In the Kansai area, it's not a prefecture, there are 7 prefectures: Nara, Wakayama, Mie, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, and Shiga. Four cities (the prefecture is the same as the name of the city, otherwise noted) include Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe (Hyogo Prefecture), and Nara. They speak Kansai-ben, a dialect of standard Japanese. Foods from the area include takoyaki, gyoza, kaiseki-ryori, chagayu, and kakinohazushi. The 1970 World Exposition was held in Osaka. Thus, there is an EXPO Kinenkoen (Remembrance Park). Shopping in the Namba district of Osaka is also famous. Going to Kyoto is probably the most well known. Kyoto is full of many cultural temples, shrines, etc. as it used to be the capital. However, now, it is the cultural city of Japan. It was spared from the bombing during WWII due to its cultural significance.
