Kim Soo-hyun and Seo Ye-ji's "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" is currently a hit abroad.

Studio Dragon's "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" is being aired on tvN at the moment and it's being streamed on Netflix in over 190 countries all over the world including; Southeast and Northeast Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan, as well as South American continents such as Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Nigeria, Australia and the African continent.

On MDB, which evaluates contents from around the world, "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" has scored 9.2 out of 10 points. The figure is higher than

"Crash Landing on You" (8.8) and "The King: Eternal Monarch" (8.4).

Viewers all over the world praise the work, delivering responses such as "I'm fascinated by addictive stories and beautiful productions", "It's different from the K-drama I've seen so far", and "You shouldn't think of it as a classic romance drama, obviously a drama with a different depth".

Foreign media are paying attention to the worldwide popularity of Korean dramas, ranging from the popularity of "Crash Landing on You" to the popularity of "It's Okay to Not Be Okay". Time magazine in the U.S. recommended 10 K-dramas while covering the popularity of Korean dramas, while leading global media outlets continue to analyze the reasons for the popularity of K-drama and introduce works that are about to be launched. In addition, the U.S. Forbes released articles for new K-drama entrants and enthusiasts, introducing old works that were released several years ago.

Netflix, which is in charge of streaming "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" said, "Viewers from various languages and cultures enjoy "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" through Netflix, showing interest and love for Korean content. We expect "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" to be continuously loved by entertainment fans in many countries looking for diverse and high-quality Korean content".

Regarding the phenomenon of K-drama becoming popular around the world, a Studio Dragon official said, "We thank global viewers for their love for "Goblin", "Mr. Sunshine", "Crash Landing on You" and now "It's Okay to Not Be Okay"". He added, "Thanks to the global streaming service, we feel the K-drama consumer base is gradually expanding, and it seems to be a kind of chain effect, not a flash of popularity".

tvN's Saturday-Sunday drama "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" is a fantasy fairy tale-like romantic comedy drama in which Moon Kang-tae (Kim Soo-hyun), a caregiver of a mental ward who refuses to love due to the heavy weight of life and Go Moon-young (Seo Ye-ji), a fairy tale writer who doesn't know love due to a natural defect, take care of each other's wounds. It airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9PM.

[HanCinema's News] "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" Attracts a Sizable International Fanbase

photo1211915.jpg

While domestic South Korean have lamented the apparent drop in drama popularity since the conclusion of "The World of the Married" internationally South Korean dramas are still maintaining a high profile. Much of this is thanks to the success of "It's Okay to Not Be Okay". The return project of Kim Soo-hyun has underwhelmed in domestic terrestrial ratings but has struck a major chord on Netflix, where it has charted in quite a few far flung countries.

In Asia "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" has done well in the usual markets of Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore. It also has a strong following in South America, with Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru all demonstrating interest in the drama. Even Nigeria and Australia have proved demonstrations of the drama's worldwide popularity. "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" also enjoys high ratings on viewer aggregate ranking sites, beating out "The King: Eternal Monarch" and even "Crash Landing on You".

Some of the stated reasons for this popularity include the drama's deliberate emphasis on mental health issues. The titular psychopath played by Seo Ye-ji is a psychopath in the medical sense rather than the pejorative sense. The older brother of Kim Soo-hyun's character, played by Oh Jung-se, has autism. And the mental health facility where Kim Soo-hyun's character works is filled with various mental patients with relatively realistically drawn disabilities.

Such a deliberate focus narrows the drama's appeal somewhat, as many viewers have found the characters to be offputting. But "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" has offset the limits of this appeal in the domestic market by broadcasting the fairly unique concept worldwide, allowing the drama to find fans in many unusual places. This has made the drama a noteworthy success of Studio Dragon's current internationally focused strategy in spite of the drama's weak showing in traditional metrics.

The New Mental Health Awareness Campaign Slogan from Australian Gov is "It's Okay To Not Be Okay."

This is also could be one of the reason this drama are well received here in Australia as Netflix is the biggest subscription TV here.
