

Well, watching K-Dramas is a perfect tool for listening and learning! It immerses you in Korean culture and mannerisms while also being extremely entertaining. Here are 5 K-Dramas that are an easy way to kick-start your Korean language learning journey.

2. My Love From Another Star

syNaePYFvLV333tAwi6a7uf5saGAA1IT5plf2HjMZbtRHZIwP2T8I5sY21hH_bY9a4fxkC3gzQBS-qtypzcwW0ipGi13P6kOpvajsyI6kUqsDg=w32-fSoften=1,100,0-rp-e365

Do Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun) is an alien who arrived on Earth 400 years ago during the Joseon Dynasty period. He has enhanced physical abilities such as his vision, hearing, and speed. Later, he discovers that he has only three months left on Earth. That’s when he meets Cheon Song Yi (Jun Ji Hyun), the biggest Hallyu star in Korea and things get complicated.

|

While you should generally avoid sci-fi/fantasy genres when learning a language, this one is fairly human. Not to mention, it’s very interesting to see how Min Joon’s language transforms as he gets more comfortable with modern humans. He goes from a formal speech to more casual as time goes on, which is very useful to see the difference between the two tones. He also speaks quite deliberately and clearly, as he is sort of learning the language himself, making him easy to understand.

Kdrama Kisses 2020 Korean Drama Awards

2020-korean-drama-awards-2-komika-axis-s

Welcome to the Kdrama Kisses 2020 Korean Drama Awards! In addition to this, don’t miss out on the big list of my favorite dramas of the year in my Best Korean Dramas of 2020 post, but now we bring attention to some of my favorite performances and dramas in each genre. As always, there were lots of great ones to choose from, but let’s see what ultimately made my list of the best in 2020:

Best Melodrama:
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

It's Okay to Not Be Okay Korean Drama - Kim Soo Hyun, Seo Ye Ji, Oh Jung Se

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay is a masterpiece! It is like a dark, modern fairy tale with a magical quality to it in the way the story is told. The script was so incredibly well-written with every line of dialogue having meaning. A lot of thought also went into the production with so much attention to detail in constructing the sets as well as how the scenes were shot.

Powerhouse performances were given all around. All of these elements blended together beautifully to carry us away into this slightly disturbing yet very healing fairy tale.

Best Couple:
Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay)

It's Okay to Not Be Okay Korean Drama - Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji

Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji delivered powerhouse performances in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, and any time they were on screen together was completely captivating in so many different ways. Their chemistry was palpable. We experience a lot of joy and sadness with this couple, but it’s all worth it to watch these two hurting people face their demons and find comfort in each other. I was completely swept us in this amazing romance!

Best Bromance:
Kim Soo Hyun and Oh Jung Se
(It’s Okay to Not Be Okay
)

It's Okay to Not Be Okay Korean Drama - Kim Soo Hyun and Oh Sung Je

The bromance between brothers Gang Tae and Sang Tae in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay was a special one. They have a complex relationship that has been frozen in time. Growing as individuals and in the relationship becomes very important for them. I loved seeing how they cared for each other despite some severe challenges to the relationship.

And watching them grow closer, understand each other more, and finally progress into a healthier relationship was wonderful.

The 8 Best K-Drama Couples Of 2020

One detail that can make or break a K-drama is the lead couple. Sometimes, no matter how out-of-this-world a plot can be, the leading actors just don’t have that it factor together. Luckily, 2020 did not disappoint and offered several iconic couples. In no particular order, here are the K-drama couples that enchanted our hearts this year.

Kim Soo Hyun & Seo Ye Ji in “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”

Of course, it would be amiss not to mention the incredibly beautiful Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji on this list. Starring in the wildly popular drama “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay,” these two charmed viewers not only with their good looks but their insane chemistry. Kim Soo Hyun plays the closed-off Moon Kang Tae, a health worker who lives an unstable life while taking care of his autistic brother, and Seo Ye Ji plays the eccentric Go Moon Young, a children’s book author with an anti-social personality disorder. The pair fall in love as they overcome the trauma of their childhoods.

If there’s one word that comes to mind when you think of this couple, it’s healing. Despite the dark overtones of this story, it’s just as magical and enchanting as any fairytale. Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji’s chemistry melts hearts through all their scenes no matter if it’s one full of tears, beaming smiles, or steamy kisses. As an added plus, the pair also carves out the most precious family with Kang Tae’s older brother, Sang Tae (Oh Jung Se). Their story makes you laugh, weep, and smile, and you really feel like they did live happily ever after.

2020 drama review: what snared my interest…

20201223_214512.jpg?w=576

My 2020 drama review. I realised I did watch many dramas this year but few stood out for me. I guess quite a number were watchable and entertaining across the board; just not terribly outstanding. I’m not listing dramas that have yet to finish its run because I wouldn’t be able to fairly compare them with those I have watched in completion. My ultimate fave drama for the year is definitely Find Me In Your Memory. Kim Dong Wook and Moon Ga Young were just fantastic together.

Ranked according to preference:

Best Drama
1) Find Me In Your Memory (MBC)
2) Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2 (SBS)
3) It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (tvN)
4) Hyena (SBS)

Best Supporting Cast
1) It’s Okay To Not Be Okay / Strangers 2
2) Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2
3) Find Me In Your Memory

Best OTP Chemistry
1) Kim Dong Wook + Moon Ga Young (Find Me In Your Memory)
2) Kim Soo Hyun + Seo Ye Ji (It’s Okay To Not Be Okay)

*** I'm done watching his latest drama finally...................I wasn't able to watch this series continuously during its airing since I lacked time. "It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” is not your typical K-Drama. The writer successfully portrays the sensitive subject of mental illness while gracefully contrasting it against fantasy fairytales, romantic comedy and even murder mystery. The writer deciphers it from one of her script writings like: “If you want to have fun, then have fun.” The impressive acting of Kim Soo Hyun greatly complements the richness of the drama’s narrative. Did you notice that Sang Tae is almost always seen wearing stripes here as people diagnosed with autism are drawn into familiar repeating patterns. Even the uniform of OK Hospital’s employees are intently kept at soft colors to send the message that it is a happy space where everyone can be healed. This drama is indeed a creative masterpiece from the narrative, to the script, acting, and up to the littlest of the details in its set design. The message of the drama resonates deeply: we heal and grow through other’s warmth. The drama closed with a warm and happy ending. In an interview the writer reveals that the series is actually inspired by her own love story when she fell for a man with a mental disorder. “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” is a gem. Truly, a must-watch for everyone!

Most distressing scene
