Unique Female Lead

Who would have thought an adorably rude heroine can be this engrossing? Seo Ye Ji as Go Moon Young is a refreshing break from meek and optimistic female leads. Nonetheless, she appeals more genuine and natural with her unfazed attitude.

She might lack empathy but her definition of kindness and willingness to fight malicious people speaks about her candor. She’ll definitely grow on you as she begins to heal and shed her protective shield.

Shedding Light on Mental Health

The early story sketches of It’s Okay To Not Be Okay already hinted on its healing mood. So far, the introduced characters present hint on repressed emotions and traumas from their past memories. Recently awarded Baeksang Best Supporting Actor, Oh Jung Se, suits up to his endearing character Moon Sang Tae.

He is set to present more of his medical condition as he gives a picture of misguided preconceptions about autism. His 4D world coaxes emotionally battered people to yearn for a taste of his innocent and bright world.

An Unlikely Yet Extraordinary Romance

Role reversal in Korean romance drama is always a sweet treat for viewers. The female lead doing the chasing is an adorable bonus! On-screen chemistry appears visibly between sassy Go Moon Young and tamed Moon Sang Tae.

Actor Reunions

With such a star-studded cast, it’s no surprise that some of the actors have previously worked together. Check out some of the reunions below:

Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Chang Wan portrayed best friends in My Love From Another Star.

Park Gyu Young and Kang Ki Doong were a cute couple in Romance Is a Bonus Book.

Seo Ye Ji and Kim Chang Wan both acted in Hwarang as well. Also, Kim Mee Kyung and Oh Jung Se portrayed siblings in Plus Nine Boys. You’ll have to tune in to see what their characters’ relationships will be like on It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.

Cast Synergy

Identifying the main and supporting characters of the series has also been easy owing to the actors’ commitment to own their roles. Oh Jung Se is an endearing humor mill as Kang Ki Doong, Kim Joo Hun and Park Jin Joo are expected to run scene-stealing moments for their impeccable comedic timing.

Over at Kang Tae’s camp, the people surrounding him are pictured to understand his situation well. In contrast, Moon Young’s supporting team, albeit the money and prestige, are depicted to be living a hard life cleaning up the mess caused by the unbridled writer.

Anticipate more shining moments from the lovable cast in the next chapters of the series.

Bromance

While romance is expected to bloom in the series, brotherhood love has so far put a smile on viewers’ faces. Almost giving his life to care for his autistic brother, Kang Tae warms hearts with his selfless love to understand his hyung‘s condition. His faint smile whenever he gets no response from his brother of who he loves more between him and his favorite writer Moon Young, just makes us root for him even more.

Notably, the friendship between him and Jo Jae Soo (Kang Ki Doong) is also a delightful watch. Also devoting his life to help Gang Tae care for his brothers is truly admirable. His depicted bickering bromance with Sang Tae also adds delightful punch in the story.

Murder Mystery

Moon Gang Tae and Sang Tae’s mother was mysteriously murdered 18 years ago. Sang-tae witnessed the murder, but remains highly traumatized. When asked about the identity of the murderer, he is only able to say a “butterfly” killed his mother.

Since the murderer warned Sang-tae not to reveal their identity and threatened his life, Sang-tae remains very scared. Thus, the brothers live a nomadic life, to run away from the killer. But, they are now back to their home town. Time to solve a murder mystery!

Upbeat Storytelling With Humor

Impressively reeling an addicting hook amidst themes tackling mental health and cryptic murder, It’s Okay To Not Be Okay engages with its upbeat mood. That is partly credited to the actors apparent synergy.

The healing mood that will be drawn from the characters definitely fascinates, and would make the viewers ask for more.

The psychiatric hospital in “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” piqued viewers curiosity

As an avid fan of Korean dramas, besides the cast and the plot itself, we really appreciate the setting and the establishments used in a certain drama.  Others became remarkable and had a place in our hearts because that place was something.

Even if we saw it at a glance, we can easily remember that particular place and suddenly reminisce about the drama that came to mind first. Made with unique exterior and interior designs and surroundings, it really made the viewers have a good impression throughout and would make them fall in love in that place even more.

Currently, the new tvN drama It’s Okay To Not Be Okay is making a buzz through some social media sites (eg. Facebook, Twitter), and is the talk of the down after airing its first two episodes. The drama was flooded with praises for its unique storytelling about mental patients and one’s own dark secrets, its top-notch cinematography that was captivating, the creative use of animations and transitions, and of course, the overflowing chemistry of the whole cast. The first two episodes really gave a good impression to the viewers and made them anticipate more of it these upcoming weeks.

Except for the things mentioned above, another thing that made the viewers talked a lot about it was the familiar setting of the hospital used in the drama known as “OK Psychiatric Hospital” which is giving a vibe of “Doldam Hospital” of the famous medical drama Doctor Romantic.

The scenes where the hospital was seen left the viewers in shock and can’t stop themselves to say that it has a huge resemblance to “Doldam Hospital”.

Even though there’s no confirmation yet that the set was the same, the interior design of the psychiatric hospital caught the attention of the viewers and mostly, the Doctor Romantic fans out there!

Truly, the resemblance is uncanny and it gives a nostalgic feeling of “Doldam Hospital”.

The only thing that was true is that we really missed “Doldam Hospital” so much and thanks to this drama, we will see this remarkable place more often these upcoming weeks and enjoy the place as a “rebranded” psychiatric hospital.

Kim Soo Hyun Reveals He Felt Goosebumps While Working With Seo Ye Ji in New Drama

kim-soo-hyun-reveals-he-felt-goosebumps-

Before the release of the ongoing tvN drama "It's Okay To Not Be Okay," a press conference for the series was held in South Korea, wherein the cast members Kim Soo Hyun, Seo Ye Ji, Oh Jung Se, and Park Kyu Young were present. The drama's director Park Shin Woo was also there.

"It's Okay To Not Be Okay" is based on Moon Kang Tae, who works at a psychiatric ward and Go Moon Young, an introvert with an antisocial personality disorder. She is also a famous writer of children's books.

Moon Kang Tae (Kim Soo Hyun), in a psychiatric ward, jots down the patients' conditions to be able to face and deal with some unexpected events. For example, if the patients fight or if they run away from the ward. He only earns about KRW 1.8 million (USD 1,600) a month.

On the other hand, Go Moon Young (Seo Ye Ji) well-known children's book writer with an extremely selfish, arrogant, and rude personality. Eventually, they meet and change each other's lives.

All the fans are looking forward to the sizzling chemistry between these two leads of the drama. All those released trailers and teasers are all so promising to give us a rebellious, spooky love story that instantly intrigued viewers.

During the press conference, Kim Soo Hyun was asked about his experience working with Seo Ye Ji. He responded, saying that normally, they feel very comfortable working with each other. But when she's acting in front of the camera, it's like the character of Go Moon Young comes out instantly, and he gets goosebumps because of it. He was greatly motivated by her acting since she receives energy from her in that way.

Seo Ye Ji agreed to Kim Soo Hyun's statement, adding that they are very comfortable working together, but when Kim Soo Hyun starts acting in front of the camera, he incredibly gets focused on his character. And it has made her think that he is "the actor Kim Soo Hyun,'' and he's a great help to her.

"It's Okay to Not Be Okay" takes over tvN's Saturday and Sunday 21:00 time slot, which was formerly occupied by "When My Love Blooms" and will be followed by "Stranger Season 2" in August.

The first script reading for tvN drama series "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" was held sometime during the first quarter of 2020.

The drama premiered on June 20, 2020. Watch the teaser for Episode 3 below!
