WARNING: *Major* spoilers ahead for Episodes 7 and 8 of It's Okay To Not Be Okay! Don't read if you haven't seen the latest episodes yet.

Ah, the momentum just keeps on rolling for each episode of It's Okay To Not Be Okay! Now that we're eight episodes in the drama, I've come to notice that more entertaining scenes have been injected in the plot. And although they still keep the depth of the story, it's just been a good break from all the heavy drama from the earlier episodes. So I guess the ~lightness~ of the scenes is also infectious to the actors themselves 'cause we have super adorable Kim Soo Hyun behind-the-scenes content from these eps! Here we go:

Moon Gang Tae (Soo Hyun) and Ko Mun Yeong's (Seo Ye Ji) ~date scene~ in Episode 7 was quite thrilling for us shippers, but these clips showed just how likot Soo Hyun was while practicing the phone grabbing choreo with Ye Ji! LOL!

The café scene with Mun Yeong's fan (played by Choi Daniel) was a standout in the ep, but behind-the-scenes, Soo Hyun just couldn't stop playing with the phone. Huhu, too cute.

When Mun Yeong ~presented~ her new hair to Gang Tae, it made us all gush with kilig. But IRL, Soo Hyun and Ye Ji couldn't stop laughing at each other! I mean, what's new between these two?

And in Episode 8, we finally saw Gang Tae break free from suppressing his emotions in a confrontation with a violent hospital visitor. Off-cam, though, Soo Hyun was totes adorable when he tried out his punching moves and was even cuter when he nailed the scene! YES!!!

“It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” Costume Director Spills The Meaning Behind Each Character's Outfits

it-s-okay-to-not-be-okay-costume-directo

"It's Okay To Not Be Okay" brings quite a wholesome story about two people who gradually heal each other from their emotional wounds.

The story revolves around Moon Kang Tae (Kim Soo Hyun), as a health worker at a psychiatric hospital. He meets the famous children's book author Go Moon Young (Seo Ye Ji), who has an anti-personality disorder.

Together with the amazing storyline are several outfits worn by the characters in the drama that viewers can't take their eyes away from. The details and the colors make the series a lot more alive and interesting.

According to the Costume Director, Jo Sang Gyeong, each outfit worn by the characters shares a story. She definitely pulled off the costume designs! She said that, with the vibrant and detailed costumes, she intended to create "default looks" for each of the characters to show their personalities and tendencies in the story.

For Kim Soo Hyun's character, Moon Kang Tae, Jo Sang Gyeong created costumes with the concept of devotion. Moon Kang Tae's character has an older brother, Moon Sang Tae (Oh Jung Se), who has ASD.

Starting at a very young age, he was trained by his mother to take care of Moon Sang Tae, which led Moon Kang Tae to believe that taking care of his brother is his only purpose in the world. His plain and simple clothes imply how he doesn't have a lot of time spared to take care of himself. Costume director Jo Sang Gyeong even said that she intentionally washed his clothes multiple times to create a worn-out and slightly weathered texture.

Concepts Behind Wardrobe of Healing Romance Drama “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”

Many viewers will notice that Moon Sang Tae's character wears a lot of striped shirts. This is due to a researched-based fact about people that are on the spectrum.

Research tells that people with ASD often use repeated patterns in their work. Moon Sang Tae wearing stripes conveys his diagnosis.

The costume director adds that as Go Moon Young and Moon Kang Tae develop and grow as the drama goes on, their styles will change as well. Go Moon Young will start to wear more comfortable clothes, while Moon Kang Tae will wear more clothes with color.

[READ] Realizations from The Cheerful Dog and Beauty and the Beast (by Maria Charisma Gatillosa)

Time indeed flies fast! We're halfway through already, but before we proceed to the second half of the show, let's talk about some realizations from the latest episodes (7 & 8), shall we?

1. There are things we need to let go off and burdens we need to free ourselves from. We may have had experienced too much in our lives that have caused us to forget how it is to be really happy, but it is good to know that someone out there just might be able to understand and help us find that happiness again.

2. People, even your family, may doubt you; but at the end of the day it will be your decision to be different from what people may think of you.

3. There is someone whom you can count on despite the mess. Just like when Gang-tae said to Mun-yeong, "Everything is so messed up. You said before you'll run away with me whenever I want. I want to go on a trip with you. Right now." Even when everything is messed up, there is that one unexpected person in your life who will be there and will be ready to run away with you.

The bomb (Mun-yeong) and the safety pin (Gang-Tae) decided to go hand in hand. But will their plans lead to something good or blast (hurt) more people instead?

Tune in for the development of the story for the next 4 Saturdays and Sundays

How Kim Soo-hyun, K-drama star of It's Okay to Not Be Okay, started a chicken and beer craze in China – meet the CF king

The breakout star of era-defining hit dramas Dream High, Moon Embracing the Sun and My Love from the Star, a new mature Kim Soo-hyun has emerged post-military service, setting hearts aflutter first in Crash Landing on You and now in psychological romcom It's Okay to Not Be Okay

A Baeksang best actor-winner before 30 and a certified ace in advertising, or what’s known as a CF (or commercial film) king, what else is there do know about Kim Soo-hyun? Read on to find out how he’s achieved success early in his career and what fans can look forward to in his post-military service drama, It's Okay to Not Be Okay . There’s definitely more than meets Kim’s puppy eyes.

In 2011, newcomer Kim joined the star-studded cast of K-pop idols in teenage musical drama, Dream High. Kim’s role as a country bumpkin who gives up his dreams of owning a farm to pursue his first love caught the hearts of viewers and gained him a steady fan base.

In 2012, Kim took on the lead role in period drama Moon Embracing the Sun, which won him his first-ever major acting award. Despite having debuted only five years ago, then 24-year-old Kim was named 2012’s TV actor of the year at the Baeksang Arts Awards, besting industry veterans.

In 2014, Kim made waves yet again in fantasy romcom My Love From the Stars, starring opposite top actress Jun Ji-hyun. The show was a trendsetter, sparking global fads from fashion to food, such as the “chimaek” or chicken and beer craze. According to Korea.net, fans of the drama waited in line outside chicken and beer restaurants in Shanghai and Beijing for up to three hours for their chance to emulate the show’s lovebirds.

Local media Dong-A Ilbo also reported that in that year, Kim gained more than 3.7 million followers on Weibo, making him the definitive Korean star of the 2000s in China. “CF king” Kim also broke his own record of appearing in 15 commercials at the same time. Allkpop reported that in 2014 alone, following his My Love From the Stars fame, Kim was offered a whopping 35 advertising proposals.

After completing his military service in 2019, Kim slowly eased back into the small screen, making surprise cameos in the dramas Hotel del Luna and Crash Landing on You . His comeback drama, tvN and Netflix’s It’s OK to Not Be OK, finally premiered last June.

A romance drama on healing, Kim plays Moon Gang-tae, a carer in a psychiatric hospital. He stars opposite Seo Ye-ji as Ko Moon-young, an antisocial children’s book author who grows obsessed with Gang-tae. “I can’t stop wanting you,” she tells him boldly, “because you’re so pretty.” Fans can definitely relate.

Six episodes into the drama, viewers of the show await the romantic road Gang-tae and Moon-young will traverse to find emotional and mental healing through each other. “The character Moon Gang-tae has been hurt a lot, and I wanted to resonate with people by conveying his pain,” Kim is quoted saying to Soompi. “I’m going to do a good job of explaining his healing process.”

*** I'm glad that "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" hit a major milestone in world exposure when it ranked in the top ten of the Netflix world rankings. On July 13, the drama was the highest ranking Asian drama in the world rankings for that day, although other dramas from Germany, Australia, Colombia, and Turkey also appeared on the list. "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" had consistently held the number one spot in the individual rankings for Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam for the previous week. In South Korea and the Philippines it had either the number one spot or the number two spots over that same time frame. The drama internationally via online streaming is noteworthy,

Mysteries Waiting To Be Solved In The 2nd Half Of “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”

tvN’s “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” is gearing up for the second half of the drama!

The drama tells the story of Moon Kang Tae (Kim Soo Hyun), a community health worker at a psychiatric ward who doesn’t have time for love, and Go Moon Young (Seo Ye Ji), a successful children’s book author who suffers from antisocial personality disorder and has never known love. After meeting one another, the two slowly begin to heal each other’s emotional wounds.

Below are three points viewers should keep an eye out for as the drama enters its second half.

Spoiler

Spoiler

Moon Kang Tae and Moon Sang Tae’s butterfly trauma

From the first episode, viewers have been curious about the butterfly that has been threatening Moon Kang Tae and Moon Sang Tae (Oh Jung Se). After witnessing his mother’s death, Moon Sang Tae has had nightmares of being chased by butterflies, causing the brothers to move frequently every time the “butterflies” start to approach them again. Currently, the brothers have moved back to Sungjin city where the butterfly trauma originated. Viewers are curious to find out if the brothers will be able to finally escape from their long-time trauma.

The basement of Go Moon Young’s castle

Another mystery viewers are curious about is the forbidden basement within Go Moon Young’s castle. In episode 6, Go Moon Young mysteriously said, “My mom is dead,” and, “The blood stains are still there on the floor.” Afterwards, she had a dream of the basement, which revealed mysterious stains on the floor. Go Moon Young also suffered from a night terror during which she saw someone who she referred to as her mom, leaving the mysteries of the basement and her missing mother unsolved.

The mysterious song “Clementine”

The “Clementine” song incident that shook up the psychiatric ward provided new evidence about Go Moon Young’s family. Go Moon Young’s father Go Dae Hwan (Lee Eol) suffered from a sudden seizure after he heard someone humming “Clementine” late at night. During a past counseling session, he revealed that his wife used to sing “Clementine” to her daughter. He asked, “Do you think that woman sang it knowing the true meaning behind the song?” After hearing “Clementine,” he said, “She definitely died, but that woman is here.” With the song actually being about a father’s grief over the loss of his daughter, viewers are even more curious to discover what importance the song has to Go Moon Young’s past.

The production team shared, “If until now we’ve shown that Moon Kang Tae, Go Moon Young, and Moon Sang Tae are characters who are lacking and wounded, a surprising twist will unfold starting from the second half that reveals the truth behind their traumas. Please watch on with interest in the relationship between the three people who are intertwined by fate.”

The next episode of “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” will air on July 18 at 9 p.m. KST.
